Title: SEGA at E3. Predictions?
Post by: Nameless 24 on May 09, 2014, 06:34:29 am
I honestly don't know what to expect from SEGA this year.

I am guessing ATLUS will show off most of their Persona games of course, but SEGA wise....I am unsure.

Yakuza 6? Phantasy Star Nova?

Do you guys know what they'll show?

Likely Sonic Boom for Wii U and 3DS as well as Alien Isolation. Perhaps a few surprises too? Like more SEGA Heritage releases?

I'd follow Barry's direction.
Although I'd replace the "few surprises" with "One surprise".

In the past few years not only Sega but all the others companies did not surprise us because all of their lineups leaked days/weeks before the show.

Sonic Boom, Hatsune Miku: Project Diva f 2nd and Alien: Isolation are a given.

Some 3DS classic titles too I'd imagine. We know that the Creative Assembly team that developed Rome II is free but probably too early to reveal their next title, there is the Total War: Arena game but I'm unsure if they've already showed that off? Perhaps they'll announce their Warhammer game here?

Relic was developing another title alongside Company of Heroes 2 but after SEGA's purchase I'm unsure if they've cancelled it or not. Finally there is the fabled Phantasy Star Online 2 that people hypothesize Relic might be gearing it up for a Western release.

Looking at their Japanese studios, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio is making a new title but that would probably be unveiled at TGS, Sonic Team is busy with the next mainline Sonic game I'm sure but I doubt they'll show off anything so not to harm Sonic Boom's chances, AM2 is busy doing updates to Boarder Break and Shining Force Cross but perhaps there is an outside chance of showing off Virtua Fighter 6. Other bets would be Phantasy Star Nova but I could only see it coming over here if Sony helps with publishing/financial incentives.

Sonic Boom, Alien Isolation and I don't expect anything else.

Has Sega revealed anything in the last 5 years or so at E3? Usually they just show us the same stuff we've seen already, MAYBE a new trailer.

Having said that, I am actually interested to see how Sonic Boom and Alien are shaping up, but I'm not expecting anything like Yakuza or VF. I imagine Yakuza is now dead in the west forever, and that VF will be revealed for arcades first in Japan rather than a console-centric show.

Really want a localization.  Sega is only going to lose more fans and becomes hard to talk about Sega games when everybody is mad at them.

In my opinion Aki has expressed perfectly what SEGA will be able to really show at the E3, while I expect that a good portion of the efforts by the company will be dedicated to the Atlus side, although I imagine that such titles, or the greater part of them, at least initially remain foreclosed to Europe.

Maybe we'll find out more on Guilty Gear Xrd?

Maybe we'll find out more on Guilty Gear Xrd?

I think Aksys would get the home version over Sega, based on the last couple releases.

Sega needs to promote Alien: Isolation at E3 as their major title in the past few years.

Hmmmm, not seen Bayonetta 2 all that much in presence, so will we see more of that with a Western Release Date?

Some very good posts in thus thread as well.

How about that comment on celebrating 20 years of the Virtual On series? Thinking they may mention it at E3 or TGS for some reason...

I completely forgot about that! Anyway seeing as how SEGA celebrated Virtua Fighter's anniversary, which is to say little fanfare outside of cameo appearance, I'm not sure we should hold our breath for Virtual On.

That being said I would love if stuff like Virtual On, Jet Set Radio etc were developed as B tier titles by SEGA and made for PSN/XBLA/Steam etc I think we've seen with the indie revolution that there is a big appetite for these types of releases but only Ubisoft (And Sony?) seem to have latched onto the idea.

They've been heavily promoting it already, far more than Sonic Boom.

Anyway, outside of already announced stuff, I wouldn't expect too many new games. SEGA hasn't really revealed much at E3 lately. We can probably also expect new trailers for the English versions of Persona Q and Persona 4 Arena Ultimax. Nintendo will also no doubt show Bayonetta 2 on their Nintendo Direct-like thing.

I really don't expect any surprises either, certainly not any new titles we aren't already aware of.

Sega is mum on Bayonetta, you'd probably have to wait to hear from Nintendo's stream.

Yeah I agree. They've been handling (although arguably not all that well) a new patch for Accent Core, so Guilty Gear is pretty solidly Arc System Works in the future. Plus, their response to the Wii U Xrd petition probably seals the deal.

Haha! I only remembered because I loved what I played of that series. :D

I doubt it'll get another game in the franchise, but I like to hope, you know?

Ubisoft? Do you mean Child of Light? I was interested in that title but wasn't into the whole "Duluxe Edition" thing where you get physical items but the game is Digital.

I've been looking at the SKUs in that financial report, and it does sadly seem like most of them will be filled with games we already know, but I am hoping we get a surprise or two from it (Nova Western release for me!).

The safest guess of a "surprise" is likely another "All Stars" game, given we've had almost 18 months since the last game's release and the pattern of the games being announced is usually between 2 to 3 years.

As Aki-at said, after the VF anniversary was such a fizzer, I wouldn't expect anything at all for V-On. Might be surprised, but I also might win the lottery.

As for Bayo, if anything Nintendo will be showing that off, not Sega.

I forgot about Guilty Gear XRD, but I think that's far too early to be showing at consumer shows. Also it would depend on ATLUS/Sega doing the port. I am keen to see how that game develops though  :))

I would even be excited for some more HD releases of classics like Skies of Arcadia and Shenners, maybe even JSRF since the first is out now?

It's such a shame Sega had such a spotty history with ports and remakes, from the horrendous stuff like Crazy Taxi and SC5 to the sublime JSR re-release. If they have the JSR guys on board still would be great to see more ports coming from classic DC titles (Steam please!) Not to mention, I would buy Crazy Taxi on Steam if they did the port properly and had the original music!

Shining Resonance is announced!

Fuck man, I was hoping it was an amazing Shining x Resonance of Fate crossover. :(

I bet it won't be released in the West either AND to top it all off, it looks like they MAY use the CANVAS engine.

Media.Vision again. Tony Taka again.

Shining again.

edit: I decided to explain my post more: it comes across as more of the same nu-Shining, and when the previous fare didn't seem appealing and wasn't coming here anyway, there isn't much to be excited about.

The platform question was not answered though. Probably Vita.

Pretty much. Sega still dragging their franchises through mud while saying "You mad, son? YOU MAD?" to the fans.

I think at this point the closest we will ever get to classic Shining is AM2's Shining Force Cross. All the SRPG Shining games bombed in Japan and the classic ones hardly ever sold well, the series is more successful now than it ever has been. It's time to move on guys : (

On a sidenote, glad SEGA Japan is still making console games! If only they'd pass their titles over to Atlus to bring out over here since SoA/SoE has not intentions to.

Speaking of which, how long do you think they'll allow Atlus USA to co-exist with Sega West? There's gotta be a certain amount of redundancy between the two.

I've accepted it. I didn't realise the old games never sold well though, I thought at least the MD ones were supposed to be okay (Why else make so many?).

I've just generally given up on Sega a long time ago, I wouldn't even call myself a Sega fan anymore, and I have zero excitement for anything they do unless it's Virtua Fighter. I would say Yakuza, but they don't even translate those anymore so...

Not sure about that, doubt they're going to try destabilizing their Atlus investment so soon after pouring $100 million into it, especially as their US arm has a better track record at providing results for Japanese titles than SEGA's American branch.

SEGA likes to bleed money. IIRC they were worried about sales for the series as far back as Shining Force 2.

But what about Miku Mang?! Come lower that facade of muscularity and embrace the cutesy side of your life, let there be no doubts in your soul.

Anyway where you're coming from but what about Alien: Isolation or have you been burnt badly by Aliens: Colonial Marines?

The layoffs don't necessarily have to be aimed at Atlus USA. Regardless, I think one will eventually be integrated into the other, and the Atlus USA name ends up being retired.

I honestly don't even know what Hatsune Miku games are supposed to be. Are they rhythm/karaoke games?

As for Colonial Marines, I'm cautiously optimistic about it, unrelated to Colonial Marines scandal, but just because it's been so long since anyone did Survival Horror well. It's shaping up nicely so far. At the same time, I forgot that it's an in-house developed Sega game so I guess I can add that. It felt like it was just a publishing job, which could have been any developer. I will have to give Sega props if they release it as an actual horror game, considering Evil Within looks like 'Resident Evil 4-6' rather than Survival Horror.

I also remembered that I enjoy the CoH series (although that's declining rapidly), I guess that's technically a Sega game, but really Sega just bought the IP when it was nearly finished.

Yeah it's worth noting that Sega is making a PS3 RPG. A safe venture IMO, but still something that is intriguing

as for Sonic Boom:

possibly not at E3?

Hehehe. The GAF poster typed that in, so it wasn't a gaffe on an E3 organizer's part unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your point of view)

And as I recall, the E3 stand for Sega last year was quite large, certainly larger than this one, unless I'm mixing it up with something else.

Despite the smaller SEGA booth, I'm sure they'll have a presence in the Nintendo booth as well with Sonic Boom and Bayonetta 2. It's likely the SEGA booth will be focusing on Alien: Isolation with a few iOS and 3DS games off to the side.

It's just a recurring meme. Capcom misspelled their name in a promotional video for Steel Battalion and whenever Capcom does something that people think makes them look foolish sometimes "capcpom" shows up

Sega is actually just going to be a hotdog stand next to the toilets, where they will be handing out flyers for Alien: Isolation and have a photo of Jack Lumber 2 to tease their next big release.
