Title: Project X zone demo out NOW in europe
Post by: CrazyT on May 24, 2013, 05:58:43 am
Let's hope US can try it out soon too

Edit:
Quote
Update: North America will not be getting the demo this week. A Namco Bandai USA representative confirmed to Siliconera: “We will not be releasing the demo here this week. Once I have a solid date for the North American release, I’ll be happy to share that with you.”

I've just tried it out so here are my impressions:

Quote
At first I was like wtf is happening. It takes a little time to get into. It's basically an SRPG similar to shining force or fire emblem, but once you attack you have the freedom to choose your combos untill some sort of bar drains out(i'm actually not so sure what causes a stop, but at least i know there's a limit). You only move one character per turn but one character stands for a team of 2 charachters. So let's say I move ichiro on the field, Sakura will be part of his team within the attack scenes.

Story wise the whole demo is voiced. With teams of Ryu&Ken, Ichiro&Sakura, Gemini&Erica, Kurt&Riela, Soma&Alisa and Kite&Blackrose. Really don't know who some of them are. The story seems to be your typical japanese soap drama weirdness so far. Kind of threw me off a little bit but it's actually not that bad.

Overall I really really liked what i've played of it so far. My god those battles are some of the most epic 2d battles i've seen ever. You're able to do some sort of special move(the ones with the cutscene like animations) once a bar fills and there have been some great jawdropping moments.

I am sold on this game. Not only becase it is a great game, but it seems it's not being sold at full price in the e shop. Instead of 40 euro it's only 35.

Anyone else from europe tried it out?

I need to try this game out!

In a SRPG mood lately, so this may help give me even more options!

I just finished the demo now. I gotta say It's very different from the typical SRPG. It puts a lot more emphasis on spectacle rather than strategy. But yeah you can't determine someting like that from a short demo.

There's just so much stuff on screen and things you can do within the attacks. When you attack someone with an ally close to you, you can get them to help you by pressing R, and you can also get another locked character support(which is ulala for sakura and ichiro) by pressing L. The screen gets filled with so much chaos that you don't even know what's happening lol. So what I do is just look at the healthbars and I hope the enemy dies

There seems to be news about a new demo soon

http://www.siliconera.com/2013/05/23/project-x-zone-gets-a-second-demo-in-europe-next-month/

Pretty good move to draw attention to the game. Really nice

Damn....I was hoping for some strategy involved in the game rather then the "YEEEEEEHAW" scenario of attack, attack, attack!

Btw, haven't heard from you in awhile. Been busy?

Yeah I don't know if you've tried out the game already. But it didn't require me to know the ins and outs to beat it. But I enjoyed it.

Lol i've been pretty active here. Not busy or anything, just not at "home"

Tried it, thought it was an awful "press A to spam attacks" way of making a "Strategy RPG", not even the characters would make me return to this game again.

Sorry to say it, but I didn't like it.

That's SRPG for ya.
Guess I'll have a go at it when the game comes out. I think the best part of the game is the characters and their unique abilities from their respected franchises. Not to mention their conversations with each other.

Nah, while I disagree, I can perfectly understand that. The game is more about fanservice than being a serious challenge. I can see how they wanted to keep the fanservice accesable hence making the game not too hard.

I do hope that it does become a little less mindless eventually. There's gonna be another demo next month

There are more mission objectives during the game and later it'll get harder. I've also heard that the game gets repeatitive at times but some SRPG games are like that. Project X Zone still excites me in so many levels.

Post by: CrazyT on May 28, 2013, 08:59:19 am
^Yeah true. I think the repetitiveness of the genre is why challenge is so important. Nameless isnt the only one i've seen with that sentiment. While i'm fine with that, i'd like to see some more required effort eventually. Maybe this wasn't the perfect demo for "fans of the genre". So crossing my fingers the next demo will be a little more demanding

The fanservice is definitly great however. The little touches are great. With every character you move, a different theme song plays. When you defeat an enemy it says KO!!, like in street fighter. That part excites me a lot as well :P

I might have some good news. I'm having a sort of fan launch party for the game next month with games that are represented in Project X Zone and my local GameStop may help me with it by giving the copy of the game as prizes.

What games are you planning to have played if this goes through?

What games are you planning to have played if this goes through?
Most of the games that are covered in Project X Zone. It's going to take place at AppleBees and I have a couple of friends that will help me with it. There will be 3 stations covering Namco, Capcom, and SEGA games plus another TV for anime adaptations of the games. I'll be covering the SEGA station of course since I have almost all the games that are in Project X Zone.

Ok, so I've watched the demo on YouTube to list more SEGA references in the game. (I've watched a lot of the playthroughs of the Japanese versions as well) and here's the catch from the demo. A lot of Sakura Wars references ahead.

- Morolians from the first Space Channel 5 are one of the enemy units.

- Koumas and Pawns, the ancient demons and the armored steam robot birds from the first and third Sakura Wars game are also enemy units.

- Ryu (Originally Pai Chan I think), mentions that the location is Ginza, one of the cities that are a part of the Imperial Capital from Sakura Wars.

- Riela shouts reinforcements to intercept the enemy. A reference to Valkyria Chronicles strategy gameplay?
- Not so fast, Sakura's famous quote to the enemy before battle along with "The Imperial Assault Force is here!" aka Teikoku Kagekidan! Sanjou! shouted by Oogami Ichiro and the group after entering in battle.

- Gemini mentions Shinjiro Taiga, Oogami's nephew and the main character of the fifth game.

- Ogami and Sakura are shocked to see Ayame Fujieda aka Kouma Aya-me alive after she died in the first Sakura Wars game twice (One time by Aoi Satan and as the Angel Micheal).

- Many of Sakura and Ogami's attacks are a mix from the first two Sakura Wars games. I like how they added Maria's gun into the mix and the straws from Sakura's minigame that she cuts in Sakura Wars 2.

- Gemini tells Ulala Texas greetings can be a little rough (A reference to Sakura Wars V Episode 0?)

- Gemini and Erica's attacks from their games. Gemini uses her attacks from V: Episode 0 as her horse Larry did while Erica is clumsy as usual and uses her Good Morning dance from Sakura Wars 3.

- Ulala and the characters of the AGES shows up to help them take down the enemy (Harrier, Opa Opa, Scooter).

- Ulala says she's feeling...... funky! Get your groove on sister! Up down left right chu chu chu.

- Gemini shouts Victory Pose, the thing that the Sakura Wars characters say after a end of a battle, with Ulala saying stay tuned, another quote she says after clearing a report in Space Channel 5.

- Looks like Mexican Flyer has been replaced with another tune from SC5. License issues perhaps?

I kinda wish Sega had the balls to do a team up game like this be it a fighter or RPG.
Title: Re: Project X zone demo out NOW in europe
Post by: Nameless 24 on May 31, 2013, 06:25:48 am
That's SRPG for ya.

I don't get this statement. SRPGs are supposed to be challenging and engaging without overwhelming the player early on.

Fanservice with random button presses to do damage isn't really a SRPG really, more like a Chess game where "Press A + direction to win", and hope you win.

I don't mind the idea, but I don't want to buy a game that has no substance and lots of style.

On that I agree.

The thing is, its not that i think they can't do it or even scared to do it but that they wont do it because this type of game is "beneath" them. I see every conceivable team up from sega japan in the last two years except they aren't actual games. Its either a costume Sega character template nonsense in titles such as BORDERBREAK and PSportable or that card sega all star pack that they did with SAMURAI AND DRAGONS. We see how succesful sumo digital has done it with Sonic which they wont release in japan for some reason. its frustrating because Sega was up there when these type of games started to appear on the market with capcom's Streetfighter alpha and Marvel series, with there own version FIGHTERS MEGAMIX and possibly the first RPG team up crossover CLIMAX LANDERS/TIMESTALKERS which was basically a LANDSTALKER/SHINING cross over game with the addition of lady stalker.

Now that you mention that, I think it would be amazing if SEGA rereleased shining force 3 on the 3DS. Perfect platform for that game. SEGA should really consider if it's possible...
Title: Re: Project X zone demo out NOW in europe

Sega can't or wont rerelease ShF3 because of rights issues with Camelot, they both co own the game, Camelot somehow owns the Premium edition. Anyway that's the way its been till now. So who knows.
Title: Re: Project X zone demo out NOW in europe
Post by: CrazyT on June 01, 2013, 01:44:56 pm
Yeah I figured.. Would be cool if nintendo/camelot and SEGA agreed upon it. Camelot is a big loss, but its nice to see that theyre still a great dev team apart from the mario golf games.
Title: Re: Project X zone demo out NOW in europe
Post by: Nameless 24 on June 01, 2013, 06:25:33 pm
SEGA perferring the newer games (Tony Taka's Artwork) over Camelot's iteration of the franchise is another reason.

But Camelot could troll SEGA by putting some Shining Force references into the next Golden Sun game, lol.

This demo comes out tomorrow on the US eshop right? Looking forward to trying it. I suck at grid strategy games, so this might be right up my alley if it's too easy for people who are good at strategy games, ha.

played earlier today, my feelings on the demo are mixed, leaning towards don't like. I'll give it another try, but it all seems like random button bashing, so in a way it is a fighting game. lol

Just played the Imperial Demo and I have to say that I like it. It's more like a press A+Directional pad at the right time to deal more damage and if you summon your solo unit, the enemy will stay in place which is a "Cross Attack". I can't wait to play more of it for the character interactions, got a little excited with Ryu and Gemini Sunrise.

I think the problem is that it is actually deep in some aspects, but the game doesn't challenge you since button mashing does the trick..... although I really dont know whats the difference between regular presses and d-pad + presses. Other than that, I get all the other things. Like if enemies werent so easy, and the special/support attacks werent as spammable, I think it could have been better.

Not gonna lie  though. As much as i'm critisizing it. I can see myself enjoying myself through the whole game.

Same here, I need a lengthy game to play for more than 4 hours. I think the missions get a lot tougher as you progress. I remember in one playthrough, you had to stop one of the little demons from opening a door in the Ghost N' Goblians level.

But yeah, I can't wait to buy the game and reach the Gain Ground and The House of the Dead level. Also to finally understand the hell what Bruno Dilenger is saying.

Played a bit of the demo this morning, and while I enjoyed it well enough, I think I need a real tutorial for the combat. Not just a few pages of text and being tossed into the game.

Does the full game have a tutorial or is there a tutorial video online?

Looks like there's going to be some changes for the Western release. Bruno is in his Dynamite Cop/Dynamite Deka 2 attire which in this game is a recolor of his original attire from Die Hard Arcade/ Dynamite Deka. Probably due to the license with Fox with their Die Hard movie franchise.

Also Ulala's theme has changed.

I was expecting Super Robot Wars Taisen: Endless Frontier combat..  I kept trying to do those types of juggles and it wasn't getting me anywhere.  Awesome to see some Sakura Wars love in the Demo.  Still upset they never brought over the sequal to Endless Frontier though...

Been practicing lately with some of the characters. Both the Sakura Taisen teams and God Eater are the strongest. VC3 group are also pretty good for mid attack range and are able to reach the enemies on the grid with good amount of range.

I'm still addicted to it.

For those that pre-ordered from Amazon and were concerned that the game wouldn't ship from them as they have since removed the ability to order it. I reached out to customer service and they said the following:

Quote
I'm seeing that the item will still be shipped to you and will arrive on June 25. The item isn't listed on our website right now because we aren't taking any additional preorders.

So seems Amazon are only fulfilling pre-orders. They are not stocking it anymore, however.

Got my copy, but haven't played the game yet.

The "Soundtrack is only half filled with tracks from the game and the first half filled with tracks from other Namco/Capcom/Sega games. 90% of which is all Capcom. Seriously you get a Namco vs. Capcom track. Dot.Hack track, one Virtua Fighter track and I believe the other ten tracks are all from Capcom games despite the fact that Namco is the publisher.

Mini poster is mini. About the size of a magazine cover.

Mini Artbook shows off all the characters featured in the game and just mkaes me more angry that we are still not getting Valkyeria Chronicles 3 in the west.

Mine arrived, but I'm at work. Hope some punks don't steal it!

I want to say thats a shame about the soundtrack... but I've have so much SEGA music that I'd appreciate stuff from the other companies.

Played a little bit today and after hearing Akira wanting to meet Ryu for sometime makes me think inb4Segavs.Capcom. Seriously needs to happen.

I'm also quite disappointed with the Limited Edition. Only one Sega tune?! ONE!!! When there's tons of awesome tunes like Geki! Teikoku Kagekidan!, High Rise to Hell, and Tragedy. Namco Bandai made me sad face.

Played 45 mins of the game so far. I'm enjoying it! A solid "B" quality title. Or "8/10". Fun to see all these characters interacting. Even if I am not familiar with all the characters, it's cool to discover various franchises and in turn it makes me want to seek out their games. I like the combat system. Never been a fan of turn based RPGs, much more of a SRPG fan, so I like moving about the map and attacking in real time. Also, really like that I don't have to sit through moments when the enemy is attacking me.

If you enjoyed this game and like the fighting mechanics, you need to search out the other Western release that Namco Bandai did called Super Robot Tiesen: Endless Frontier.  It was for the DS and released a few years ago now.  The two Xenosaga android characters are in that game as well, and as are the "original" characters you come across in Project X Zone, the fox girl, her teammate, Haken, and Kagame.  There's also some referrences to Capcom x Namco in the game, but explains where some of the "original" characters came from.  There's also alot of boob jokes in the game...

I'm going to edit the topic title just for spoilers.

I've reached the second part of the Gain Ground to rescue Imca from VC3. So far I'm having fun doing criticals on the enemies and by far Bahn is the funniest character in the entire game. He so gangsta with that bancho attitude he could even be a challenge for Kazuma Kiryu.

Also Pai asked him how old he was when he fought Akira. *Fighters Megamix reference*

I'll be uploading the PXZ Launch Party pictures on here soon.

Finally got around school -_- but here's a picture of the launch party I had two months ago. I have more on the way. I've beaten PXZ as well and loved every bit of it with it's throwbacks from so many game franchises.
