Website: http://www.bayonetta-movie.com/
Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxrIoffNzX8
Apparently people are speculating that maybe the CG movie once rumored for TGS a few years ago was scrapped along w/Bayo 2, and sometime after Ninty decided to publish Bayo 2, the idea for a Bayo movie came back to them.
-
Or maybe it was never scrapped in the first place. It takes three years to produce an animated movie. And Sega is mentioned as owning Bayonetta on the trailer so that should stop this nonsense that Nintendo owns Bayonetta now. They don't and never will.
-
I saw this yesterday on gaf. For some reason which i'm not familiar with everyone is being cynical about this. To me that trailer looks pretty good
Hope it is good cuz it could add some interest towards the release of the game
-
It also adds to my personal Sega media collection. I just completed collecting BAKUGAN and all it spin offs. Now i can look forward to this and that new SAKURA TAISEN movie. No doubt Sega will use their asserts to get some of Atlus IPs animated.

I was hoping this was a game of some description, but this is still good

Gonzo can be pretty hit and miss. For every great series or movie they've made, they've made a bad one. And video game anime has a strong tendency to suck.
That being said, this should meet my borderline criteria: a well animated movie featuring Bayonetta killing shit. That's all I really want.

....you bought Bakugan?
Well anyway, there are already three Persona animated projects, including a Persona 4 animated series.

I brought anything Sega related. From Sega toy related BAKUGAN to JEWEL PET to VIRTUA FIGHTER and PANZER DRAGOON. Anything Sega i'll collect. Sega like its choice in games has an odd way in choosing who gets a film or TV anime serie and who doesn't.

Looks bad to me.
Bayonetta needs that extravagant, fluid and exaggrated animation.
Cookie cutter animation ala DMC won't cut it

I don't quite understand the hate for Gonzo. The shows they make will only ever be as good as they're written and directed which varies from creator to creator, just like any other company. If anything I suppose their integration of CG has always been a bit tacky.
Last Exile and Tower of Druaga were both excellent but it was again because of their scripts, not the animation quality.

Well, Panzer and VF I definitely understand. Even though Panzer was probably the worst anime I have ever seen. I can't believe that OVA got a dub, even a bad dub.

Don't get me wrong, I like what little I've seen of Gonzo. Samurai 7 is the only Gonzo animation I've seen all the way through, and that is a personal favorite of mine.

That sort of animation is usually reserved for the battle scenes, of which we saw little of. Hopefully those will be as glorious as they should be.

Well, this was announced 2 years after the CG Bayo movie was rumored, right? Either somehow the CG project was reworked into this, Bloody Fate is a completely separate project and the CG movie that was originally rumored never existed, or something else entirely.

Last Exile is fucking fantastic. I have zero issues with this choice, they probably should have produced it in-house but whatever.

As opposed to those bad SONIC cartoons from the nineties that people here like to rave about? You should actually watch at least some of the newer cartoons to really make a judgement. In any case there hasn't been a great Sega adaption in film, TV and anime although that YAKUZA spin off KUROHYO TV series was quite well done. I just get it because i'm a collector of all things Sega and i can afford it. Out of the animes that i really enjoyed was the SONIC OAV, VF and the SAKURA TAISEN tv anime series. But the newer ones wasn't too bad either, BAKUGAN and DINOSAUR KING was pretty dark towards the end of their runs for that type of inspired Pokemon show.

As well as a spin off game which the creators of BAYONETTA are now hinting at. Like i said Sega made sure the only sucessful Platinum game got continued without having to honour that expensive contract they originally made with them. Now were starting to see other things in the franchise start popping up with Sega not having to pay much for the actual games but still reaping the rewards with any spinoff material like the anime, movie, promotional tie ins and their cut on the game sales. BAYONETTA was actually more popular in Japan than it was over here in the west so they would not abandon it.

Hey, Sonic SatAM was an awesome kids show in the 90s! Hasn't aged all that well, but most 90s animations haven't, aside from Gargoyles and some Warner Brothers classics. I think a lot of love for many of the cartoons from back then stems from nostalgia, and I'll be the first to admit that that's probably one the reasons why I still like SatAm XD.
I tried watching Bakugan a few times long ago and I found it quite painful. How dark it is doesn't really concern me: I just found the story to be incredibly lacking and the voice acting to be terrible.
I actually got Sakura Wars on DVD recently. Dub hasn't aged all that well, but it's something I really want to check out when I have the time. Only seen the first episode so far and it didn't really grab me, but most anime tends to take few episodes to get going.
Aside from Sonic stuff, what SEGA media would you recommend? Should I check out Virtua Fighter?

Yes but you will hate the dub acting. I'll admit the dub of BAKUGAN and DINOSAUR KING is bad just like SONIC X but what i liked about those anime is that they were all mini epics in their own way, they took their world or universe seriously. It wasn't cutesy as other anime that do that type of thing. Any anime that has the bad guy seemingly killing off one of the hero's parents and making him an orphan as what happened in DINOSAUR KING isn't that bad. So its different. and its Sega. I recommend SAKURA TAISEN
VF,Canaan is good, and if you can stomach it some of the SHINING stuff. I think you would enjoy VALKYRIA and WORLD DESTRUCTION animes better though. The real problem is the better anime Sega has been involved in aren't properties that Sega made like FIST OF THE NORTHSTAR,EVENGION and a couple of BLEACH movies. Even saying that its easy to obtain the Sega based animes because there simply isn't that many of them around.
And don' get me wrong i don't hate the Sonic cartoons from the states, i just dont think they are any better or worst than what Sega has for anime now. But i think we can agree that we would all like to see some anime based on core Sega titles instead or just added to the Sega toys/kids orientated Sega games based anime they have been putting out over the last decade. So BAYONETTA is welcome but something on SHINOBI or even BINARY DOMAIN or along those lines would be much welcomed.

I think what is most interesting about this announcement is there must be some underlying desire in SEGA to continue Bayonetta as a franchise and this is possibly the strongest indication of any such matter.
Okay it could be a one off, but what would the logical reason be for producing this anime if you were not going to continue the brand?

I don't think Sega said they wasn't interested in continuing the brand. They just couldn't come to terms with Platinum Games. PG kinda said that they were in negotiations after VANQUISH came out and they obviously wanted a percentage similar to their first contract which Sega probably didn't want to do. Makes one think if Sega sabotaged ANARCHY REIGNS chances of becoming succesful on purpose. Also the fact that Sega and not PG came to some arrangement with Nintendo or the name BAYONETTA would never have been used for the sequel in the first place. PG is just the developer and not the publisher, its always different channels when it comes to IP rights and things like that because contracts and lawyers are involved. If this 3DS spinoff does happen, Sega will more likely be involved in some capacity since they own the rights to Jeanne as well.
