Following today's announcement, (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_NLK-jEDGc)The X-Box One has just become a major competitor to Sony. Having FINALLY dropped the Kinect as a forced purchase and a price drop to $399, the X-Box is looking better and better. Also, with this announcement, comes the fact that "Games with Gold will be including free games on X-Box One as well. PLUS, no more stupid paywall for entertainment apps. All starting in early June.
Sp basically, they've become a Playstation 4. XD
But yes, NOW I'm interested in buying a X-Box One. But it's not just the price drop There's a good library of exclusive games I'm interested in. I rented Titanfall on the 360 and loved it so much that I bought the game. It's the best multiplayer FPS out there and I'd love to play with with next gen graphics. Also, I finally saw the new trailer for Sunset Overdrive. Damn Son! It looks like Jet Set Radio, Ratchet and Clank and Dead Rising merged into one awesome-looking game. It's really got my style of gameplay to it and it's the game that finally got me really thinking "I really want an X-Box One now".
Will this make me prefer an XB1 over a PS4? No. I'll take my third party games in 1080P thank you, But X-Box One is slowly building a great exclusives library over time so I'm excited to see what's gonna happen at E3.
See you in June!

Awesome, good to know it's getting the interest of gamers now that the price has been dropped.
Xbox One has a better library of games right now, so i think this is a great strategy. I do love my Kinect though, using it for Netflix is pretty great.
-
This is garbage. They sold me on the fact that every Xbone was going to have a Kinect so we could expect better support for it. A mere 6 months after release and they're already axing the biggest differentiator from the PS4? And dropping it $100? I thought all the constant sales and bundling of Titanfall were slaps in the face, but this is something else.
They better have a damn good E3 showing...

Saw this coming a mile away...

I'm out. Still not low enough when it can't even run games at 1080p. I'll just upgrade my video card from 560 to a 760.

Was I the only one that found kinect creepy and made it the sole reason to avoid the One?
This is great news for me

I love my 360 Kinect, but that was an add-on, not a forced accessory that added $100 to the console. I'm much happier with this tiered method of a $399 and $499 model.
I've never found Kinect creepy, it's just a mic and a camera. Might as well call any piece of tech with those things creepy. :-/

A lot of people found it creepy because Microsoft was initially going to require you to always be online (for DRM purposes) and have Kinect connected (because it's just sooo integral to the whole "all-in-one multimedia experience").

I think i'm just paranoid about these kinds of things. I recently even closed my self presenting facebook account and made a random one just to follow a couple of pages I like. Not a fan of the whole privacy infiltration in the last couple of years. I just wanna play some gahdamn games 8)

The title of your thread and this video go together nicely.

I can imagine Microsoft using this for big Sports/TV Personality Stars now. :S
-
They planned this all along. Sucker as many people as possible, then try to appear kinder. Then repeat until, of course they start making the new console and dropping support. Here is a stupid question? Can an X-box one be used as a cable box? I was just thinking about this, for a moment, I mean why not. When you buy an X-box 720, your buying your very own lame cable box. That would be the next move for Microsoft. Lets just make the thing take channels, no better, install an tuner, and hook it up to an satellite dish.
-
I seriously doubt this planned this all along.. They noticed stagnant sales and decided to drop the price by getting rid of Kinect. I don't see this as a negative thing at all and i paid for a $500 Day One Edition. If this gets MS more sales and more people buy a console, i have no issue with that.

Here is a few reasons why this isn't enough for me.
1. They abandoned everything that Xbox One stood for. I understand that people will say they hated the ideas they had. This is untrue. What people hated was the lack of details and how bad their DRM was. Always online, bad, but the idea of digital titles or making your disc into digital isos, was NOT bad. The problem with them is instead of working out the issues, they just dropped everything that made them stand out.
2. It isn't a price drop, its less features. If they really wanted to one up Sony they would drop the Kinect Xbox One's to 400 and a non-Kinect versions for 350.
3. Its a less powerful PS4 at this stage.
-
I don't know. I think it's too late for Microsoft to catch up to Sony at this point. There was so much bad press before launch, mostly everybody made up their minds then. Sure, they reversed some of their plans due to the feedback, but it was too late I suppose.
That and the post-launch reception hasn't been so good for it either. (weaker than the PS4, missing features, etc.)
-
I already have a PS4. I might get an Xbox One when it's below $300 and there are enough exclusive games on it that I want. And Sunset Overdrive and Halo 5 aren't enough for me. There's also the possibility that Insomniac will later port the game over to PC or PS4 or make a sequel that isn't exclusive to Xbox One, seeing how they own the IP. So this $400 Kinect-less Xbox One isn't really convincing me just yet. If anything, it should be even cheaper because the hardware is inferior to the PS4.

Well, after trading in a ton of games to Best Buy, I finally got myself an X-box One.
So far, after 2 HOURS of updating, I get to the homescreen, put some games in queue, and put in Titanfall........IT'S BEEN 2 & 1/2 HOURS AND IT'S STILL INSTALLING THE FUCKING GAME!! It's got a 1.5 GB update with it.
Fuck this generation. I remember a time when I could just stick a disc or a cartridge in a system and it would just play the fucking game. It'll be tomorrow before I fucking play ANYTHING on it.

PS4 installs games really fast. That is certainly one advantage it has over the XBOX One at the moment. Maybe Microsoft will change that in the future.

Same happened with me when i got Dead Rising 3, those installs are ridiculous. I'm sure you'll have some fun with it once you get it up and running.

Titanfall is the only game I can play right now because the other games are taking fucking forever to install. So while I'm waiting, I decide to play the Lego Movie and..... YOU NEED TO INSTALL A BLU-RAY PLAYER APP?! What fucking madness is this? How can you be so fucking incompetent as to not have a working Blu-ray player right out of the box?! Jesus.
I will say this, your movie apps download fast and surprisingly require no extra sign in despite being on a brand new machine. That's convenient. Also seem to have a sharper picture streamin on X-Bone than my PS4 fr some reason. Also, the system is super quiet.
-
I love the feel of the controller, I might just get one for my PC gaming (as little of it as I do).
-
So I had the system on all goddamn day downloading the Dead Rising 3 demo. I should have stopped when I realized it was 7 GB in size (yes, the ENTIRE game is on the demo). It finally downloads and freezes up on both the gamma selection and titles screen. IT DOESN'T WORK AT ALL!
This is the absolute worst day one experience I have ever had with a video game system. I'm sorry I ever bought the piece of shit. Hopefully, my opinion will change in the upcoming weeks, but for now, I'm VERY disappointed.
-
Should have just gotten a good PC. *wags finger*
-
So the last two days have been going pretty good. I downloaded Killer Instinct overnight along with Halo: Spartan Wars. Killer Instinct is a lot of fun I must say. I also got Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare which had an update that took forever...again Then I got a headset adapter that works really well...after I wired it to the X-Bone to update the controller. EVEN THE CONTROLLER NEEDS UPDATING! I've never seen a system where every goddamn thing needs to be updated. I will say it worked great on Titanfall. Even my weak little headphones I used for Skyping came booming in.
Well, I'm about to go to work and I checked the mail and Dead Rising 3 and Battlefield 4 have arrived. I've been waiting for Dead Rising 3, but I won't be playing to today and maybe not this weekend because it has a 16GB update.
16GB. Sixteen. Just what the fuck is on that update?!
Apparently, MS thinks everyone has ridiculously high speed internet and can just download EVERYTHING to their 500GB system. Imagine how bad it would have been if they HAD gotten their way last year.
-
Well, I discovered an important thing today. The stupid X-Box one wants to install the update before the game instead of doing it in the background. So, I take myself out of X-Box LIVE and viola! It installs the disc first in 15 minutes and I'm able to start playing.
-
I do not like installs on consoles. Clearly the content they want to deliver requires a physical cassette based system.
-
So today, it decided it didn't want to play disc-based games, but Blu-Ray movies will work just fine. I look up troubleshooting and find out that you need to do some kind of powerloop thing every once in awhile by holding the power button on the system for ten seconds. Working fine now, but JESUS this is annoying!
