Baught it today... been playing for about 4 hours... love all the extras.
Beating everyone on my XBL friends list in score attack! =3
-
I have all trophies except for seeing the A ending. I don't know how to get anything but the C ending.
-
I've got the C ending and the B ending, but I have no idea how I got B... Let alone A.
-
I'm missing the AAA and the A ending achievements. Even with many of the EX options unlocked. That's how bad I am at this game.
But I love it!
-
SOUP said in the other thread that to get A you need to complete every emergency order that happens through the game and shoot down all the missiles.
Anyway, I got the game and love it, I haven't played Afterburner since I was very young playing it at the arcade with my dad. When I put on the classic music it all came back to me, very fun game.
Along with OutRun, this has to be one of my favourite XBLA games, they've done an excellent job with this.
-
Bought it today. Freaking love it.
-
I bought it when it was on PSN. I was prepared.
I got a B ending, I hit the 'target' in that one level. That is what made it go from C to B.
-
Got it... only played it a few times so far. It's great... I think of it as a sibling to Panzer Dragoon and Rez, but the fastest of them by far.
I was around 1700 on the leaderboards when I checked, gotta do better!
-
Oh hey, how are you supposed to beat that Stealth Bomber? I can't seem to get him down.
-
You have to track it through the entire first part, then in the desert stage just blast the shit out of him with your gun. I've only been able to do it twice since I usually smash into a mountain in the first part and lose him.
-
I was playing the game and my dad was in the room, so I asked him if he remembered Afterburner and to come check this out.
He had a look at the game and I explained how it's a sequel/remake that Sega made. First thing he asked was 'Does it have the same music?' and actually started humming the Afterburner theme. I couldn't believe that he remembered it aobut 15 years since we used to play it in the arcade. He thought the graphics and everything looked really great, and said how much he used to love that machine. I doubt he would be able to play it on a controller, but I was impressed that he remembered so much about the game from all that time ago.
EDIT: I'm now number 2 on the rankings, just 2000 points behind Sharky! :afroman:
-
Haven't downloaded the game but I will soon.

Not anymore!

I'm soooo getting this in a week or two. I have no money right now, and I'm still dying for Pokemon Gold.
-
Just got the A ending meaning I have all the trophies now.
Good game, although i'm not much of a leaderboard chaser so it might be a short one for me.
-
I can't manage to get better than a C ending even with EX options on :(
-
I only play interactive movies posing as games, backed by mega marketing budgets and sold under big name franchises to mass audiences.
I can't handle something of this energy and intensity.

Aw but you might actually...*gasp*...have fun! :-O XD

Just got it! AWESOME GAME!
Probably my best PSN game ever!
I finished it on first try though I failed a lot... I'm currently the last place in my friends Leaderboard (Aki-at on top!)
How many endings are there? I got ending C.
I was teary-eyed when I saw the SEGA logo in the ending, seriously this game is so SEGA-ish, a perfect example of a true SEGA game, I want more AM2 ports please :(
-

Keep playing. There's an EX option that will let you get to the last level no matter what, and you just have to make sure to shoot down the missiles to get ending A.
I really loved this game. I hope SEGA takes a hint and starts releasing more ports as downloadable games.

You realise the guy that probably made all of your favourite arcade games (Yu Suzuki) also pretty much pioneered the first and most obvious 'interactive movie' game. (Shenmue) And started the whole trend.
Shenmue is also the best game ever!
-
Played ABC last night, got the C ending and a load of EX options!
The option to have the machine gun auto fire is a godsend. My thumb was hurting holding down "A" throughout the game. Also, I like the larger crosshairs. Makes it easier to see what I'm shooting at from across the room.

ABC is the number 1 XBLA download!

Just became number one of my freindlist, Aki is lagging behind!
-
One time I booted the game and it did the Sega jingle from Sonic The Hedgehog. Hasn't done it again. Anyone know how to make it do that?

Sad but true, that score was based on one playthrough.
I am too busy these days

Yeah, I appreciate the counter perspective.
For the sake of offering a defense, I would say that Shenmue was unique in that it is really a hybrid crossing over various genres and featured more of that "vitua" aspect than most interactive movie games with FREE's and the open world. You could make a game that is entirely a point and click FMV and it still could be art just based on what it expresses, presentation and overall uniqueness. Kind of like Dragon's Lair in the sense that it trail blazed its respective style in a memorable way with a flair and charm that held the test of time. At the end of the day Shenmue is art based on the risky nature of the endeavor of undertaking it and everything that is expressed in the game. Yu wanted to give players a unique experience with Shenmue and on that level the success of that achievement is reflected in the fan love and demand for another Shenmue today.
Back on top, AFC is admittedly a game that just makes a Sega fan proud to be a Sega fan.
This is the essence of sega style.

The game just bricked my PS3.
I was playing the game, then suddenly the PS3 turned itself off and I got YLOD.
I'm currently raging, hopefully I can fix it.

This. We should make a cross-platform Sega Bits leaderboard.
I'll post my sad score over the weekend.

the first guy got about 2.6 million
how he managed to do that !
-
I'm currently ranked in the low 900s, with 859860. Not so good, but getting better!
-
i'm exactly 1000 in the global rank list with 853xxx (don't remember exactly), go me! i will reach 1 million one day 8-)
-
Seems like I'm having the most trouble with the last three stages... I was on pace to break a million at the second 'cutscene,' but came up short at the end (about 900,000, ranked in the 700s). I'll have to practice with those last stages individually... I really dig the fact that they put that practice mode in there as an option.

As I posted in the review article comments:
Hold down A or the PS3 equivalent at startup to hear the classic SEGA tune.

Thanks, I gathered it was either based on me having previously accomplishing something or a button I didn't realize I was holding down.

btw, great review George.

Thank you.

I recently bought a big screen (like damn, big, 80 inch) and I have to say... I am so glad it arrived just in time for this game! It looks so good when it's massive ;D

^^^He was really vocal about asking SEGA to bring it on the service prior to the reveal though?
