There's been various discussions in various topics about the current state of Sega and what happened if they did this or that or released a new system or in one case release a "super" system.
So the question is for this topic how do you think Segabits would do if they ran Sega? Collectively as the staff or any of the members here? What would you implement going forward from this year?
Lets try to be realistic though. Were not living in the nineties where Japanese video companies like Sega can exist by themselves, were living in a era where most of the major players have merged in order to exist. So selling Sammy is not an option ...we just have to look at Capcom to see games alone isn't enough to pour in the revenue enough to really sustain the company that size. Other than that what would you do...
I put up what i would do later..
-
Honestly, we would just argue indefinitely until the money ran out.
Otherwise, if we ran into something stable and got something similar to smooth sailing, I bet we'd probably keep the ship sailing as is and keep to the status quo, except we'd have a Shenmue HD collection released on PC and a new Virtua Fighter 'sometime in the future' along with the torrent of mobile games.
Apart from that Sega just seems to be making sense financially at the moment, even if it doesn't win many fans.
-
I would put select writers and forum members in charge of different IPs and genres, and have them all report to Sharky, George, and Myself. Sharky would oversee the UK, George and I would oversee US, and we'd have to find a person to oversee Japan.
Mademan, I'd put in charge of AM2 - specifically the fighting games
Will is our Miku expert
Aki could oversee localizing imports, with the assistance of Will and the Segalization guys
I think the key things that we could change is:
• Atlus USA manages SEGA of Japan imports - bringing PSO2, Yakuza, Miku, and Atlus titles over in special edition boxes
• SEGA of America, being the digital arm, would step it up with rereleases - bringing us Shenmue HD, Skies of Arcadia HD, and console titles like Valkyria Chronicles to PC. We'd also see a Sonic 3 & Knuckles remastered
• Physical content would be as it is now. Focus on profitable IPs, but give a new or returning IP a chance every now and then.
• More XBLA/PSN releases of arcade classics - Planet Harriers comes to mind
• More XBLA/PSN revivals of Genesis/Master system era IPs
Basically the return of 2010/2011:

Philosophically, I'd acknowledge that Sega is one international company, and that there is a niche/core of fans that are aware of what is going on in each territory. With the advent of the web, anything that SOJ does is known to fans in the West within a day whether or not Sega announces it. So, I'd embrace that. I'd establish a text-only localization facility that works to bring over titles that have a small but reliable fanbase in the West. And I'd do it in a way that makes fans feel involved. Let's say we budget a localization effort that brings over four titles per year. Three of them could be selected in-house, and the fourth could be selected via a series of polling events. Big titles like Yakuza and PSO2 should not only be localized, but released in sync in the West.
I'd have the website redesigned to be more similar content-wise to the Japanese site as well, with information about Sega's long history, and featured interviews with developers from all eras.
I'd establish a service model for ongoing access to the Sega back catalog, similar to EA's recently announced Netflix-style subscription but with more content spanning the entire console and arcade history, as well as selected recent titles. Charge a reasonable monthly or annual fee and let gamers have access to hundreds of games in a curated collection. Feature special events like weekly high score competitions to shine a spotlight on various older titles. Use some of the income from this subscription service model to fund the ongoing Sega Heritage HD update series.
There's still a market for consumers who would find Sega-branded hardware appealing, so I'd establish a hardware division that manufactures Steam Machines and configurable gaming PCs that have a high margin, perhaps in partnership with an established manufacturer like Dell/Alienware.
Part of the unifying of the company to operate as a whole would include establishing a pipeline to release home versions of arcade titles within a year of their arcade debut. Games like Border Break would be brought home with functionality and player character persistence that can transfer back and forth to the arcade, enhancing arcade revenues rather than undermining them.
I'd shut down all in-house marketing and hire established high-end marketing firms in each region to handle all PR campaigns.
I'd re-establish the uniquely branded internal development team model and place an emphasis on attracting new talent with smaller, more agile teams. New hires who are exceptional should be able to progress to leadership positions on development teams within 8 years.
Lastly, I'd personally take on consulting duties for the continuing series Outrun, Shenmue, and Jet Set Radio. :D
-
Mademan, I'd put in charge of AM2 - specifically the fighting games
VF on PC, and new Eternal Champions game. I'm going to need a budget of one gorillion dollars.
Actually wait, real idea here: I would make Eternal Champions a digital only release, and make it free to play. You can purchase costumes for all the characters seperately, and each week only four characters of the full roster are available and it rotates week to week.
To avoid it being 'pay to win' and alienating a large market, there is a 'Complete' pack available for the price of a normal retail/digital game that lets you use everyone all the time and comes with all the costumes. Also a pack that allows you to buy all the characters to unlock but no aesthetic changes.
Story mode can be a cheap purchase as well, but it should be ultra cheaply made with still art in a comic book style or something to progress the story.
-
To add to that Eternal Champions idea, I'd collaborate with a comic book company like DC or Marvel to release a promotional comic book on Free Comic Book day to promote the new game and to introduce people to the characters and world. :3
I'd play up the fact that it is free with slogans like "Free to Fight" or "Free for Eternity".

Here is what i would do...
Establish a Sega legends contract where people who were involved in Sega's past glory will be given a contract for life and help in the direction of re estabilshing the brand in the west or whenever area it needs to be.
Re organise the western digital divison.
Introduce an app for mobile phone systems that is based on various Sega systems. From Master system to DC. The idea is the app emulates the sega systems to a T.
Reach out to indie developers who are making games for the systems and for a very reasonable fee get them to release games for the DC app ,Sega CD app Megadrive app etc.
But the biggie is this. Get the Sega japan/west divison to start releasing new games for the various apps themselves.even games that was cancelled.
Release more Sega games for the PC in the west
Depending on the title release Sega games on the PC and make them available for the west and not just the PC users in japan.
Someone mentioned this but the netflix thing i would introduce as well but call it Segaflix or a new Sega channel similar to how the WWE does it with the user having a complete access to ALL sega games ever released(obviously not the electro mechanical games)
Redesign Sega.com
Bring all the various sega websites together..Sega arcade and sega.com and as already mentioned bring it in line to Sega japan's website. Also create a type of fan exchange where sega western fans can talk directly to sega japan fans and sometimes the developers as well. Oh yes sack everyone currently at sega.com.
Use Creative Assembly console department as a basis of a new western focus studio to grow out of. Where they will make mostly original IP that is closer to what they make in the west these days instead of stuff that isn't relavant to the western market.
Cut the red tape and make it easier to create a Sega game
Block the red tape that exists in sega now so developers with a particular idea can get a game greenlit easier.
Re estabilish the japanese western co development teams.
Effectivly an idea that a japanese developer has for a game but can't make in Sega, will be brought over to the west and guided by a few japanese staff with the idea the game is made in the west. And vice versa. This way both team/divisons will be more clued up in what style of game they can make for each market.
Gather a strong base of development studios for Second party games
So like Platinum for example approch talented studios for a contract to create a particular game or games that the players can get excited about and re engergise the Sega name.
Identify what game goes on what system
I would look at a game being designed by Sega or their second parties and decide if it should go multi platform or exclusive. This avoids putting any game on any system or a game in a genre where that system has too many games of that genre on there as opposed to a system where it doesn't. This way if the game is really strong it may be easier to estabilsh that game and its potential franchise on one system to the point where you could go multi platform down the line.
Second chance system
If a game is getting plaudits but didn't make too much money, the game should get another sequel and see if its able to build up its audience
Re estabilsh Sega characters so people can identify Sega other than sonic.
Effectivly make new updates on various Sega characters like TOE JAM AND EARL under a new deal with their creators, ECCO and other such character led games so you can promote the brand further with the younger side of the gaming audience and expand the brand name better.
Re estabilsh Sega with the older gamer...
Basically start making core Sega game again. Be it new original titles or updates of long forgotten series
Expansion of Sega brand in other media.
Start an aggressive focus of launching Sega ip in films or television. Any ip that is estabilshed should get made into a tv show or film depending on the game content. To do this i would basically set up a Sega Studios film company.
Using assets you already have to full effect.
Use the properties that anime studio TMS owns or other companies Sega owns and use them for future game content
Create or re organise a Sega store for the west where fans can purchase ALL merchandise japanese or western relating to Sega and their properties.
Create a Sega con
Create a convention focusing only on Sega for the fans. Call it SEGA CON and use it to bring legendary names from Sega's past or present to talk and interact with the fans. Use it as a place to present various tournaments to various games as well as being the place where people can play some new and older arcade games or console games. Also gradually start annoucing new games being made by Sega at the event.
-
To add to that Eternal Champions idea, I'd collaborate with a comic book company like DC or Marvel to release a promotional comic book on Free Comic Book day to promote the new game and to introduce people to the characters and world. :3
I'd play up the fact that it is free with slogans like "Free to Fight" or "Free for Eternity".
Yes that would be cool if they had the sense to do that.
-
Have Atlus USA handle the localizing of Japan's titles, like Barry said...
Establish an F2P army of games on Steam that not only includes PSO2, but Arcade titles that work in a similar fashion. RTS Card games, MOBA, 3rd person shooters, Action RPG's, they have lots of games like that.
I would definitely partner with a PC manufacturer to make a SEGA branded Steam Machine. SEGA fans want new hardware, Steam has a slew of SEGA titles, SEGA could easily create a Steam Machine that meets the needs of their games and release it with a few free games included. Either give it a sleek new design, or callback to the 90's era of machines.
You know how recent machines like the Ouya or the Moga controller heavily promote the inclusions of Sonic 4 episodes and Sonic CD?
Do the same cross-promotion with PSO2.
You know most suggestions here don't seem that outlandisch, which makes Sega's situation currently all the more aggravating.

Crack up the backporting of IP's as has been suggested. DOUBLE for Obscure Arcade IP's(Ocean hunter), release them digitally, use sales and potential cash infusions as a gauge of interest in any given IP.
Sell communities instead of just games. Don't just sell a new panzer dragoon, sell the soundtrack, sell an art book, sell T-shirts, backpacks ect....Make the absolute best use of an IP possible within reason. Most companies seem to underestimate the potential demand there is for merchandise.
Add a Subscription Option to PSO2. This needs to be done without otherwise altering the F2P components, everything stays as is, but allow those who formally subscribe to not deal with the already in place F2P limitations.
All Backported games SHOULD have a DRM free option, such as DotEmu(console releases on PC) or GOG(More PC dedicated releases). I grow tired of this trend of slightly updating decade year old games then chaining them behind a software wall(ergo Steamworks, I could care less about achievements and the like, I just want to play the game).
Explore post support longevity. It's inevitable that a game will simply become abandoned even with community support behind it in the console realm. Deals should be explored with private hosting companies about being able to lease or rent servers to players for a low cost after the game is deemed too costly or too old to support. Or at least look into attempting to bake listen server support for consoles.
PC games shouldn't have this issue, as dedicated server software(ala Quake, Unreal ect...) should be provided even if most games these days don't.
That's about all I got.

Basically your asking what would you do for SEGA?
1. Allow SEGA of Europe to make an all in one console that is superior to the Dreamcast ( which SEGA can do ). I say Europe, because they seem to want to bring back Dreamcast. Just make it Region free, and dev-free. No TOS agreements. No Vimeo or X-box live.
3. Have an Wireless division but do not ever make it better then anything released on the official SEGA consoles.
4. Release an Auyo system in China, with only Chinese languages. Why China? Because they do not have the purchasing power for such games. However people from all around the globe can purchase the system but it stays in Chinese. You have to buy a translated account.
5. Make a pre-paid ( highway robbery ) card system. So people can purchase things with the points they have. Meaning differny managed accounts but one system ( as with PSO ).
6. Remove the loud speaker from PSO2 .
7. About Sammy. Make series ( IP, Franchise ) based machines, and release them around the globe.
8. Make machines that interacts with games. Like memory card based.
9. Make new series ( like Bayonetta ) on non-SEGA consoles, but port them later to official SEGA consoles and make them better. Basically hoar out the SEGA name to make some bucks on non-SEGA systems.
10. Include games for previous SEGA systems, including the Dreamcast.
11. Release at least one new game for each original SEGA series. on an official SEGA console or Nintendo-etc. It does not have to be the greatest game.
Seriously SONY and Microsoft are garbage to be honest.
12. Allow free games and free portable gaming for military around the world. Not just the US army. All military personal gets access to free new SEGA games, WHILE IN SERVICE.

As soon i read this i stopped with the whole post...
Sorry if i offense you but you are thinking with your heart and no with your brain in my opinion.

ROJM and TA would be the CEO's of SEGA West. They would have to collaborate everyday and agree on solutions to make SEGA West successful.
Aki would be the finances person.
Barry would be a newly created position called Fansite Relations.
thats all i can think of at the moment.

You just decide to take your time to insult and slander me because you was probably reading my other post. Wanted to join the band wagon and used this opportunity to verbal abuse me. Eitherway nobody here is logical in charge of SEGA. That is their decision alone to bring a new console along.
I am not talking about making an upgrade. I am talking about a new system all together. No DLC however. Just sell them in stores and save the DLC/Auyugah for China.
-
As far as my own interests are concerned, XSEED a month or two ago had a job posting for a "Localization Editor" mentioned in a NeoGAF thread. Reading about it sounded awesome. Stuff like that or analyzing game mechanics are things that I find fun personally. As much as I like dissecting game ideas or design things, I also find the idea of collaborating on those things fun, though I'm not in the position to do so cause I don't really have any skills =P. There are some elements of being a producer that sound fun and other elements that sound extreme snoresville.
If I were in a management position I would be half tempted to like, run Sega into the ground with greenlighting all of the projects I want...maybe not seriously, but distant management isn't something I'm really interested in. In any case it would not be possible for all of us to determine the direction of the company anyway, it wouldn't be functional.
I love reading your ideas. Especially Will's suggestion that ROJM and TA work together everyday.
edit: I wonder what Kori-Maru would be interested in?
-

George or Barry ought to run human relations. The directive would be to get new blood into the company. Sega used to be a breeding ground for talent; now it's a barren tomb. Convincing new blood to come into the company from the top computer and art schools in NY, London and Tokyo with higher pay, more creative freedom and strong incentives for winning awards. Loosen up deadlines. If a game needs to be delayed, it's delayed. That only serves to build hype, anyway.
I'd give Joe digital operations. Again, beef it up. Creative Assembly Australia shouldn't have been axed; they should have been given Aladdin next. A studio or two dedicated to "re-imaginings" of classic Sega games (a completely revamped Daytona for instance), ports of DC/Saturn games and "art-house" digital games - the sort of thing like Rez or Segaga that just didn't have a market in 2001. These would be your "Sega DNA" studios.
I'd hand Sonic Team over to Sharky. I imagine he would let them take a break from Sonic long enough to freshen up and get it right and he would let them make new and exciting IP.
I would let Team Andromeda build a new Away Team. They would have a mandate to design game engines to be licensed out to the rest of the industry, to pioneer new tech within Sega (how to handle 3-D gaming, Occulus Rift, holograms) etc. It would be his job to make sure Sega was doing shit first. It'd be a money pit.
I would give advertising to Kogen. It'd be fresh, offensive and memorable. Sega would definitely have a reputation for being mavericky with him at the helm. He would likewise be the spokesman for Sega West at things like E3. Reggie became an icon for swearing once in a presentation. Imagine the press if Kogen turned the Sega booth into a bordello. Also, bring back the Sega scream.
I would give AM-2 to MadeMan. No explanation needed.
I would let Aki save my version of Sega from bankruptcy. Perhaps the hardest challenge of all.

When you put super passionate people together and force them to come up with something it's usually something quite good. No doubt there would be a ton of arguing though. Probably break any world records for most heated board room fights judging by how things here on the forums go :)

If we ran SEGA, I would have Barry become the President of SEGA of America, Sharky as the head of SEGA Europe, and George in charge of SOJ. Will could be the next Aaron Webber along with his awesome web design skills. I would like to be in charge of bringing back classic games with new features as Yosuke Okunari does with the SEGA Ages line ups. Aki would definitely would fit as our financial guy.
Anywho, if I would to work at SEGA I would agree with everyone on this forum that the SEGA site and forums needs another make over. Adding a history section of the company and more franchise brands would be a nice addition to the site. Advertisement is a must to be as good as SOJ's and community managers to stream their titles once a week. Both old and new titles and play online with the gaming community.
As for arcades in Japan, if we were to develop a new House of the Dead title or Virtua Fighter 6. I would like to have mobile phone app to save data from arcade games to keep track of your character, score, and spending points for customization. Imagine having a A.M.S ID displayed on your phone keeping track of the highest score across Japan.
Knowing me, I would have Sakura Wars 1-4 localized, Fighters Megamix in HD with online features, and last but not least develop a new All-Stars sequel with popular SEGA characters from Western and Japanese regions.
Another note I want to add that after my experience helping Aaron Webber with the Sonic panel at MomoCon and working with the fellow SEGAbits staff setting up a panel in front of a huge crowd at TooManyGames (I believe our panel was almost as big as AVGN's panel.) I kinda had how do you say? A taste of how it feels to work for SEGA and it felt so damn good.

Barry he was not making any sense to begin with. ROJM just kept shooting down my statements without any proof at all. I am "done" unless ROJM, could make some logical sense or show proof for his anti-Neo-Saturn-era stuff.
Biggest laugh i've had all morning...you haven't backed your stuff with anything at all. You were done because Barry warned us to stop. You weren't done because you managed to beat me because you simply can't and.. you know it. Stop wasting our time. Either get with the program and STICK to the topics at hand or don't bother replying to things when you have no intent on talking about the subject or related subject at hand.
Again, i am sorry if my comment offense you, but let me tell you something, yes, i had read your previous comments in the whole forum and you have a very weird way to express yourself, i dont know if it is lke this in person or only when you are writing, or it is because you have problems with the english if this is not your mother language like me, but you say a lot of nonsense and i am not the only one who think this. HEAR HEAR. I second that..even third it. All he's been doing since he's got here is derail the thread with nonsense that's got nothing to do with Sega or videogames in general.
-
I'd give Joe digital operations
You would put me in charge of the thing i hate the most? Thanks :)) JB.

If we ran SEGA, I would have Barry become the President of SEGA of America
Wait, so i'm in charge of SEGA of America? Promotions for Kellie and Julian! Yes, I play favorites.

Yeah I think if me and ROJM was employees it would be something like what happen at SGI during the transition to the N64 years. Two grown men arguing like five year olds.
Seriously you trailed my post from another thread; to insult me.
-
You would put me in charge of the thing i hate the most? Thanks :)) JB.
Seems rational to me. You'd hate it so much you'd make it into something fantastic.
Besides, digital is the only plausible way for a lot of franchises to come back in any meaningful way. You have an encyclopedic knowledge of Sega's past games, so you'd be ideal.
-
Everyone putting me in charge of AM-2.

1. Allow SEGA of Europe to make an all in one console that is superior to the Dreamcast ( which SEGA can do ).
I'm sure Sega can make a console superior to 15 year old technology.
I think my toaster may have superior hardware.
-
Seriously you trailed my post from another thread; to insult me.
Then seriously you should think about what you say when you post on a topic or you won't get into these situations.
Now think twice before you even bother to reply.

Not really because it would prosper if you have a passion for the thing you doing..i don't have a passion for digital..but thanx for the recommendation!
Anyway the digital thing is easy...
Continue with the remakes of old Genesis titles...
Create sega console apps and release most of the games for those consoles including titles made by indie developers in the last decade and create new games from Sega on those systems.
That would also mean rlease and make new FMV games since mobile is perfect for that type of game...
Console digital download
Release either update, sequels or revisions of classic games like the creativeassembly/sega studios australia was doing with network play and community support...that includes that proposed sequel of GUARDIAN HEROES that Treasure wanted to make.
Create a reason why you have to buy these games oneach platform make them unique to each platform instead of being just the same title with nothing new to offer.
-
Fuck it, i'd be in charge of everything, just watch everything burn around me.
I'd like to tackle marketing. Start some crazy 90's Campaign and just start insulting everyone..
Seriously though, i'd take on the Operations me thinks. Distribution/Freight stuff like that.
-

I would love to see that come back.

I would let Team Andromeda build a new Away Team.
I'm happy in my work thanks and tbh looking over all the fantasies and all that . There's just a few simple moves that Sammy/SEGA could make that would make a world of difference and get back some of the old SEGA Magic and it wouldn't cost billions too, yes I know there's issues with markets and getting MS and SONY to approve and license your games and of course it does also depend if the staff are up to the job also
Some of the moves I would do would be as follows .....
Get Border Break on the next gen consoles with better graphics and also having a consumer Team working on single player extra's and mode
PSO II on the next gen consoles - Yes they'll be no cross play and all that . But the game is brilliant as it is and there's a gap in the next gen console market for this type of game and well AAA games anyway
Power Drift II - For the Arcades 1st and then have an eye to bring it to the home . AM#2 showed they can update a classic with Out Run II and AB Climax . There's a gap in both the Arcade and home markets for a fun simple Arcade racer that' s just fun to play . Wouldn't want to see weapons brought into the game, but it be nice to see 'set pieces' with the environments being brought in
Get AM#2 on the Job with next gen graphics , new stomach churning courses and all the classic courses too . Not sure if people would pay full price for a home version , but maybe SEGA could put it up on XBLA/PSN
Binary Domain II - Just built on the stunning 1st game , but now flesh out the multi player and put in a On-Line Co mode for 4 players and this time give the game a bit of a push .
Sonic Next Gen - I think the next Sonic game is going to be good, but it needs to be truly multi platform not just on the next gen , but PC and 360 and PS3 too (handle by the likes of Sumo).
Yakuza Next - 1st of the Team to have at least 2 years to make the title and now for the game to take place outside of Japan and take part in an American city use films like Black Rain Ect and make a real dark hard hitting game and for it to be muti and also made with a eye to the west - Try and make it break out of Japan and get some sales and make it into a million selling IP .
SEGA Rally Collection - Every SEGA Rally game (Arcade and all ) for XBLA and PSN. Also I would love to see the DC version be updated to Model 3 graphics (so there is no difference) as part of the Port with full on-Line rankings , download replays and so on .
Even today SR II is one of the best 2 player Rally games ever made . It also be a test to see if gamers are ready for SEGA Japan to make a new Rally game
There's just a few simple moves that wouldn't make or break SEGA or really hurts Sammy dosh , but would bring some of the magic back imo
-
That's just games...were talking about what you would do in the company structure...
-

No idea on that . All I know SEGA Japan name with most gamers isn't that great or even with SEGA fan's . So they need to up their game and makes some moves to help get their name back and also please its own fans .
They don't need to make Shenmue III , Saga II or SOA II (as nice as they would be ) Just make some small moves and start to show some of the old magic and that show they want to please the SEGA fans - Those small moves alone would make a world of difference .
SEGA Japan have given little for its fans to cheer on the console of late and even the most Die-Hard SEGA fan would know and see that

? Unless you're fluent in Japanese then Yakuza 5 or the new one will mean little . VF 5 and HOTD are Lindberg ports that are years old . Namco have already shown off Tekken 7 we've seen nothing from SEGA for VF 6 yet and even in Japan Tekken Tag 2 has taken some sales away from VF 5 and Binary Domain is a IP that SEGA its self done little to push, much less make plans to grow the IP
There's hardly anything of note from SEGA Japan . Remember the days when SEGA Japan used to make the likes of these on a yearly basis

Sad....trailers for SEGA XBox games is better than most of what comes from SEGA Japan these days :(

I agree with Andromeda, we need more Sega games. Even if we do receive certain games from them, when we do receive them, hardly any marketing goes towards selling them. Then they wonder why their games tank and refuse to release or localize new ones here in the States.
I'm sorry, but supporting Nintendo with Sonic Boom and Lost World was a bad idea. Why would you give Nintendo exclusivity when their console is dead and 3rd party games hardly sell on their consoles?
-
I don't know what is going on right here, but something is for sure: They tried to do exactly what you are claiming and they failed. Even with marketing and publicity in every single magazine at that time.
I'm not sure is people trying to forget that even with ports of Nights and JSR, which they are supposedly "cult games" that everyone supported back in the day and now, people didn't buy those games. Even with facebook campaings , PR videos, PS+ and Live special prices, etc. Only SA2.
And you will say that is because poor marketing or people already have the game, come on...if you want something from an especific thing, make sure that you supported the most essential thing: buy the stuff. This is how it works IMO. Poor marketing isn't even an excuse anymore when you will find mostly anything with the internet and social networks.
Please, Sega isn't a "Capcom Ride" where they publish a tons of sequels, ports, re-release with high R&D but low, very low earnings even with good sales and pushing forward every single IP with a little but dangerous sucess. Megaman is an example or pushing forward every single idea and game but also generating more negatives than positives .

I agree that we need more SEGA games but lets be fair, sometimes is the fans responsability to show some support. Can we please stop blaiming the companies for everything? (I am talking in general), sometimes is not only a poor marketing work (Because yeah we fans know A LOT about how marketing works...) or it is because the game takes to long to get localize, sometimes is that stupid phrase "If it is not retail and in my mother lenguage (Despite i know english...) i will not buy it" or that other one "50$ for a game! (Despite is a AAA title) are you crazy!? go to hell! i will buy it when it gets a discount" which obviously it doesnt help that much to the company... or my favorite "This game is a piece of shit! dont buy it! (The guy never play it and he is saying this...) and then the studio that developed have to suffer just because of what a group of idiots said or because a bad gaming website said in a totally unobjective review...
I had said this before, sometimes the companies make mistakes and sometimes the fans does, in this industry there are two parts, the consumers and the companies and if we want things to work out we have to work together, for example i never heard that much of support to the yakuza franchise until we know that yakuza 5 would not be localize, and now ALL THE GAMERS want it?, cmon...
Another example is the resident evil remake HD that just got announced, you want a surviver horror game, that remake was never avalible for a non nintendo consoles so in my opinion not everybody have it, (I know people that they didnt even know that a remake of RE1 was made...) the game is true surviver horror like "everybody" wants and now... you are complaining...
This are just a few examples, i had seen this bullshit A LOT of times, games that i really liked and i never get a sequel because what a group of idiots said and at this point a know that this will never stop, so why bother... after all is much easy to blame the others...

All that is a failing of the company/industry though.
If the market no longer wants to pay $50 a game, then guess what? $50 is too much for a game. A product is only worth what people are willing to pay for it.
Ditto with 'This game looks shit'. If game companies are too paranoid to put out demos, then we'll have to judge the game based on trailers and gameplay footage/word of mouth etc. If they don't do a good job making the game look good, guess what? People aren't going to want to buy it.
As for not being retail and in my mother language, I'm not about to drop full price for a game I can't even understand, why would I be expected to buy a game I can't even play properly because it's not translated? I might consider getting Yakuza 5 at some point on import, but I'll have to download guides to understand what I'm doing and I'll be missing out on the story, so yeah, I'll probably wait or get it cheap.

Yakuza 2 and 3 had support and hype. It might just be that the fans are vocal again because they need to be since it's not getting translated.
As for Resident Evil, I've said it in the other topic. It's a survival horror game yes, one that came out seven years ago on Wii, five years before that on Gamecube and then even longer ago the original came out on PS1 and Saturn. Survival Horror fans have already played it, we'll probably still re-buy it, but it's a re-re-release. Not to mention there are some issues with how they are handling the 'HD' update (colours affecting the shadows etc) I believe.
I also want to point out that I'm NOT complaining about this, I would love more games to be re-released on PC, since it's my favourite platform to use and has the best 'back compatibility' of any gaming device in existence. I would love Sega to release Vanquish, VF, Bayonetta, and every other game they make on PC, even if it was just straight ports.
Yes fans can be wrong, it happens all the time, but they are wrong because they haven't been educated by the creators, or the creators haven't addressed what the fans wanted.

Demos really hurt more than trailers or publicity. A famous case was RE6 which, likes asides, people realize that the game is "going to be a shooter" evenif the demo represents a part that only happen 2 times in the game per campaign.
As for not being retail and in my mother language....
He was talking about cases with foreign languages like french or german. For ex. Phoenix Wright Trilogy is only in English but in all the West territories and in Spain ,fans proclaimed that if the game aren't to be released in Spanish, they won't buy it, even if mostly all the games from that franchise are already published and many in Spanish, counting that this franchise is in a limbo in the West.
Yakuza 2 and 3 had support and hype.
90k LTS for the first and 380k LTS for the last with a soft FW sales each don't tell me about the support and hype. Improvement yes but for the 4 is less that expected.
It's a survival horror game yes, one that came out seven years ago on Wii, five years before that on Gamecube and then even longer ago the original came out on PS1 and Saturn. If I tell you that Revelations (which many fans proclaimed as a step forward of reintroducing the survival horror in the franchise) sells less than Operation Raccon City...guess what is gonna happen with the problem you have tell us with this next re-re-release.
I also want to point out that I'm NOT complaining about this, I would love more games to be re-released on PC, since it's my favourite platform to use and has the best 'back compatibility' of any gaming device in existence. Yes, but I can't have this games if it means that Sega needs to lost a ton of money for that because the demand was too weak or economically poor in sales.
Yes fans can be wrong, it happens all the time, but they are wrong because they haven't been educated by the creators, or the creators haven't addressed what the fans wanted.
I don't know that I need to educated by the creator of the game I like :/
Also sure I need to give a lesson to the creator about making games that I like even if I didn't study or know progamming. Sure, they can give me some fanservice but that's nothing new and it differs from fan to fan.

Thank you. I'm glad some people aren't fooled by TA's desperate attempts to get brownie points after being whipped good by a few forum members in a recent debate.
Let's look at the reality huh..
If you look at how TA is demanding great sega games you'd think sega had ALWAYS produced the games people wanted on a regular basis.
Well no they didn't. If we look at the console divison and look at the years after the Megadrive to the DC...there was only a HANDFUL of sega games on the saturn that were any good and people wanterd to play. Acting like this is the worse period of sega gaming when we have just seen one of the best line ups any game publisher has had in the last several years is poppycock.
And before we bring up japan..not many western sega fans are intrested in playing heavy japancentric games To many sega fans the saturn was the WORST period odf sega gaming you can get for a console.
I compare that period to their third party period. Similar that there's only been a handful of bonafide sega games released that people had wanted to play from sega themselves. Unlike that period however we have had a proper Sonic title something that the saturn was unable to give out, a bonafide version of SHINOBI another thing that the saturn never gave us(and i like SHINOBI LEGIONS) among other things.
Also notice that the best Sega games he's using are ALL exclusive titles. Make no mistake the best Sega games since sega has been a third party have been titles that have remained on one platform. Like it or not Sega strength has always been as a one platform developer. That is what they were schooled in for years and that's what they still good at. ORTA, YAKUZA, VALKRIA and SONIC COLORS were the best of the bunch from sega with amazing visuals and good round game play. While BD another game i like just looked visually unappealing.
Regardless Sega great games come in bursts...never in a long succsion of grat game after great game. That has always ben the case. The MD and the DC are beloved by sega fans because they happened to have the great bursts of sega gaming that we all experienced. The saturn definatly didn't. And the master system surely didn't when you take the great games sega had in the arcades at that time it weren't that many.
So let's stop living in a fantasy and start looking at the reality.
This are just a few examples, i had seen this bullshit A LOT of times, games that i really liked and i never get a sequel because what a group of idiots said and at this point a know that this will never stop, so why bother... after all is much easy to blame the others...
I said the same thing in another forum where me Sharky and TA use to frequent. They kept saying sega sucks and were not getting the games we want. When sega releases the game they want..guess what? They didn't buy it. And that's been the pattern for all these haters that keep blowing sega. Sega SAID in a magazine interview concerning ORTA that if that game made its budget back then a RPG version might be in the works...guess what..not many people brought it. And then they have the audacity to complain about sega releasing games they don't want because they didn't buy the games they said they wanted to play.
Of course it didn't stop some people around here to start spinning the fact that sega did well on the xbox when they never did and then wonder why sega couldn't be bothered to support the 360 properly.
The sad reality is there isn't that many sega gamers around anymore. Each succesive system from the MD the audience shrank. And the audience just went after DC. Were assuming that people who were sega gamers just kept playing games. Well they obviously didn't. Most of them quit. If you were a sega gamer and used to buying sega systems only and then found out sega was not only going to support your system but pull out of consoles altogether..to many that would have been the last straw especially from what happened with the saturn.
The reason why Sega DNA games don't do well is because there is not enough sega fans to support them.
Sega duid not maintain the community of sega gamers it had managed to build over the years. Many of them stopped playing games or stuck to arcades with all the console failures and definatly a big core group didn't return to gaming after DC. Since then all sega has been doing is building fans of individual game IP. Sonic is a good example. Most people who buy into sonic aren't necessarly fans of sega or would purchase a sega game. The same goes for anyone playing TOTAL WAR or FOOTBALL MANAGER. The majority may not buy another sega product. The same happens in japan with other titles like VIRTUA FIGHTER to SHINING FORCE. Sega is good at getting a mas audience for individual games but they haven't built that audience to get t hem to become SEGA gamers. So you have a werid situation where people are buying certain franchises in doses but wouldn't buy a core Sega game. So while KINGDOM CONQUEST makes plenty of moolah..none of those guys would buy VALYKRIA in their droves. Its prehaps the reason why PHANTASY STAR is so far away from its sega core roots and found a footing with people into social gaming that would buy it in spades.
So unless sega can get these did when they only had one system..the type of sega games we want won't be made any more or turn into something different...
-
Well no they didn't. If we look at the console divison and look at the years after the Megadrive to the DC...there was only a HANDFUL of sega games on the saturn that were any good and people wanterd to play

No its not. Again those are titles that is a handful compared to the games i can list for both MD and DC. And not everyone is going to import a game from japan, which is a point you keep missing. To the average sega fan the saturn years was pure hell because there weren't that many games coming out on a regular basis. All those games listed came out during a four year period. The DC beat that within two.
So keep living this fantasy that SOJ saturn period was a golden period for saturn owners in the west when it clearly wasn't.

Not in the west they weren't.And really half those games are subjective when it comes to be considered classics. 5 of those titles are arcade titles. Not original saturn software. Some of them are debatable of being considered classics by many sega fans. And most of the titles released for saturn didn't make it out of japan thanks to stolar and SOJ. So again a dire period for any console owning sega fan.
Again you hijack the topic..never really answer the things adressed to you or what the topic is actually about, all to impress people who don't know much about sega in general.

Can I apologise to TA from my earlier comment about his formatting in posts? This forum is horrible for multi-quoting and breaking up quotes it seems. It ends up with lots of orphan 'size' and 'font' tags.
I was referring about the fact that many people talk bad about a game they hadnt even play, not even a demo, people who said shit about something just because they want.
I find that people generally don't shit-talk games unless there is something that they don't like about it, regardless of what it is. Are you thinking of some specific examples?
About the lenguage i think that a game should be translate to your language but if is not and you know others languages (Like me who can speak spanish and english) i dont think is a big sacrifice to buy a game like that just to show your support to the franchise. Nevertheless i agree that if you are not geting a game in the way you want is ok to buy it cheap.
If you are bilingual then more power to you, and it's a great talent to have. If you can enjoy games in other languages, then by all means it's a good idea to buy them on import. At the same time, most people don't have that ability and can't do the same. My enjoyment of Yakuza 5 would be a fraction of what it would be if I could play it in English for example.
If you said so
In terms of 'support from fans' we can only really throw around anecdotal evidence. I just do remember people talking and getting excited about 2 and 3 on forums as much as Yakuza 5.
I am not sure about the fact that survival horror fans had already play it because it is a remake from 12 years ago and the only port since then was on the wii. I think that there is an entire generation of gamers who dont know nothing about it and would like to play it for the first time in the new consoles. I dont know nothing abut some issues with the HD.
I would imagine most survival horror fans have played, in some form or another, the single most iconic game in the franchise and (in the case of REmake) probably the most highly regarded game in the Resident Evil series. It's been released in 2009, 2002, then prior to that it was released in 1996 on PlayStation and later on Saturn and PC. It's by no means a hard game to acquire.
I'm sure there are people who have never played it, but I also don't think it's the same as brand-new game.
I know you are not complaining about this, what you are saying is not a complain is just your opinion and i also would like to see more ports from SEGA or any others companies release to PC.
It would be wonderful, Vanquish and Bayonetta on PC would make me wet my pants.
I think it depends there are some young fans that have to be educated but there is also a group of old fans that just didnt want to attend to class if you know what i mean...
I know what you mean. I also mean in broader terms that until we purchase a game, we are really at the mercy of what the publisher allows us to see, and how the media reports on the game. When fans complain about something, it's usually for a reason.
This leads to two possible scenarios:
1) We have a legitimate complaint, and there's something we don't like about the game
2) We have seen something we don't like that may not actually represent the finished product, but we can only go off what we have seen.
In the case of number 2 it's because the game hasn't been presented to us in the right way.
I hope I'm making sense :/
Guess why games with F2P model starting to make profits even is a person invested more than 50$.
In the 90's, a game could cost 70$, without considering inflation. So, yeah...too much for a game this days.
Not sure what you are getting at here. If it's that people are willing to spend more than $50 on a game, then I agree with you. I was throwing out an arbitrary number with that example, and talking about market trends more than anything.
You can see it happened in Australia, when 360 and PS3 launched, new games were RRP of $120. By 2011, AAA games were starting to release for $79 brand new (Batman Arkham City was the first I can think of).
Look at the PC digital market and how discounts dictate the sales trends so highly.
Free to Play models are difficult to gauge, Some people spend their life savings on Candy Crush, but how many play it and don't spend a cent?
Demos really hurt more than trailers or publicity. A famous case was RE6 which, likes asides, people realize that the game is "going to be a shooter" evenif the demo represents a part that only happen 2 times in the game per campaign.
That is entirely the fault of the publisher for releasing a bad demo, or one that doesn't represent the final product well. I used to buy countless games based on the strength of the demo alone. Most of my PC purchases in the late 90s and early 00s were based on demo discs from Magazines for example.
Demos can be a powerful tool if used correctly, and now gamers can't really experience a game unless they buy it. Until then we rely on media and what the publishers tell us, hence their duty to 'educate' us correctly if they don't want us to be negative.
Apologies if I misunderstood. Again though, I think it's fair to ask that a game be in your language before you wish to purchase it. Whether or not the publisher feels that particular market is worth the cost of translation is another matter. Same as the consumer deciding if it's worth them purchasing the game if they need to play it in another language.
90k LTS for the first and 380k LTS for the last with a soft FW sales each don't tell me about the support and hype. Improvement yes but for the 4 is less that expected.
That doesn't really reflect the fans themselves. I don't know how many Yakuza fans are out there, but they might well have bought the game. I know I bought Yakuza Dead Souls (urgh) and 4 on launch. I couldn't buy 3 on launch because I did not own a PS3 until later.
Low sales figures don't mean that the FANS didn't buy the game, just that the game didn't perform with the greater audience.
If I tell you that Revelations (which many fans proclaimed as a step forward of reintroducing the survival horror in the franchise) sells less than Operation Raccon City...guess what is gonna happen with the problem you have tell us with this next re-re-release.
It was originally a 3DS exclusive (early in the system's life) compared to a PS3, 360 and PC release late in the generation.
It did get ported to 360,PC and PS3 over a year later though (and I bought it on PC), admittedly.
Again not sure what point you are trying to make here, that it's a sign that Survival Horror isn't as popular as shooting games? I'm not disputing that.
Yes, but I can't have this games if it means that Sega needs to lost a ton of money for that because the demand was too weak or economically poor in sales.
Again not sure what you are trying to say, sorry.
I don't know that I need to educated by the creator of the game I like :/
Let's say I'm releasing a game.
How do you know you'll like the game if I don't give you any information and educate you on what the game is like? Especially if I don't give you a demo, and control all the information and media that is released about the game. I need to make sure that I show the game in a positive light and give you reasons to want it.
Also sure I need to give a lesson to the creator about making games that I like even if I didn't study or know progamming. Sure, they can give me some fanservice but that's nothing new and it differs from fan to fan.
Again, I'm not talking about telling the developers how to make a game, but it's about you not having to like what they put out if you don't like it. They can't just say 'YOU ASKED FOR THIS' when the game actually turns out to be poor and be exempt from criticism.
Look at Sonic 4 for example.
-
its got the worst reputation from gamers and sega fans.
That's just the typical ones who never owned the system or bought just a handful of games for the system . Much like the ones who think the Mega CD was pants and the only good games were Sonic, Thunder Hawk and Final Fight . It never helped that the Saturn didn't do well in the USA so like the Master System, Zx Spectrum and a host of other systems that didn't do great in the USA a lot of American's don't hold the system in great light.
Were not talking about JAPAN but what came over for the west.
There were great games from the West on the Saturn - I'll happily list you loads if I must ...
you admit it finally
Nice try but if you were a fan , one would know the Saturn most of the Saturn best titles all came with a 2 year span of each other from SEGA Japan
Not in the west they weren't.And really half those games are subjective when it comes to be considered classics.
Every game is subjective . And I'm sorry even in the West the likes of Nights, Athlete Kings, VC, VF II, SEGA Rally, Astal, WWS 97, WSB II, Clockwork Knight II, Panzer Dragoon Zwei all came in out in a 2 year life span after the Saturn 1st launched inthe West .
And most of the titles released for saturn didn't make it out of japan thanks to stolar and SOJ.
Nothing at all to do with SOJ. SEGA America signs up the games and pays SOJ for the games it like to bring over to the West . And every game in that list was brought over , it be an even more impressive list if one starts to list the likes of Dragon Force II, Blue Seed, WachenRoder, Sakura Wars and so on

Nope that's from EVERYONE who brought the system in the west.

No there wasn't. And don't spin the american line on me. The Master system had great titles in spades. As did the MCD. The saturn however didn't across all western markets. But lets name a few shall we? Great games ..Oh you mean SHINING FORCE 3 which didn't get localised and translated after the first game? Or the missing SAKURA TAISEN titles that never made it out? Oh yes great example of solid saturn gaming for the west..

Again were talking about the west. And as far as the west is concerned the saturn failed big time. You know it. Stop trying to rewrite history and go on about games that most people here would not have heard of let alone PLAYED. And that's to do with people who had the system.
And really? You're listing ATHLETE KINGS as a pinnacle of great software? Don't make me laugh puh leeze. WWS and WWS2 weren't games that people consider great Saturn games let alone great Sega games. Again the desperation prevails.
There's no coincidence that the MD and DC are fondly remembered systems from sega fans across the board than the saturn is. But of course keep saying everyone isn't a fan because you like it and no one else didn't. Keep saying the VMU is rubbish and spinning that every sega fan hated it when that isn't true. Keep spinning that the Saturn produced tons of classics when the classics can be counted on one hand. Keep spinning and lying. You just make yourself even more silly than you already have...
-
But I personally loved Athlete Kings :(
-
I've never even heard of Athlete Kings.
Okay, as a huge 90's Sega fan, i didn't even pick up a Saturn when it was released, you know why? Cause the software just wasn't there. So i opted for a Playstation instead, which had tons of great exclusives that made it out West.
Saturn had a few great titles, but nothing that warranted that $399 price tag. It wasn't until years later that i finally went back and purchased one, along with a few titles like Nights, Albert Odyssey, Bug, etc. Sega of Japan dropped the ball on the Saturn hard and quite honestly i already had a Sega CD so i didn't have any intention of paying more for a console that was on it's way down hill. I gave Sega another chance after the Saturn though and bought a DC day 1 here in the States and we all know how that turned out..
-
I've never even heard of Athlete Kings.
Then you are not a TRUE SEGA FAN NERD.
END OF.
Just kidding... but you should check it out. It's quite fun.

Fun maybe but not one of the all time greats. CLOCKWORK KNIGHT wasn't even considered a great game in its day and it still isn't and i ADORE that game. I can definatly say that the saturn era was Sega's quiet period and that's a shame because there was some grerat games made. But when you compare what SOJ did for arcade and DC in the DC era the Saturn software doesn't compare.

Yes SEGA AM#3 at their best . The best track and Field game one could play at the time , with bags of humor and classic SEGA touches on each of the Characters . Then also running at 60 fps and 704X480 . A stunner of a game and that was reflected in the reviews
As did the MCD. The saturn however didn't across all western markets.

I find that people generally don't shit-talk games unless there is something that they don't like about it, regardless of what it is. Are you thinking of some specific examples?
For example when the logo of resident evil 6 came out many people was already saying bad things about the game without even seen a screenshot, and they did this because they didnt like resident evil 5. The people i am talking about are the ones that think like this "I didnt like your previous game so when you released another one i will say bad things about it".
Now you can say that this kind of people dont exist but in my opinion yes they are unfortunately and i believe that the fact that you didnt like a game doesnt mean you have to talk bad things about the next one without knowing nothing about it.

Now I'm going to enter into this argument a bit cautiously, because the Saturn is very near and dear to my heart.
However, it is very commonly recognized by just about anyone you care to ask, that as far as the west is concerned, Sega dropped the ball big time from 1995 - 1999. There were some fantastic games made during this time period (not least were those made by your namesake), but on the whole, it was a very disappointing time. The quality of the games were fine, but the quantity was awful. Sega had how many releases in 1998 for the Saturn? Five? Six?
Winter Heat 1998, House of the Dead, Burning Rangers, Deep Fear (not in America), Rayearth, Shining Force, Panzer Dragoon...that's all I can think of.
And Sega went over a year (Summer 1998 - Sept 1999) without releasing anything AT ALL in the west that I can remember.
Many of the titles in your list aren't Sega games, either. I thought this argument was about whether Sega's state today (keeping some of the best software exclusive to Japan) is comparable to Sega in the Saturn years. How does Command & Conquer or Duke Nukem help your case?
-

You mean like Alien Colonial Marines, except that actually turned out to be complete shit. In some cases word of mouth and reviews can definitely be accurate means of criticism.
-
Yes i mean like that. I understand if you are sketical about the next game but start with the wave of shit without even knowing anything yet?, i think thats just to much.
-
However, it is very commonly recognized by just about anyone you care to ask, that as far as the west is concerned, Sega dropped the ball big time from 1995 - 1999
The Saturn and Mega CD are my 2 fav consoles of all time and sure SEGA may have dropped the ball but the consumer and Arcade teams continued to pump out the classics . For many SEGA were dead before the DC came out and if you were a DC owner in Europe you got a crap end of the deal - not being able to enter your own ISP details (until the DC was dead) half the games not having their on-line modes cut out and so on, In Europe and Japan SEGA dropped the ball again with its Hardware, but the consumer teams still made the classics
Sega had how many releases in 1998 for the Saturn? Five? Six?
That's not being fair at all . How many In-House games did Nintendo have in 1996 for the Snes when N64 was getting to ship, how many In-House games did MS have in 2005 for the X-Box when the 360 was getting ready to ship , same for the Cube when the Wii was getting to ship, same for the Wii, when the Wii U was getting ready to ship .
Winter Heat 1998, House of the Dead, Burning Rangers, Deep Fear (not in America), Rayearth, Shining Force, Panzer Dragoon...that's all I can think of
Far more than what Nintendo or MS made for the Wii before the Wii U or what MS made for the XBox before the 360, more that what MS made for the 360 before the XBone One shipped . Also that's just the USA/UK list in Japan SEGA also brought out the likes of Shinning Force III Pt 2 and III, Wachenroder (one of the most stunning RPG's around) .
Lets be fair about this now ....
Many of the titles in your list aren't Sega games, either.
In my 1st list it is and if one looks at MS 360 line up , its dominated by 3rd party games .
How does Command & Conquer or Duke Nukem help your case
Quality software and far better than the N64 versions for starters . It's an urban myth that all the best software was Japan only on the Saturn
-
By All means I'll list some of the Saturn games that were made for the west that

escaped your notice that Sakura Wars never came to the west on the DC
Really we are desperate aren't we. SAKURA TAISEN never came to the west? That's the best we can do? The DC didn't need a game like SAKURA TAISEN because most of the AAA games made for DC was released in the west. That was never the case for the saturn. Which is why they needed all the AAA they can for that system over here. But they didn't release SAKURA TAISEN, Never had a proper SONIC game, most of the genesis games didn't have Saturn sequels, and SOA was hindered from releasing a lot of their titles for it like EC.

Now were listing games from other parties. Yet again proving the point that Sega didn't have enough AAA games for the saturn so were using third parties now....and what makes this laughable is half the games listed were bullcrap... :))

Only to you. Its not a game that people are clamouring for or brought the system for or want a sequel to.
You're having a laugh if you think there better software for the Mega CD than
the Saturn in the west, a big laugh .
Combined with the MD yes it does .
Never said otherwise as far as most are concerned the DC is a flop , so was the
Mega CD . But if you owned the systems and bought the games one might think
otherwise.
No the saturn to most was a non entity. The DC however is considered by most gamers now as Sega's best system for games. Keep rewriting the book. The saturn was and still will be Sega's worst games machine out of ALL the systems they released.
-

He knows all that but he will keep insisting that the saturn is a great system and try to rewrite history usually to get novice gamers on his side. He's done it again by hijacking this topic into a frigging Saturn flame war.
I ask you this...How many sequels do you hear from fans want made that first appeared on MD?
How many games do you hear people want to see of sequels of games from the DC era..
Now how many sega fans do you hear demand a sequel from the saturn era of games..Guess what? Not many..all you will get is three PANZER DRAGOON, NIGHTS and BURNING RANGERS. Prephaps two others. But that is way way less compared to the games people want to see return from the MD and DC era.
And that is the point. Geez you make logical sense but you get fanbot zealots like ben and TA disrupting the forum with stupid illogical nonsense and try to disceredit people when it doesn't fit their world view. We all know the saturn had a weak showing in the west. We all know the saturn had the least ammount of good games for it..its not even a debate its a frigging fact. You know it and i know it as does everyone else...why are we entertaining some idiots in this forum with this, i dont know...
-

List these titles people want to see sequel too from the DC that came from SEGA Japan . Its not that many other than usual calls for Skies II, Shenmue III (a game which started life was a Saturn title) REZ and maybe Space Channel 5 III , F355 III . The rest of the games have had sequels
Not that people asking for sequel is any sort of judgment on a system or its games line up .
We all know the saturn had the least ammount of good games for it

The Saturn had more titles than the DC I think you'll find in the West and I'll argue that it had the better number of Good to decent games too . You've quite clearly never owned a Saturn or gave it much time , but its had a good line up and quite a lot of good games, more than the DC or N64 . Not that numbers mean anything . The Mega CD for most was a waste of time and it sold like crap in most of Europe and Japan and yet the system had a decent number of games worth getting the system for

Its way more than the saturn that's the point.
SHENMUE came out as a DC title. Never released for the saturn as an actual game so its hardly counts.
Not that people asking for sequel is any sort of judgment on a system or its
games line up .
Rubbish. And everyone knows that you are talking rubbish.
It is because those games on those systems are memorable to people. Again not many for the saturn as opposed to the DC and MD...

Keep talking poppycock. The saturn in the west was a joke and you know it. Not enough good games was released for the west and the AAA games for DC far outweigh it..no point debating it. Stop wasting my time and everyone elses and stick to the topic or make a new topic about the saturn or the DC.

Jaja yeah thats an example XD. But there was also people saying "Capcom doesnt do good games anymore, dont buy these game problably is going to be full with DLC...", and those kind of comments. My point is that the past games of a company shouldnt make pay they future games.
-
Yes i mean like that. I understand if you are sketical about the next game but start with the wave of shit without even knowing anything yet?, i think thats just to much.
In this case it wasn't though, Colonial Marines was complete shit. And quite honestly, i'm glad the developers and publishers were criticized for this mess. Those critics saved me a lot of money in the end because i thought twice before purchasing that one.
-
Quick summary;
- Establishing a new team within Atlus that are solely responsible for the localization of SEGA's Japanese centric titles. Titles that still have massive worldwide appeal ie. Sonic the Hedgehog, Monkey Ball etc would still be allocated to SEGA's Western branches. Significant investment would be needed here and I would place Atlus in direct control of this new division, as their expertise should lend themselves well to establishing a franchise for most of these titles.
- Set up a new service similar to uPlay and Origin but solely with SEGA's titles. The titles would still be made available via Steam but people would be able to purchase a subscription service that opens up SEGA's massive back catalogue. Again some investment would be needed in this service but short term wise either a minor loss or minor profits is expected. The goal is to have a long term revenue stream established in a few years time.
- Establish a new team in SEGA Networks that are responsible for producing console/handheld version of their successful mobile apps. These titles would be produce to be wholly independent of any form of microtransactions and stand own their own two feets as either as cheap download only or retail titles. I would pick the following three as the first to be produced;
Retail
- Chain Chronicle (3DS and Vita)
- Kingdom Conquest (Vita)
Digital
- Sonic Dash (eshop / PSN / iOS / Android)
- Unify the development teams and or share expertise between the three regions. In this case I would be behind the idea of getting people from the Creative Assembly or Relic and passing their know how to the development staff at SEGA Japan.
- Finally with the profits generated from SEGA's other titles I would attempt a vanity project every year or two. This would be a title that is produced not simply for profits but to keep the SEGA brand in the upper echelons of brand status. This should a new IP and if successful, can be added to the portfolio of established SEGA series that get sequels such as Sonic, Yakuza etc. This is of course dependent on if the company as a whole have been producing steady profits.
And keep everything else ticking as it is.
-

Those critics were justify yes, but what i say is that we shouldnt pass those critics to the next Alien, being sketical is one thing and already throw shit because you had a bad experience is another one.

- Establish a new team in SEGA Networks that are responsible for producing console/handheld version of their successful mobile apps. These titles would be produce to be wholly independent of any form of microtransactions and stand own their own two feets as either as cheap download only or retail titles. I would pick the following three as the first to be produced;
Good ideas..some of them are close to what Sega are doing(making handheld versions of their digital games) but others of course they aren't doing.
-
In this case it wasn't though, Colonial Marines was complete shit. And quite honestly, i'm glad the developers and publishers were criticized for this mess. Those critics saved me a lot of money in the end because i thought twice before purchasing that one.
Problem was some were criticizing it before they even played the game..which is something common when it comes to Sega and the anti sega zealots out there..they just got lucky on this one...but most of the time they aren't..
-
Those critics were justify yes, but what i say is that we shouldnt pass those critics to the next Alien, being sketical is one thing and already throw shit because you had a bad experience is another one.
I'm skeptical about the new Alien, who wouldn't be? After the shit fest that was Colonial Marines, you have to be skeptical.

Do you have any examples? I mean, i criticize the shit out of Sonic games because it's warranted. As someone who used to be a huge Sonic fan, i've been nothing but disappointed with Sonic Teams lack of effort on their part.

If you were around the sega related forums back in 2003 onwards you saw all kinda zealots coming out of the woodwork attacking Sega games. Many people here have experienced it themselves in one form or another whether it was from fans or zealots on professional game websites. I recall when half the Segabits staff was part of the Seganerds team and some website started to attack sega and sega nerds directly. And then we all came to that site and had a....little debate...good times those were....
-
Oh yeah, when I was at SEGA Nerds it was a site called 'old-wizard' that was ran by a troll Nintendo fanboy. His site used to be called 'Old Wizard' or something, it is now down though.
He would basically make lists and just list SEGA stuff on top of his worse lists. More information can be found here:

Its way more than the saturn that's the point.
What a handful of titles ? and even then the calls for DC sequels are getting less and less bar SOA or Shenmue
It is because those games on those systems are memorable to people
Plenty of people asking for sequels for all sorts of games on all systems . The only reason it seems more people ask for some of the DC games is because the system did better in the USA and so you then to get more calls .
Not enough good games was released for the west and the AAA games for DC far outweigh
No. Plenty of the good Saturn software was brought to the West and there were some very good games made for the system in the West too. Plenty of Saturn AAA game to be bought even for the Pal gamer
If were a Saturn Pal Gamer and liked AAA games then these will do you for starters
SEGA Rally
Virtual Cop
Virtual Fighter II
Athlete Kings
NiGHTS
Exhumed (one of the best ever FPS)
Saturn Bomberman (the best bomberman ever)
Shining In the Holy Ark
Shinning Force III
Duke Nukem
Burning Rangers
Street Fighter Zero II
Enemy Zero
Fighting Megamix
Dragon Force
Steep Slope Sliders
Tomb Raider
Dark Saviour
Resident Evil
Panzer Dragoon Saga
Panzer Dragoon Zwei
Guardian Heroes
World Wide Soccer 97
Command and Conquer
X-Men COTA
-
Steep Slope Sliders was the shit man. I would make a sequel to that game.
Fuck that soundtrack was so baller too.

You still here? You are desperate. You come back after a week and come up with two weak responses..one that isn't worth carrying on and this one where you STILL can't show any Saturn AAA games from Sega and Sega alone. Did it take you a whole week to come up with both weak responses? What a tool..stop wasting my time and everyone elses. What a frigging joke.
-
You come back after a week and come up with two weak responses
It's a been less than a week mate and sorry if I've been busy in work and spending time with the girlfriend.
STILL can't show any Saturn AAA games from Sega and Sega alone.
So SAGA and Zwei aren't AAA games ? No is the likes of Virtual Fighter II, SEGA Rally , or what about Burning Rangers , NiGHTS, Dragon Force . Add in Iron Storm, World Series BaseBall II, Astal , Fighting MegaMix, AthleteKings, Virtual ON , Virtual Cop and they're AAA games alright and how I miss the old SEGA that used to pump out the likes of those and all those from SEGA Japan In-House (and don't try and be clever about Iron Storm).
Try naming the DC AAA In-House SEGA games for a change . C'Mon lets see them and I'll equal it with Saturn titles . The only area the DC had a real advantage over the Saturn, was in the 3D platform dept imo

That's all I could think of from Sega Japan. I'm sure there are more. I guess we can throw in SOA (Visual Concepts) and SOE (No Cliche) also, but I'm not sure that's pertinent to the argument.
-
Well Jonboy that's hardly a bigger list and quite a lot of those are not hailed as AAA classics -no-one see's the likes of Outrigger Zombie Revenge, SEGA GT as AAA (but yes its subjective) or where gamers are wanting more sequels to them and the that's overlooking the likes of Cosmic Smash never came to the West be that America or Europe
I would also put to you that more people see VF II as the better game than VF 3tb , SEGA Rally a better port and a better game than SEGA Rally II (thanks the DC terrible car physics and handling) and that Die Hard Arcade is better than its sequel , same goes for Fighting Vipers and if you are going to include the ports that were either not handled In-House by SEGA Japan (Vf 3 and FV II) or where most I doubt would try and class them as AAA classics then one can add the likes of House of the Dead, Manx TT, Virtual Racing , Golden Axe the Duel , F-1 Challenge , Sega Touring Cars , Wing Arms, Last Bronx (mind you I think its a AAA classic ) to the Saturn list .
In the end there were plenty of AAA and good games on the Saturn even in the west and just because the system fails to take of in some parts of the world is not a true reflection of the system or its games . I love the Master System and yet that was a flop in Japan and America, love the X-Box even though most of Europe and Japan didn't really care for the system
-
We are getting very subjective at this point. You and I will just say "no I think this or that is AAA."
Sorry about Cosmic Smash. Ill close by saying your last list included such fine examples of blue blood Sega Japan gaming as Duke Nukem and Tomb Raider.
-

Well SEGA GT to most was a letdown on the DC lets face it , Sega Rally II a troubled port from start to finish and handle terribly (shame as it is a good game) and I doubt anyone really thinks Outrigger is a AAA product. That not to say its bad game though
Ill close by saying your last list included such fine examples of blue blood Sega Japan gaming as Duke Nukem and Tomb Raider.
And I'll close, by pointing you to my post http://segabits.com/forums/index.php?topic=3121.30 (http://segabits.com/forums/index.php?topic=3121.30)
Rubbish, sheer rubbish . The Saturn enjoyed some of the best games to ever come out of SEGA Japan
NiGHTS
VF II
Fighting MegaMix
Sega Rally
Virtual Cop 1 and II
Decatlete
Winter Heat
Panzer Dragoon
Panzer Dragoon Zwei
Panzer Dragoon Saga

Again you keep mentioning the same titles but you still couldn't prove that the saturn had a major amount of AAA titles from sega for the west and that it was more than the DC. When people questioned you on it you resorted by using third parties games. The moment you did that you lost. So stop derailing the thread and get back on topic. The saturn was crap in the west. EVERYONE knows it. Stop trying to convince everyone otherwise.
Try naming the DC AAA In-House SEGA games for a change . C'Mon lets see them and I'll equal it with Saturn titles . The only area the DC had a real advantage over the Saturn, was in the 3D platform dept imo

Last Friday I was out with Girlfriend all the way up Blackburn watching Cardiff City, the next day I was in Cardiff out drinking with the Girlfriend on Saturday Night , Then last Sunday, Monday and Tuesday was in work doing my 12 hr shifts . So all in all after a heavy weekend and working I couldn't be arsed to post on the forums .
The saturn was crap in the west.
That's so pathetic its almost laughable . What next because the Master system sold like crap in America and was a poor mans NES it was crap, because the MD sold like crap in Japan and to almost every Japanese gamer was a poor mans NEC PC-eng, never mind Superfamicom it was crap ?.

Whoever is listening could you please tell TA to either stick to the actual topic or not post here at all. He keeps on derailing every topic on stuff that has nothing really to do with the actual topic. Its getting tiring now. Since he won't create a topic on it, I ask the mods to actually tell him to stop this conversation.
Thanks.

I stayed on topic and then you go on about this rubbish that SEGA never made any good games on the Saturn and so on . You're quick enough to ask questions , not so quick to answer them
-

No you haven't. You started going off topic. You want to talk about the saturn and the DC? Fine, CREATE A TOPIC ABOUT IT. NOW STOP GOING OFF TOPIC ON THIS AND OTHER THREADS OR I'M GOING TO MAKE A REAL COMPLAINT. i'VE HAD ENOUGH OF YOU DERAILING OTHER PEOPLES THREADS AND TURNING IT INTO A FRIGGING FLAME WAR BECAUSE PEOPLE DON'T AGREE WITH YOUR POINT OF VIEW AND THEN YOU KEEP TURNING ONE QUOTE INTO ANOTHER DEBATE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ORIGINAL POINT! stop it or else!
-
Guys, please stick to the topic at hand: TA and his Girlfriend's latest date.
Did you buy her flowers TA?
@Joe: Do you think flowers or chocolates are the better gift? I'm thinking about getting flowers for my missus, but I worry it's a bit old fashioned.
Serious answers only guys, let's not derail this topic.
-
No you haven't. You started going off topic
Its quite clear I did and that where I like to have seen some of the old SEGA magic . To which you then hit back with the usual stuff with the Saturn and go on about the DC and Mega Drive and so on
I'm thinking about getting flowers for my missus, but I worry it's a bit old fashioned
My girlfriend likes eyelashes, eye and nail make up if one is to be serious for a sec.
-

Thanks for the suggestion, although my girl isn't really into makeup, I don't think those would suit.
She does have a bit of a sweet tooth, so I'm thinking chocolates or some kind of pastry. Macaroons are usually a hit.

No TA i just said it wasn't big in the west. You are the one who has gone off topic. When you left after a week to think up more things against me the topic magically went back to its subject. Its only when you returned have you started to detrail it again. Anyway i will be writing a lengthy letter to BTN on your behavior since you keep ignoring mine and others requests to stick to the subject at hand. And now were onto girlfriends. Yet again the attention is on you rather than what its supposed to me. So now i will be writing to the mods and ask them to stop the bulkl you keep pulling.
Good day.

Well if we want to start picking one another's games apart, then let's go.
Sega Rally 2 was hardly rough around the edges like you make out. It had some hiccups, but it was hardly a "troubled port." Popup wasn't uncommon in the arcarde version, so you can’t pin that on a rush job. Frame-rate issues were the only real issue I remember ever having with the game, and that's not exactly a ruining experience. I'm not the only one who thought the game was solid, either. Famitsu gave it a 36/40 (incidentally the same score they handed the Saturn port, and a sight higher than many of the games on your list). IGN gave it a 90.
Out of your broadened list, I don't think anyone would look at Manx TT or Golden Axe the Duel as AAA (in the case of the latter, I don't think it's widely considered even "good"). Virtual Racing was impressive on the MD. On the SS, it was sort of outdated. Sega Touring Cars was forgettable (I literally forgot about it). House of the Dead was a defining game on the Saturn, at least in retrospect - I'd count it. Last Bronx was AAA in Japan, so I'd count it, too, I guess. Very fun game. I wish Sega had doubled down with Last Bronx on the DC, actually.
Virtua Fighter 2 was a better game than tb, but 3 was also 2 years old when it came to the Dreamcast (3 in the west) and that made it seem underwhelming, especially next to Soul Calibur. Its gameplay was much bigger advancement than 2, and it was a much more ambitious game the whole way through. From 1996 to 1998 every Saturn owner prayed for VF3 to come to their system before going to bed, and that's a fact. Wasn't the same Fighter MegaMix you cite the test ground for VF3's allegedly poor fourth button mechanism? Wasn't MegaMix touted as the first true 3D fighter? VF3 gets a bum rep for being different.
The four sports games you listed were alright, but they pale next to the 2K lineup. I know its apples and oranges with Winter Heat and Decathalete.
Astal was pretty, but was very shallow. It wasn't AAA, even in 1995. If not for the hand-drawn graphics, it would be entirely forgettable.
Clockwork Knight and its sequel, while fun games, were filler - the same, I suppose, you would say of Zombie Revenge and Outtrigger (though in my mind, anything AM2 does is AAA). I don't think people were queuing up for it at the stores, and I don't think people were waiting for their copy of Next to read previews of it.
While I risk losing Virtual On OT for this argument, but I'll point out that a couple of your games weren't brought over thanks to Sega, but because of the tireless folks over at Working Design. With the particular case of MKR, that was most definitely no thanks to Sega. By the time MKR made it over, it was fairly dated.
On the topic of bringing some of Sega’s better Saturn games over, wasn’t there a bit of a hiccup there with an e3 booth in 1997? Sega damn near chased WD away with a broom. They sold them a booth (Sold!) and then Bernie tried to rescind the deal to keep up the impression the Saturn was dead. They gated them off and kept WD hidden in some corner booth. Sega lost 5 games because of the way they were handled.
-
Thanks for the suggestion, although my girl isn't really into makeup, I don't think those would suit.
She does have a bit of a sweet tooth, so I'm thinking chocolates or some kind of pastry. Macaroons are usually a hit.
Have you considered taking her to a specialty chocolate shop?

Have you considered taking her to a specialty chocolate shop?
We've been meaning to go to this great French cafe/pastry place for a while, but it's usually closed when she visits my area, or we've made other plans that don't finish until after they close up.
That's where I bought the Macaroons from, which impressed us both so we wanted to go and try out their other stuff.

A lot of those french pastry shops will take orders, so that might be something to consider - that way you can be sure. You could double down with a bottle of a nice buttery wine. If you cook, that's always romantic. You can make her something and buy her something.

Famitsu reviews are bought lets all remember the score they gave Shadow The Hedgehog for starters .
Sega Rally II had a troubled developed from start to finish : After a poor showing at the Toyko game show the code was redone , the game was held back by Windows CE too and then you had frame rate trouble , terrible handling model , physics and dirt particle effects way behind the Saturn version (half the time it looked like the cars were floating around the track) and a million miles away from the Model 3 version . And we can all use reviews when it suits us , what did IGN give Fighting Vipers II , Dynamite Cop ?
Out of your broadened list, I don't think anyone would look at Manx TT or Golden Axe the Duel as AAA
Neither would I and hence why I wouldn't really class them as anything more than decent . But then the same goes for the likes of Outrigger or SEGA GT (a game that didn't get rave feedback even from SEGA fans).
The 1st game was pants really , but the sequel was much better and was a joy to play , but platforming is one area the DC had over the Saturn (and I've always said as much )
And sales aren't the be and end all either : COD and the likes may fly of the shelves but I'll hardly class them as the best FPS money can buy , same for FF 7 - it might have sold millions and got rave reviews, but Saga is a better RPG in every respect .
While I risk losing Virtual On OT for this argument, but I'll point out that a couple of your games weren't brought over thanks to Sega, but because of the tireless folks over at Working Design
Well you see on that score one could always point out that for the Pal gamer Virtual ON II was never brought to the DC , neither was the likes of Getbass II , Rez was never brought to the DC for the USA or there the fact that for the west we need to thank Acclaime for F355 on the DC or the fact that Space Channel 5 Part II never came to the west on the DC at all . I think its better just to stick to the games that SOJ that people were able to play in the west in one shape or another
The four sports games you listed were alright, but they pale next to the 2K lineup
NBA action 98 was ace on the Saturn, the Saturn versions of Baseball so much better than the lame DC version and football was one area the DC was shit at at least on the Saturn we had great football games not least from SEGA In-House , 2K Ice Hockey wasn't as good as All Stars 98 on the Saturn either (note that both weren't In-House titles anyway). NFL was mighty on the DC granted and must rank as one of the best sports ever games ever made and where you just can't coach that
Sega damn near chased WD away with a broom. They sold them a booth (Sold!) and then Bernie tried to rescind the deal to keep up the impression the Saturn was dead
Bernie refused to pay for WD both when SEGA America always used to prior to Bernie taking over . After a phone call to SOJ from WD Bernie was ordered to pay for the both, but the damage was already done .
-
Stick to the fucking topic for gods sake. This has NOTHING to do with the topic or the subject. Stop derailing the thread.
