RIP Alien Isolation, it was fun while it lasted.
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2014/09/17/alien-isolation-survivor-mode-season-pass-detailed/#sf4683565
And on October 28th, the first of five Survivor Mode add-on packs will be available to purchase, featuring three new maps. Each map has its own set objective, challenges, a variety of enemy types to deal with, and a new playable character to discover — plenty to sink your teeth in to.
There will be more add-on packs to explore across the following month, and if you’re keen to sharpen those survival instincts, then don’t miss out on our Season Pass. The pass will give you access to all five Survivor Mode add-on packs, with up to a 25% discount!
Pre order cancelled, uninstalled all Sega games from PC, threw out my Dreamcast, drop-kicked a puppy down a flight of stairs, drove my car into a shopping centre food court, threw an ice-cream sundae at the Macdonald's Cashier, then shot myself in the face with a .45 Colt semi-automatic handgun.

SEGA takes risk as being a single player campaign, high budget survival horror game, stars a female protagonist and has relatively little gunplay.
Decides to limit the original crew of the Alien film behind preorder bonus and more content hidden behind season pass.
It's like SEGA doesn't know if it wants to be themselves or join the Activision/EA cash party.
(Also I would have preordered this game but I have yet to see what the Playstation 3 version even looks like!)

I was joking about the pre-order, I planned to buy it on PC at some point after it released.
-
Well I definitely want it, my laptop just isn't powerful enough to run it and I don't think I'll be getting a Playstation 4 until late next year or early 2016 so that rules those two options out for me.
I'm just going to wait for the impressions for the Playstation 3 version, sad that I'll be missing out on content just because I wasn't confident enough on SEGA delivering a competent port of the game.
-
I'm definitely eager to play the game. Really unsure whether I will be supporting the DLC though. The Alien franchise is the perfect setting for a great survival horror game, and after just playing through ZombiU and Resident Evil Revelations on the Wii U, I'm definitely in the mood!

Sounds to me they're following the P2P model that SOJ has thrived on but applied to consoles. Dreading if YAKUZA will end up going this route with the next few titles...and it easily could with the arcades and panchinko virtual games present in the title.
Anyway its not like Sega west hasn't done this before...

Dark Souls II also has Season Pass..so what gives? IMO
At least if the campaign is really good, I can still buy it for my PS3 and later I will buy the All-in-one pack in a Steam Sale for my PC next year

Also devil's spawn in video game form.
For real though, I dislike this season pass thing, especially for games that are meant to be single player focused.
The DLC stuff sounds weird anyway. It does turn me off this game somewhat.
-
That's ok Sega, I forgive you.
I'll just have to take a bit of my own Passing on some of your paycheck, please understand. I'll still give you money! Just...well, not as much.
-
Fuck this. If SEGA thinks this is how they will do future games, fuck them. You can't ship a game with 1 fucking map and charge people for the rest. If it had like a substantial amount, like 12, then they added later, whatever. But 1?
YES SURVIVOR MODE WILL HAVE ONE FUCKING MAP WHEN IT SHIPS AND THE FIRST DLC PACK IS COMING IN 3 WEEKS.
That is fucking stupid.
-
But we need to support the company
We are supposed to be Sega fanboys
-
I'm sure more people here would have been accepting if it was a new Valkyria Chronicles and even though some of us like Alien the film, doesn't mean we need to take this butt raping from SEGA imo.

I actually thought this would be just a straight up single player campaign and that's it.
Still I dislike the ethics in trying to hook people like this, especially hearing people say it's a demo with the full game. I paid for the full game and still parts of it are a demo, what?
-
I won't be buying add-on DLC. The shipped game is what it is, and if the multiplayer in the shipped game sucks, it'll be reflected in my opinion of the game.
-
How much content will this season pass have compared to the retail release?
-
If the retail game gives me 10 hours of so of top notch gameplay I couldn't careless . I hate DLC but lets see how good the main game is before we start to slag it off as I see the same thing is happing with The Evil within .
-
I'm sorry but a mode with 1 map is unacceptable. Gotta agree with George on this one.
I understand DLC and have no problem with DLC but you need to release a complete game....first. Then you add DLC. The way Sega's apparently doing this is such the wrong way to do it.
-
To me it depends on how big and impressive Map 1 is . Its an amazing 10 hours of Alien horror love-in , then I'm more than happy

There's no multiplayer, only challenge maps with leader boards.

Absolutely correct. A game should be judged purely on what it is like out of the box, no DLC (free or paid), no day 1 patches, nothing. If it is a good game as that, I will purchase it. If I enjoy it and want more, then I will consider the DLC, depending on how much they charge.
-
10 hours isn't much compared to what a game this size would have given you 8 years ago. I'll wait to see if they release an entire content release..
-
Definitely not buying this day 1. After hearing this, it makes me a bit uneasy. I'll wait for the feedback from other people, sorry Sega.
-
Season Pass or not. I already pre-ordered it.
-

Ah. My mistake.
Doesn't really change my opinion though.
-
How much effort does it take to make a raw deal like this sound appetizing? =P
Pretty glad it'll come out on PS4 at least, I'm interested in watching some streams of it. Still expecting a creepy game.

10/10
cept it was missing SEGA HATES THE FANS and stuff
-
I'm more intrested how the negative publicity over ACM will impact on the sales of this game, myself.
-
So Creative Assembly is inviting streamers to play the game, here is survivor mode:

Yeah, this is pretty shitty of SEGA to do. I'll just be waiting for the inevitable GOTY edition that'll be released next year. I'd prefer a full game rather than one with stuff taken out of it so they can make it DLC.
-
I'm pretty sure nothing was 'taken out' of the game and made into DLC outside of maybe the pre-release DLC (if its playable day one).
-

The likes of Dead Space was pretty short and could be done in 10 hours or so ? Didn't really matter as those 10 hours were brilliant . If this game can give me 8 to 10 hours of scary and quality gameplay combined with some Alien love-in . I really couldn't careless about DLC .
Its been years since I played a really good horror game, but less seen or played a decent Alien film or game :)
-
Yes but were not getting the FULL game. That's what everyone is in a hump about. BINARY DOMAIN and YAKUZA 3 between them took over 15 hours to complete and 19-20 hours to finish.
After this COLONIAL MARINES debacle..Sega shouldn't be pulling this type of thing when gameplayers are at a sort with them. If the reaction in here is anything to go by..then i wonder what the general reaction to other gamers about this is going to be.
-
Look we don't know that we not getting the full game > If the main game is brilliant and full of 10 hours of utter Alien brilliance and scares , do you really care about any DLC ?
I rather have 10 hours of top gameplay than 40 hours of boredom . The last game that came close to Alien type of tension/atmosphere was Enemy Zero . I'm busting to play a game that comes close to capturing Alien type looks and atmosphere
After this COLONIAL MARINES debacle.
That's the point isn't it ? . The main game was so poor and crap - No one cared about any extra's or DLC the 1st 2 hours of gameplay killed the game . That's my point if CA nail the main game , that's all that counts in my book
-
Come on DLC in today's market would have been part of the main game years and years ago. This isn't extra features..this is just paying for getting the other levels of the game on top of the money you have already paid for. To me that's not what gaming is meant to be about.
-

Its hard to tell as in the Saturn and PS days more games could get away with having just 8 hours of gameplay . DLC been with us since the 360 and while I hate DLC, but as long as I get 8 to 10 hours of good fun gameplay I really don't care . Just to give some examples.... I really enjoyed and loved COD IV - I really couldn't careless about any DLC or any multiplayer extra's , the main single player game was just amazing and all I wanted even though it was short .
I just hope CA nail the main game and get that right .

The DLC are challenge missions...just like Batman Arkham City which campaign was really compelling even with the weird transition with Catwoman who also has a Day-One DLC Extra Story mode.
If the campaign is good and has at least like TA said , 10 hours of gameplay, a game is worthy no matter what they take for DLC.
I know that DLC are a problem for buying a game from first day but this is nothing that doesn't happen before.
Also, This game has no multiplayer whatsoever, so it could be focus more in the solo campaign making that better.

But the DLC is huge chunks of the game for this title. And don't keep bringing up multi player since i never assumed the title would be a multiplayer game or that its part of the game. I said hours and levels. The DLC has new characters and scenarios which translates to extra levels. I can live with one or two but this game's seasonal past clearly indicates a whole lot more than that. Which means i'm going to pay 60 pounds for a quarter of a complete game? No thank you..i'll wait until the decide to release the entire game.

Admittedly I'm ambivalent about the whole matter of DLC. But I think it's a bit of an outdated attitude to assume that the existence of DLC means that the entire on-disc game, plus all the subsequent DLC, is secretly complete at the time of shipping, and the DLC has merely been excised from the disc. In the past there have been high-profile instances when such pay-to-unlock schemes have been used. But I know that there are developers out there who don't even start on the DLC until the basic game has been completed. It might be a business model that older gamers don't like, but it's here to stay and Sega is wise to extend the lifespan of this game, and therefore this franchise in the hands of Creative Assembly, by having a significant amount of DLC planned out. Ultimately I think this is gonna be a huge seller for Sega, in spite of much of the gaming press already rallying against it for the preorder content. A single player game will be completed in a week or less by a huge number of gamers, then resold and an untold percentage of subsequent sales will be lost to the used market. Sega has to give players reasons to hold on to the disc and buy more content, hopefully at a good value proposition.

I would say that because modern game development they leave things out of the final game all the time. And we know that the DLC was effectively ready when they announced the characters and everything else before the season pass was announced. I know several big Sega games that left a lot of things out just so they could have the game ready to ship. And that means that the data existed and was game ready that was edited out of the gold version. VANQUISH was a good example of that and how PG used that data and put it in Konami's game. DLC now is just an excuse to give you tha with extra charge even though its obvious that was part of the plan from the beginning of development on ALIEN ISOLATION.
