There have been some rumblings from multiple industry insiders about 2 SEGA exclusives for the PS4, these came from different individuals so I'm inclined to believe it for now.
What do you think these exclusives are?
Most likely, the first one will be RGG6, but the other one I'm not sure... Does anybody knows what the Valkriya/Skies team are working on now? I sure hope its a new IP from them.
-
Yeah RGG6 without a doubt. I think beside that hatsune miku like they did with the vita cuz of that game being a system seller, which valkyria chronicles(or any other franchise if i cant think of something now) is not. But having said that, this is pretty great news. Wonder how well SEGA will position itself on the upcoming consoles.
-
It isn't Miku. That franchise has always been a modest budget title at the most that's appeared on systems that dont require too much R+D costs which in turn gives Sega good returns in sales. Its also a multiplatform title, either on the Sony platforms, PSP /vita or 3DS and IOS. The upcoming new game was put on PS3 because its cheap to make that game now for the PS3 where before early in its run it wasn't. The PS4 wont be that cheap to develop for.
-
One is Yakuza 6.
The other is a new IP Sony opted for over Sonic exclusivity.
-
To be honest regardless on how the exclusives go, i feel this is really the best way for Sega to go in making sure they can build a new big selling franchise. The multiplatform route didn't work for most of the newer Ips that Sega launched compared to the new IPs that are just exclusives. it also helps in the marketing as the console maker is more sure to help advertise the game as they have a stake in making the title becoming succesful. As for Sonic, that title has hardly been a big performer on Sony systems so it could have been a good play by sony or that it was suprising that it happaned in the first place if it did happen. sega may not be smart all the time when it comes to business but they aren't stupid. It made more sense to offer exclusivity to Nintendo since sonic has always sold strongly on nintendo systems than to offer it to sony.
Almost makes you wonder why they didn't go for BAYONETTA 2 if it was ever offered to them since most of the million sales the game accumilated came from the PS3 end.
-

Any idea which team? I just did a quick search and it seems that VC/Skies guys (Specifically, the director and art director) last game was VC3 back in early 2011. They must be working on something right now, no?
Would it be feasible to think its their new IP? That'd be awesome!
-
And repeat what happened the last time they tried to launch a new IP on a Playstation system? Knowing this new regime they would go with someone else and probably someone who has a name. But i do think that they are long overdue in making a console specific game.
Not to mention if Sega does indeed get Atlus that will boost the exclusives number up. Especially since Atlus USA is publishing their own PS4/PC horror game next year.
-
Spill the beans Aki!!!
Seriously though, unless there's some funding going on, I can only see SEGA giving next gen a one shot after how miserably they performed this gen, generally. I wonder how Yakuza is gonna perform on ps4, also i wonder how much its gonna improve from Y5

Yeah but the titles mentioned are the ones that will be ready for launch year. They wont reveal to the public their overall plans of games for the system for the next five years.
-

It would not be quite the safest option, but they are willing to take a risk since they have Sony's support much like they did with Yakuza. That's my understanding of it anyway.
I would also like to state this is not the same source that told me all those nice little things I told to you about prior.

SEGA will be involved in all markets, it would make no sense not to have a product available for the Xbox One and Playstation 4 when both are at the very least going to do 100 million+ sales.
-
Seeing as there wasn't much coming out from them in the last couple years anyway. This gen has proven that the installbase doesn't really matter that much, cuz the game could still sell poorly.
SEGA has always been on he launch bandwagons. Sometimes with great games, and sadly mostly with pretty average games. I hope they take this launch more seriously, and possibly strike gold with a great IP, if thats the other exclusive. But I don't know. All I know is that SEGA has been bringing out less big games on the consoles for reasons

Yeah but before Sega Japan had Sega USA and Sega Europe helping them tally up the number of the exclusive IPs during the launch. now that those operations in making game content has been more or less severed its just sega japan. but of course as mentioned before if Atlus ends up being brought by Sega they will have a lot more exclusives for PS4.
-

Well it could help. FULL AUTO and CONDEMNED especially didn't do too bad. They both had modest numbers in sales. But instead of passing the buck to sega west like they did before this gen, maybe SOJ should make a new game exclusivily for that platform for its launch year as well.
Sega's next batch of multiplatform games seems designated for the current generation and the 360. Which makes one wonder if its all new games or based on arcade ports.
-
That's true. I sometimes forget about how SEGA japan still has great support. We'll see I guess. I am not very good at these kinds of predictions. What I know is that I got a Wii U for SEGA games, and that if PS4 gets something great as well, I might have to put aside some money for when they come out... if they get localized. How big are the chances yakuza gets another chance here in the west?
-
Sega japan runs the subsidaries now, they're not semi independent like they use to be. And they wanted YAKUZA to be a strong IP internationally. So if they want it localised the others have no choice but to localise the title. I can't see how that will change, especially since it was one of the key five IP that Sega will focus on that has been mentioned in subsequent stock reports. But of course these things are never etched in stone, it always depends on what the situation is at the time and sega always changes their mind.
-
My heart says Valkyria Chronicles 4 but my head says something more safer than that. Perhaps Shinobi? The franchise has been in almost every generation except the Dreamcast, and the last console Shinobi game was on PS2 iirc.
-
A solid Shinobi title from OverWorks/WoW would be great. I doubt it though.
-
Aki's source says its a new IP.
So no Shinobi, Valkriya, or Hatsune Miku.
-
Any thoughts as to a developer? I'm hoping it'll be OverWorks or AM2.
-

Hahaha oh god that would be nice. I like these AM2 dreams that form around E3 every year. I'll keep my PS4 preorder if there's AM2 landing on it. I have little faith though. Border Break would be nice. It's about freaking time they port the game.
-
I think AM2 will forever be focused on the Arcade market...
I bet it will be a new IP from the Sakura Wars/Skies of Arcadia/Valkyria people. Shuntaro Tanaka, who did Interviews for VC1 when it came out...sounded too smart or ambitious to be forever shelved aside for generic Shining sequels.
-
What rumors are these? From 4chan or some other source?
If it's a new IP then there's really nothing to talk about until its revealed.

The source comes from neogaf originally, the original poster said the exact same thing about a new game and another YAKUZA game because Sony didn't want the Sonic exclusive. That bit about sonic is what i found dubious because Sonic was never a massive seller on Sony systems anyway and YAKUZA was always going to be a Sony exclusive to begin with. As for the new game well to be honest sega hasn't had a good track record in launching new IP on Sony's PS. So its not like Sega had anything to bargain with for Sony to be intrested unless they said that the YAKUZA titles were going MP for next gen. That and this new IP must be something bloody spectacular for Sony to want it over sonic.
-
It's not just NeoGAF. Aki-At has also reiterated these rumors (He also added that one of them is a New IP, NeoGAF never specified.)

so are the implications that Sega offered sony Sonic exclusivity and they turned it down? After which they. . .took it to nintendo? This all sounds a bit odd given that as you said, sega really has nothing to offer Sony. Valkyria Chronicles was a fantastic game, but just barely moved 1 million units on its own. It's hard to believe sony would sign on for anything. And Sega themselves have very little to gain by making Sony exclusives seeing as how the XBOX1 will definitely have an enormous install base as well.
I'll remain skeptical until I see an announcement.
-

Perhaps they liked what they saw about the IP and wanted to see if it works for them like Yakuza?
I have faith it will be great, whoever is making it....I am secretly hoping it's AM3 because I haven't see them do many franchises on consoles except from Crazy Taxi? (Virtual On would be amazing but that's an old IP)
Overworks is perfectly fine as I loved Valkyria Chronicles.
If Sony really were given the option to have Sonic, then it's certainly odd not to take it despite Sonic not selling as well on Sony machines (since it's SEGA's biggest hitter), but I guess they want the next "Monster Hunter" hit for their Home Console market (I hope it isn't a MonHun clone personally).
I wonder where Aki-At gets his sources from? Would be interesting to know if he's allowed to tell us, that is.

They did. A poster called Verendus mentioned it.

Verendus also said two Sega IP's are coming to PS4 and that Sony let Sonic go for a new project.
anyway excellent thread amirox
The post dates before aki mentioned it here. unless he mentioned it somewhere else and heard it from someone else. I can believe it if the rumour hadn't mentioned sonic. But we will see.
-
Verendus seems to be a Sony insider. He seems to know a lot about Sony from the posts he makes, and was right about multiple things from Sony that got revealed.

New Project =/= New IP.
When someone says New Project, the first thing that comes to mind is a project that has just begun development, not a New IP.

He said new IP as well later on. But to your new project thing, if it was a new project of an known game he would have said so since YAKUZA was mentioned as that is also a new project of an established series. The point is the rumor started there first on both counts.

http://gematsu.com/2013/08/sony-working-with-atlus-level-5-rockstar-more-exclusive-playstation-game-content
Sony says they are working with many publishers for exclusive PS content. Which could mean literally anything but SEGA is the list too. never seen SEGA do platform exclusive content (besides taking advantage of silly gimmicks or using avatars/mii's). It's usually either a full exclusive or not exclusive at all. Should be interesting to see how this pans out.
I don't get the feeling it's Vita related either, Sony America never talks about the Vita unless they are talking about indie games. xD
-
I like how Atlus is suddenly as important as Rockstar.
Was it the Catherine game? Persona 4 came out in 08
-
I hope SEGA considers the Vita for their smaller budget titles really.
Dragon's Crown is a testament that niche games CAN sell well if they provide a good balance.

So appearently according to that Gaffer, Yakuza is not part of this.

Well since YAKUZA ISHI is revealed as a sony platform exclusive and PHANTASY STAR NOVA is a vita exclusive i think we can assume that these were the games that aki or whoever was going on about. I can't see sony picking a new Ip over sonic unless it was something that benefited them directly and PS has definatly benefited the PSP in sales

Sorry for bumping this topic, but it seems the NeoGAF insider who started this rumor (Verendus) is still insisting the game is in development.
From what he says, it's an Action/Adventure new IP for PS4. He also says it's likely that the game will be revealed this year since it's been in the works for quite some time now.
Could it be the TGS announcement?

Source to the insider post please!
I didn't find his older posts, but these ones are relatively recent:
From December 2014:
Another unnamed IP which is coming to Playstation exclusively from Sega should hopefully be announced next year. It's had teething issues which seems to be making it take longer than I thought, as have most other projects on current gen to be fair from the looks of it, but I'm happy to mention it again because it looks like we might finally get an announcement next year. I'm hoping at least. This one's not a fighting game.

AFAIK he is NeoGAF's most credible insider. He got many things right like FF7Remake, FFversus being rebranded, RARE's new IP, Horizon... I think someone at NeoGAF was keeping a list of the things he got right.

Just because I'm not hype doesn't mean I doubt it will happen.
I'm sure Sega has something to show off at TGS, I just don't know if it will be good is all.
It'll probably be good. Hatsune Miku vs Jack Lumber: Battle of Destiny. I would play the SHIT out of that game.
EDIT: The thought that it might be PS4 AND PC makes me a bit more hype, because I might actually be able to play it then. Whatever it is.
EDIT II: I can't say what the game will be, but I think we need to wait and see ;)

I have faith. Can you not have faith without hype?
I'm not joking when I said I would play a Miku Action-Adventure game though. Don't you dare tell me that wouldn't be sick.
-
Anyone else thing they should add some goodies to the $100 tier? I know they are releasing a lot of $1k+ tiers, but it would be nice of them to make the more affordable tiers more tempting to those at the $60 level in an effort for a $40 bump.
Honestly, I think the random capsule toy, digital art book and OST should have been at the $100 level.

We already have that game. It's called Yakuza 5.
(I'd have bought a full fledged Haruka game)

I am curious if it's an action adventure game, how exactly it would play. I mean, it's a broad term.
I'm not going to expect DMC/Bayonetta because if they wanted to do that I imagine they would have done something with Bayonetta instead.
Maybe it'll be something more along the lines of Zelda/Oasis.

For real, I'm so glad that VF has never done this kind of thing. I hate when fighting games pull the 'Your favourite character died off screen, so you can't use them in this game'.
Apart from Taka, who was removed for gameplay reasons, you've been able to use your character in each game, and nobody had been removed.
ALSO: I would use Shun, Jeffry or Goh before I went to Eileen. Even Lau.
-
I feel like they're preparing to remove Lau... He's one giant sun spot by VF5.
-
I wonder why Sega never released VF5 on PC.
With so many console shifts in my life, I'm left with VF2 on the Saturn. Not that it's a bad thing.
-
I feel like they're preparing to remove Lau... He's one giant sun spot by VF5.
Yeah I've had this discussion with friends as well, considering Lau has been 'dying' since VF3.
I wouldn't mind if he got removed from the game, so long as they replaced him with a character that had his moveset/gameplay (Pai does not play the same, and I don't want to see Lei-Fei just get some of Lau's moves, they are hugely different characters)
It would be cool if they gave the costume options to make him back into Lau again too!
(Should we just make a VF6: Hopes and Dreams thread?)
