Who's managed to convince you to part with your hard earned dollars and pounds when these titans of the eighth generation finally come out? Sony's fourth generation Playstation or the third of microsoft's Xbox?

While the Xbox One is of course better now, it's still not an appealing console IMO. I'm not a fan of the Kinect, even if it worked well it just looks like a gimmicky toy that I don't see being used well in games. Also Xbox Live Gold is still a rip-off, it's got lower specs than the PS4 probably making multi-platform games on it worse and it's still more expensive. I might get it when it has more exclusive games I really want and somewhere in the €200-300 range.
PS4 however looks like the far better console to me. For one it has Sony's first/second party games, which I always enjoyed. They're also a lot more cool now about indie developers self-publishing their games, meaning there will be a lot more on the PS4 than on the Xbone. The price is just low enough for me to buy it. The one downside for me is that a subscription is now required for most online multiplayer, but seeing how I am already a PS+ member and how they are continuing the benefits of the service on PS4 I don't have a big problem with it. So I'm probably getting the PS4 at launch.

Pre-policy change, I was thinking Wii U this holiday season, a PS3 early 2013, and wait out PS4 and Xbox One for a year to see where things go.
Post-policy change, I'm leaning towards Xbox One sometime in 2014. To be honest, the TV integration and Kinect stuff appeals to me. I think the "but you just wave your arms around" argument is bullshit. I own a Kinect, I've seen the possibilities of it, and I've played titles that I honestly do think are "Better with Kinect" (Child of Eden, Gunstringer, Kinect Sports, Dance Central). The voice functions have become common use for me and my wife.
As far as games, I enjoy the Halo titles and really want to see more of Sunset Overdrive. Forza is a series I've wanted to get into. Then of course there are all the multi-platform games.
Really, it's not so much console loyalty or "OMFG dis one haz moar power den dat oneee!!". I've been in the 360 environment since '08, I've built up a community of friends and a gamerscore, I want to continue with that on the next console. PS4 looks good too, but lack of BC makes me lean towards getting a PS3 so I can play the games I missed this gen. I don't care about gaikai. I want to buy the discs, and I doubt Yakuza titles will be high on the gaikai list.

I'm in the same boat with Barry... I'm getting a Wii-U by year end, and I actually pre-ordered a Xbox One last week, even before the policy change. And not because I'm a xbox loyalist. I plan on getting a PS4, but the Xbox just happens to have more games I'm interested in. This current gen, I only got the PS3 for the exclusives, such as Uncharted, some JRPGs, and because it had a bluray player. I had my 360 first though, and got more games for that, because I'm a bit of a Forza fan and I started getting alot of my fighting games on xbox. I also have a Surface and Windows phone because I'm a web developer/administrator and work in the IT field for a company that's very Microsoft heavy and use alot of their products, so it's all stuff I'm familiar with and I'm kinda stuck in that ecosystem where I'm practically tied to my xbox account 24/7 due to all that. Alot of my friends all have xbox as well and few had a PS3.
So, Skydrive, Skype, the Windows integration, SmartGlass...it just made sense to me to lean towards the xbox, even though I really didn't care for all those stupid policies they had. The TV integration stuff though isn't something I'm interested in, as I haven't had cable in the last three years. I don't own a kinect, so that'll be an....interesting change for me.
But, the PS4 will come around, eventually. I'm also a Vita owner and that thing goes with me every time I travel for business...simply because I was really hoping PSO2 would be coming to the west on that sucker...sigh.. Oh well, at least Muramasa and Dragon's Crown is coming soon...

More likely to wait until Sega builds up a decent library of games for both systems.

Yeah I'm with ROJM. I think what sold me on wii u most was when bayo 2 was anounced and especially when sonic lost world got announced. Whenever something gets announced for either of the other ones, the option will become more clear. It also depends on whether they'll be multiplatform with PC, cuz i wont need a next gen console with exclusives i don't care about
-
Well now that it's all said and done, MS has fixed their no used games DRM, i might get an Xbox One first. I'm still on the fence about the price(really wish we'd have a no Kinect option), but overall, i'm more interested in Xbox One games. I really enjoyed what MS had to show at E3. Killer Instinct, Forza 5, Sunset Overdrive, Halo, and Titanfall all looked great. Quite honestly, had Sony just shown Uncharted 4 at E3, i would be buying a PS4 in November, hands down. Instead MS showed me a trailer to one of my favorite FPS games, Halo. I know it's sad, but yes i still play Halo.
At the end of the day, i think it'll really depend on how i'm doing money-wise in November. If i have an extra $100 to spend then i'll buy an Xbox One, if not then PS4, we'll see. I definitely am leaning more towards an Xbox One though, especially since i'm sure we'll be getting a Fable IV at some point.

Wasn't there a leak about a Gold subscription where you get the system for $299 when you sign on for 2-3 years of Gold?
-
I already pre-ordered a PS4. Can't see myself caring about the Xbox One for a long while. Can't see myself buying a Wii U without a big price drop.
-
I think I'd rather wait until after PS4 and Xbox One launch before deciding which one to get first. Though I'm kind of liking Xbox One's exclusives more than PS4 right now, but hopefully they show off more at events like Gamescom and TGS.

This is a good difference on what we know.

They should have noted that Xbox One supports external harddrives. As is, it reads like it is locked in at 500gb. Does ps4 support external? Or just the replaceable internal drive?

One thing that's wrong about the list: Sony won't allow online passes from first nor third parties on PS4 because they already require you to pay for online multiplayer.
-
I won't buy either for quite a while. I recently re-purchased a Game-cube, so I can replace the Wii witg a Wii-U at some point, when there are enoug SEGA games that I want. I already have 11 consoles set up on my TV. I'm going to run out of available outlets and HDMI ports if I have to keep the old ones because they have no option for Backwards compatibility.
-
I'll get the best one when the slim versions come out.. By the look of things, it'll be a PS4.
-
As far E3, my first thought has been pretty much, Playstation 4.
Sony and PS4 were the high points of this showing, even though, Xbox One seemed to have proper exclusives.
However, here's the thing, ever since Microsoft did away with those utopian online restrictions, Sony's major trump now seems to be the fact that it's 100 bucks cheaper.
I don't want the stupid Kinect thingy, that's for sure.

and it has better specs

Also has more games to show at Gamescom:

They have only showed mostly their launch and Infamous Second Son that was suppose to be a launch but moved to launch window (Q1 2014)

Also:
-- Free games with the PS+ subscription (it seems unlikely to me that the free games thing on Xbox 360 will carry over to Xbone so soon seeing how cheap the games they're giving away are.)
-- Self-publishing is allowed on PS4, which means it'll probably have a far bigger selection of indie games.
-- Free to play games, for which PS+ isn't needed depending on the game. For example: DC Universe Online and Planetside 2 don't require PS+.
-- They don't force PS+ on you if you want to use things like Netflix, cross game chat, Facebook etc.
-- You also don't need PS+ for online features in games besides multiplayer.
-- It's likely the better system for multi-platform games due to it having better hardware.

I wonder if this will continue to be a trend, especially now with the new policies.

Year of the PlayStation
PS3 hitting it's stride and PS4 selling out pre-orders! Vita? What's that? XD
But yeah, it's obvious Microsoft is going to need to make a Kinectless SKU for $400 if they want to compete this holiday.

What? After pushing that thing down everyone's throats for the last two years? You expect them to make the smart decision and sell an XBO without a Kinect? You will cause panic among the microsoft board with that sensible suggestion.

Holy crap that is sad.. I'm sure MS thought once they removed their restrictions that people would go crawling back to em, but that price tag is still gonna effect em. They really do need to remove Kinect from the console in order to compete with Sony.

Mark Cerny is the man: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ns21_nMzVFM&feature=youtu.be&t=2m35s I love how he talks about how he started working on arcades etc. He started working at Atari at age 17. Crazy stuff. He says he started to working at SEGA in 1985, saying he left Atari for them and worked on the Master System and Genesis.
Very cool SEGA info.
Also he put a lot of thought into the PS4. He is a great spokesperson. Talk about Sony doing a 180.

oh wow thats a long video! x_X i'll have to watch it later, my attention span is really bad at the moment. Really interested in watching it though. Mark Cerny seems like a really cool guy
