And it's NOT for iOS, infact it's for the Playstation 3 and Playstation Vita.

What could it mean?!

HD Port of Jack Lumber.

HD Port of Jack Lumber.
And here I thought this thread would be troll-proof from you and me about the dark dark realisation of more iOS related games, that dream shattered in one post :(
-
Guessing it's Miku....
Unless it's Valkyria Chronicles? Nah.....even if it was it would be Japan only.
The closest I can think of with that sand/magic tears is Shining Tears HD...but would they be that crazy to release yet another Shining game? (a port at that?)
It will be very disappointing if it's something that:
Doesn't come out in the west.
A new IP that doesn't look appealing.
An old IP where they changed the concept completely.
Looking forward to this regardless.

Dog poop on grass with magic sparkles?
-
It says a lot that no one is expecting anything from this. And then it might turn out to be a big deal. Figures.
-
New RPG I think...new Valkyria?
Or...a ridicioulus thought, you know the new Captain Harlock Animation from Sammysega Animations? A game for it, by Sega?

The mystery continues!
-
Its creating... something. A sphere?
-
I saw people earlier today saying its forming a soccer ball, and i didn't want to believe what they were saying, cause a teaser for a soccer game would suck, but i guess SEGA owns a soccer franchise in Japan that is really popular.
surely you guys remember this angry man:
being that there is grass, and there is a soccer ball forming on it.. it would make sense, as unexciting as that will be if true.
Oh well, time will tell in a few days.
-
AAWWW YEAH VIRTUA STRIKER PLZPLZPLZPZL
-
It doesn't look like a soccer ball today; it looks like a stone sphere with cracks in it.
-
Looks like an upside down mushroom. Maybe it's another Shiren the Wanderer game~?

surely you guys remember this angry man:
Pfffft, he has nothing on this man;

RETURN OF THE TRUE SEGA SUPERSTAR, ARSENE FUCKING WENGER MOTHAHUGGER!

AAWWW YEAH VIRTUA STRIKER PLZPLZPLZPZL
They would need to port Virtua Striker 4 on consoles first
-
'Super Guus Hiddink Adventures' or GTFO
-
but lets be honest
-the date is actually a fnt of shenmue
-normally when a game comes out ull see sega above.
*only this time it is like there will be a game on ps3 psvita and sega, like it is also on a sega console
-for the same it could be a major hoax
-the grass in the background shouldnt be linked to football its anything but that. all sega has is football manager and thats it.
all the above is something to think abouut. but even then all those points above could be wrong as well
-
So, explicitly stating it's on PS3 and PSVita is a sign that it's being released on a new Sega console that hasn't been announced yet?
Sounds legit. Shenmue 3 ladies and gentlemen. Available on PS3, PSVita and Sega Renegade.
-

One of SEGA Japan's biggest console and arcade series is a football game...

One of SEGA Japan's biggest console and arcade series is a football game...
ok for that if thats the case.
i wouldnt want it to be that so called football arcade tho. come on ye know. such a massive commercial around this 28 march thing? and it turns out to be an arcade freaking football game. i just hope that isnt the case.

I'm beginning to think you're just an extremely dedicated troll, Semmie. Well done.

I'm beginning to think you're just an extremely dedicated troll, Semmie. Well done.
i have nothing to prove to u. just keep playing on that arcade hall and make sure you put your jelly pot glasses on cause otherwise u wont see anything.

Let's Make A Football Team? Yes!
I hope it gets a European release. One of the PS2 games got one, but since I never had a PS2 I was just dying to play it!

I've noted that several SEGA fan sites (SEGA Driven, some site called "Sega Nerds") have started tweeting the news, and all have this attitude of "welp, move along folks, nothing to see here! it's just a shitty football sim! Why can't it be Shenmue 3?"
I have to be honest, I'm tired of this attitude. Every SEGA title isn't going to be the next Shenmue or NiGHTS or JSR. Sure, in the late 90's/early 00's SEGA released far more titles than they do now, but even then there were weird games revealed that had very little impact on the US. Like Aki noted, we had horse racing sims since 2000. There were tons of arcade games that never made it west. Same goes for console titles.
Is there anything wrong with hoping that every teased title will be the next Phantasy Star or Shenmue or JSR? No! But com the fuck on people. It's not like SEGA West was pointing to this http://sega.jp/20130328/ site saying "check it out! new game coming!". With the internet being what it is nowadays, it is much easier to access stuff that would typically have no bearing on our part of the world. I see it all the time now. SEGA Japan has a live stream to talk about arcade titles we'll never see, and Hatsune Miku stuff, and Sonic fans bombard the stream thinking "holy shit! next Sonic title!".
Eh, I'm just ranting now. Basically SEGA has ALWAYS had goings-ons that don't interest or affect western english speaking fans. It's just now, with the internet connecting us to content all over the world, that we have easier access to stuff like live streams and teaser sites and I feel like we're projecting our wishes on stuff that isn't even targeted at us. Imagine all the events that happened in Japan back in the early 2000's that we missed out on that revealed stuff we would deem as "uninteresting and shitty".

i agree with that. it has been going on like this for to long. this illogical thing that succesfull games are neglected and the unknown and non succesfull games to come out in our part of the world. its 2 2days from here godwilling hopefully it will be what we longed for. but we should be ware of the obstacle. that it will come out in japan doesnt mean it will come out here s well. even if it is cool game
just think of yakuza 1 nd 2 hd

Right, I think if people are disappointed it's their own fault. I'm sure this game will make other people happy, and we can just keep looking for news meant for us. It would be nice if SEGA West would tease some things for us to talk about though.

Replacement work for the Mario and Sonic Team I guess.....
-
SEGA couldn't have timed this better with the lawsuit against Level 5....
Sometimes I wonder if SEGA are initially trolling Level 5 suing them over Inazuma Eleven to promote their own game in Japan.
Not to sound harsh or anything, but considering the trend with Shining Force Youtube bans and the court case...it surely can't be a coincidence.
I wouldn't mind looking at this game, but football games don't interest me (I even bought into the hype that was Inazuma Eleven, but I never played it).
-
Agree with the sentiments Barry, though as a fan of the genre, my regret personally is that we will probably never get to see it here.
The series has been one of SEGA Japan's staple releases since it released in the mid 90s so not entirely surprised, series use to be quite big during the Playstation 2 days (Regularly sold over 500,000 units) but slowly dwindle down to a 100k - 200k seller last gen. Interesting enough this is the first time it's return on consoles since 2007 so I suppose the teaser might have had been put up to make that point.
Anyone interested in finding out more on the series http://www.sakatsuku.com/

Wonder if they are working on another Mario & Sonic title. Though at this point and time, I can see Nintendo rushing to publishers like Capcom and Square rather than SEGA.

Barry made a really good point. That post could be developed into a full editorial piece about the problem of gamer expectations in this hobby.
-
I might just do that when I find the time. Or make it a podcast topic. I'd like to rant with George and others cutting in to share their thoughts.
-
I dunno guys. There was a cryptic looking image and fancy looking teaser website. I think people are justified in being disappointed that it's only a soccer game.
I think the truth is that most people are secretly rooting for Sega and are hoping they make a come back one of these years. Instead of getting mad at how people have unreasonable expectations (Shenmue 3 at this point is pretty far fetched. But a new entry in the jet set radio series wouldn't be that crazy would it?) just recognize how high the demand is right now for Sega to get off their asses and start making real games again.
Also with regards to the "Sega has always made horse racing sims and obscure sports games!" comment, times are much different now than they were in the 2000s. I don't think anyone would care what SoJ was making on the side as long as there was a steady stream of quality titles in the forefront. As it is, games like this seems to be all we've got.
-
The truth is there are a lot of unreasonable, if not outright impossible expectations placed on Sega by their various fans. Sega has always made a wide variety of IPs and all of them have fanbases to some degree. Some of them large, some of them small but no less dedicated. It's just impossible for them to continue all of these series, and to continue them in ways that are both fresh and unchanged. Sega makes new experiences, then moves on. Face it, many if not most of the beloved franchises from yesteryear are not coming back. If you want a company that endlessly repeats themselves, then conservative and boring Nintendo is the company for you. Sega is one bad bitch who will never be tamed. In summation, it's time to get hyped up for Magical Stone Soccer Ball 2013!! (Not that it will ever be released outside of Japan)

Im pretty sure people would be fine with new IPs if they were quality titles. And Sega is definitely a company that cashes in on franchises and repeats itself when it can. Yakuza 5 and Virtual Fighter 5 Final Showdown are great examples of how you are way off base in your characterization.
How is it unreasonable to hope for a new Jet Set Radio game? Or a new Panzer Dragoon?
-
Yakuza and Virtua Fighter make money, though. Of course they're gonna continue those series. The Shining series is a different kind of example -- they changed it drastically, it became sustainable (in Japan at least), but they alienated a lot of the original fans in the process.
As for JSR and Panzer Dragoon... two of my favorite game series. In fact, if it came down to it, I'd be willing to say that JSR and JSRF are my two favorite games of all time. I'd love for them to continue those but if those team members had gotten solely focused on that series, maybe there would have never been a Yakuza series... also one of my favorites. How unreasonable is it? I mean... it's a great dream, that's all I can say about it. If they thought it was reasonable and realistic and profitable I'm sure we'd be seeing a Sega logo on Crimson Dragon.
Another issue that's causing people to feel like there are fewer new games is that development times have increased to a huge degree. You're not going to see Sega cranking out 30 games in a year like in the Master System and MD/Genesis days. (Although personally I think it would be cool if they diversified their production to include smaller types of retro-style games too.) There's just going to be a few bigger games.
I can understand your point of view... I just think that some Sega fans are excessively focused on the past, and ultimately are gonna be impossible to satisfy.
-
Great points, Centrale.
I wanted to add my own thoughts, I'd love another Panzer Dragoon or JSR, however I know SEGA well enough to not expect it any time soon (or ever). Not because I'm negative over why I'll probably never see sequels to those franchises, but because it just doesn't fit SEGA's m.o. Sure they have certain legacy franchises, but unlike Nintendo they don't use games like that as much. I mean, off the top of my head I can think of Sonic, Virtua Fighter and Phantasy Star as IPs that span console generations and have numerous titles up to today.
But, of course, then there are other IPs that are very strong for a brief period of time, and then fizzle out either due to devs leaving the company, or SEGA simply exhausting the franchise or moving onto something new. Alex Kidd, for example, was strong for a five year window. Panzer Dragoon was a four year window, and then we had a resurgence by way of Panzer Dragoon Orta.
So SEGA has surprised us once in a while with a long awaited sequel, but it is far from a common occurrence, and as such it isn't a strong expectation I have for the company. I'll still request my favorite IPs if SEGA asks, but I'm not going to expect another Shenmue or JSR every time they tease a new title.
PSO2 was this generations Panzer Dragoon Orta for me. I had never expected another title as big as what was revealed, and it was an awesome surprise. I'd say the return of Classic Sonic is another big comeback this gen.

So you're pleasantly surprised anytime sega decides to continue one of their franchises? If you don't mind my asking, what DO you expect from them? Given that you look down on people that want more out of them than the yearly soccer sim.
-
I dunno guys. There was a cryptic looking image and fancy looking teaser website. I think people are justified in being disappointed that it's only a soccer game.
They have teased iOS games, WiiWare games, Puyo games and many other titles with this very method. Not just SEGA but almost the entire industry. Gamers should probably start to lower their expectations rather than expect any particular reveal to be of any importance unless it's at a major event.
Especially as this was a teaser site for the Japanese market, it was never intended for us.
-

Oh come on man, I don't look down on people. Cut that shit out.

Then what exactly are you preparing to rant about editorial style? You guys are all sounding a little crazy right now, accusing people who are effectively your own reader base and fellow sega aficionados for being impossibly unreasonable and unrealistic for wanting a new jet set radio, a new shenmue, or whatever other dearly held franchise. Is the alternative to sit in the dark and be extremely grateful for any title that happens to come our way?

That's what I've been doing and it seems to be working pretty well. Every time anything comes from Sega I expect it to be an iOS game that makes Angry Birds look like Deus Ex.

LOL hahaahhahahaha
but i think sega should put prestation up high
u cant just say to lower expectations when u have titles such as shenmue yakuea vanquish resonance of faith viking battle of asgard. bad ass sonic. totalwar
if u know a company a company of ours can make bad ass games. then it makes u wanna get drunk and jump of the themes or vridge when u see games such as
hell yeah
lumber jack
spellwood
anarchy reigns
aliens
which worries me i still remember when we waited for anarchy like the mofos that we are. and then when it came out it was allright but it ws sad that even golden axe beast rider who came so early was better.
i can laugh but what ye said right now mademan. i truly do. but it is sad that it had come that far lol.
if its a soccer game i will go to sega japan and slap them with my twig.

Radrappy, those were my phrases, and I don't work for this site, I'm just a regular. So don't feel like what I'm saying is an official stance of Segabits. My opinion is worth just about the same as anyone else's. (Except for ROJM and TA, theirs are worth their weight in gold.)
But I do think it's a wise attitude to be grateful... we have no control over what Sega does, and very little influence when all is said and done. I have a lot of dreams and ideals for what I think they should do, but at the end of the day I am enjoying their games past and present and have an open attitude to their future being different from my ideas of it... but do enjoy discussing others' ideas too. But even if they did the games that are your ideals, what about the fans of their hundreds of other IPs? That's what I mean by it being impossible for them to satisfy us all. I would also like to see more Crazy Taxi, Shinobi, etc., and even more obscurities from way, way back. But they are continuing to move forward, which is perhaps for the best.
-

I'm not saying I don't like anything from Sega. Total War, Virtua Fighter and Yakuza will always get me excited for a new entry for example. I just mean when it's a vague announcement or a teaser I never expect anything good anymore.
If something like a new Vanquish or Bayonetta ever does come from Sega that would be great, but I'm just as likely (or more likely) to see something like that pop up from another Publisher anyway.
-
i think its kinda obvious what game it will be unfortunate. unless we are being teased into the wrong direction.
http://sega.jp/20130328/
u see grass and a sand pouring down.. grass and a ball? footfuckingballcracks
but lemme hope that that ball is an egg.(not an alien egg pls) some kinda egg and then ryu hazuki pops out and says.
hey hello im ryo did ye know?
theres gonna be shenmue ye ho
and not shenmue 3 but some spin off ryo hazuki succesful in having chicks like kratos
and killing zombies and after killing he licks their blood to get the immortality of the zombies yet at the same time stay human.
playing the game like an immortal ryo hazuki so you cant die. but its still difficult cause its a point n click game called;
shenmue
Ryo hazuki escapes the dawn
BACK TO SERIOUS

I already know that, I just thought it was ironic that they decided to announce this when they are in a court case with Level 5. Bad timing, I think.

The Woman looks like someone I have seen before.

No, it's the motto people should use to deal with almost all teaser sites. Capcom and Square have been guilty of this too.

Keep in mind this is a yearly series so it was bound to happen sooner than later.
And that's Eileen after having her head bashed in by El Blaze. I know, Mang's a monster ;___;
-
The only platform dead is nintendo. We going through tough times. All companies struggling from Square to EA. Both CEO's resigned. Nintendo getting lots and lots of crap as well
SEGA is doing good when looking at big bicture. I be patient and wait for good anouncement, and SEGA back like they whore in old days

As Aki said, it's El-Blaze and Eileen from Virtua Fighter. Presumably after El-Blaze performed a suplex or similar.

We won't, we've only ever got one. Which is pretty sad, the presentation and random events make it a quirky alternative to Football Manager and I would so be interested in trying it out, seems to be a significant jump from the prior titles :(

going by past evidence, you can expect the unexpected.
