At first I thought the movement was off. But I realize that's just a silly habit I have of not liking change. So then after I kept watching, I realized that the movement is better. It's less floaty. The level design seems more interesting than the original with occasional 3d movement. The visuals look excellent. Looks better than the original so far for me.
Thoughts?

Looks very cool. I love these behind the scenes videos. Really a great way to spread the word of SEGA history. Given all the classic game footage, I wonder if the game will contain the original?
-
Looks pretty good, I don't really like that they're seemingly using stock sound effects though.
-
Between this and Ducktales, it's a great year for modernized classics.

To be honest i don't like the look of this game, i much perfer the original and how it had that overall magical disney look and the classic version of mickey. it made the game timeless. now it looks like many of the other imitator disney games, many by Disney Interactive themselves which try to capture but fail to make a disney game of the caliber and standard Sega themselves set.
Even the Mastersystem/GG Disney Sega games look better than this.
-
Tbh I always thought the master system version not only controlled and played better overall, it also looked and sounded better, which is funny with the less powerful hardware. But I feel there was a better team behind that version.
The genesis version was never "that" apealing to me. I think they did quite well in capturing "its essence" as the woman described. But the level design looks superior without a doubt.

Looks really nice to me. I started to notice little contextual touches to Mickey's animation that are really impressive, like in the section where he's ducking under large objects rolling over him. You can see him kind of cautiously looking around while he's ducking, and it seems very in-character. I don't think it detracts anything from the originals to say that this looks fantastic. And the developers said all the right things in paying respects to the originals as well. Looks like a great game, and to think we knew nothing of it until relatively recently.
-
dude, haven't you learnt yet? They always say the right things in these type of videos. Remember the GOLDEN AXE BEAST RIDER developer vids? They said all the right things too and we both know that game fell way short of tapping into what GA should have been.

Note that nobody is really commenting on what the developers are saying. We're all talking about what the gameplay looks like. Most of the video is just the developers of the original going "this thing we did back then was impressive for the time" anyway.

Well that applies to just about every game ever. :V

Well it could be poo or it could be gold, we wont know until its released. So far i'm not impressed with the title.

Listen, folks, I apologize for not being a hand-wringing whiner or a bloviating pessimist. Unlike most of you Sega "fans" I'm actually enjoying what I'm seeing and experiencing. Good luck trying to control something you have no connection to other than as observers who think they know it all!
From what I can see, it looks well-executed and the artwork and animation are clearly done with care for the source material. Admittedly, these types of 'behind-the-scenes' clips are promotional, but they can offer insight into the developers' intentions, so that's what I was commenting on. If I feel like commenting on that aspect, I'm going to do just that, so you can keep your suggestions about what you think I should comment on to yourself. That's not the only topic I brought up, anyhow.

Don't be silly, some of the people, "whining" gave their reasons why they weren't impressed. If you dont like it fair enough but don't throw your dolls out of the pram because anyone else isn't going by your "sacred" opinion. Geez.

The rest of the Illusion series on the MasterSystem/GG games was quite impressive too. Many of the latter MS games were really quite impressive for any 8bit system in its latter years. Its too bad it doesn't get as much attention with fans on what sega did with the programming on the games with that system as the MD does.
-
Yeah they definitely were. If you compare both versions back to back you'll see quite impressive things about the sms/ game gear versions. All stages are totally different, some stages "look" totally different and some music are different too. Every floor with the 3 doors, you could actually freely move and pick which order you wanted to complete the stages, while on the genesis it was linear and couldn't move mickey in the level select hub but moved himself from one to the next. I don't think you could pick things up and throw in the genesis version like u could in the sms version. But then again u couldn't throw balls in the sms version. In most of the cases it was simply better on sms for me.
It indeed doesn't get much attention. Just like in that diary video, most of the things are inspired from the genesis game. You can see him throw the balls. I'm fine with it though. While castle of illusion is a classic, surpassing it shouldn't be too hard. From a technical point it looks basic, especially compared to games like sonic, which for some strange reason they have a hard time emulating the physics/gameplay.
-
Yes which was why i think the SMS was the superior system to the NES especially in its latter years. The thing was although the ILLUSION series and the Sonic games took the same story as their MD counterpart or parts they were in essence different games which is why I never really count those titles as being ports but versions. Also historically what Sega did by giving gamers the same title across three/or four if you count the MCD platforms, is an act that Sony and Nintendo have copied in the last ten years or so.
As for this remake, technically it can be good or whatever but the thing is, i felt that the original game and QUACKSHOT to even ALADDIN were great games because they managed to capture the lighting in a bottle. These games had something that i dont think can be easily replicated. Its like NIGHTS and even the original SONIC series specifically the first SONIC game, that everything came together perfectly and it had that little something that the other games couldn't capture. There's just some things in game production where it all works out that its not easily to replicate. You see this in games like Streetfighter 2, final fight and even Contra 4 that after those titles were made and they try to create a sequel, followup to it they fail to get it like there predecessors because the titles were so perfect.I'm sure the remake will be up to a good quality like the other HD remakes sega has donebut i don't think it will capture the essence of what the original version had.

So this game is out now. Played the first world, it's pretty good so far.

Still waiting for my SEGA review code :(

I've played a little bit so far. The graphics and narration are pretty great. I just need to get use to the platforming.
