Remember them? Anyway, somebody is posting under the Sega Nerds twitter. Seems to be hinting that the site is coming back? Kartel was a real shit deal... Nerds was dead to me at that point. Interested to see where this leads, but I don't know. Can they come back after being dead for 3+ years? Thoughts?

Sega Nerds was the best Sega related site ever. I would have never done so many things without them. Got to meet with the people from Sega of America in NY back in 2009 thanks to the site news and all. I'll would be happy to see the site rise from its grave for good ol sakes man!

I think Graham sold out SEGA Nerds to the Kartel, right? After a while he wasn't even posting on there.

The twitter information is in the hands of Chris and Graham, Chris owns SEGA Nerds domain. So, it is probably one of them.

So what exactly happened with SEGA Nerds? Did you guys sell it out and it went to pot (sorry for my British sayings, it means "went to shit").
I have heard of SEGA Nerds a few years ago with that Tweedbury Murdoch fellow (I don't know if that name is correct), and some deal but nothing else.
Would be happy to read what happened to that site to make SEGAbits exist.

George would better explain it, I might not have all the details correct, but from what I remember basically Chris and Graham (SEGA Nerds owners) partnered with this site called The Kartel. The Kartel was meant to be a general gaming and pop culture blog with a points system where you could earn prizes and stuff. SEGA Nerds would exist on their network and integrate the Kartel system. Pretty soon, however, the system drove away visitors and hurt the overall look and feel of the site. Content quality took a nose dive, the forums started to dry up. So Ryan and George, who were SEGA Nerds writers, went and created SEGAbits. SEGAbits had elements that we liked from SEGA Nerds, and new elements that Ryan and George wanted to implement but couldn't under SEGA Nerds (both pre-Kartel, and especially post-Kartel).
So now, three years later, Chris and Graham are looking to bring the SEGA Nerds site back. It's gonna be interesting, and I'm looking forward to seeing what they do, because as is SEGAbits has always been SEGA Nerds 2.0 to me. In fact, I got into SEGA Nerds late in the game and loved the site (pre-Kartel) and wanted to be a writer. But by the time I had a portfolio of sites that I worked on, Nerds was dead and bits was the awesome new site. So Ryan reached out to me and I joined the site as a writer... now an admin.
What is most interesting is that SEGAbits also has something big planned...

Interesting, thanks for the explanation, even if you don't know much of the details as being new to SEGAnerds.
That also sounds exciting! Is it a new interface, or an announcement for something?

Its going to be strange because the essence of what was created with Sega nerds is practically in Sega bits now. It was something that developed and evolved in time and could have been cut short due to the kartel move if it wasn't for this place although there was clearly a gap between the kartel takeover and the creation of this place. While i wish them well i don't think they will be able to re create what happened naturally in their new site.

I joined SegaNerds about a month after it started running. As an example of my writing I submitted a joke article about alternative uses for all those extra Sonic 1 copies everyone seems to have, door stop, paper weight, ash try etc. (I have 5 copies I believe lol.)
Then a while later they were looking for new writers and I knew George from the Sega.com forums and convinced Chris to higher him. There were other writers added and left as time went on but I didn't really know any of them...
Then I slammed something Sega did, I don't remember what now but Chris wanted me to apologize so as not to hurt our relationship with Sega since they were sending us free review copies of games. I'm stubborn so instead of apologizing I quit and joined SegaShiro for a while until George quit Segabits.
Then George and I talked for ages about starting a new Sega blog I remember tossing around name ideas for ages until we settled on 'Segabits'. George registered it and the rest his history.

Barry's either talking about about the new 'reply button' design we've been working on or the secret console Sega is working. Both are going to be a pretty big reveals in April.

I would have used Chocolate/Candy with the SEGA name due to how much everyone loves sweets!
I could be really evil and just call it SEGA Yorkie (Yorkie's in the UK are advertised as "Man" chocolate).
