Following MCV’s exclusive story last week that pointed to a possible E3 reveal for a proper successor to Sony’s PlayStation Portable, one consumer games site claims to have unearthed details of the in-development machine.
VG247 claims that NDAs (non disclosure agreements) about the PSP2 have been in place at publishers and developers for several months.
Furthermore, it’s claimed that the device will boast a touch-screen, both a forward facing and a backwards facing camera and possible 3G over-the-air net connectivity. It’s also said to, despite its touch capability, still include the traditional PlayStation button arrangement and be based on a four-core Cell CPU.
Many titles are said to already be in development, and one source claimed that it would be “amazed” if any kind of physical media was involved.
It’s also claimed that an E3 reveal is now unlikely with the launch of the device having been pushed back to 2011. Instead, it is claimed a Gamescom or Tokyo Game Show announcement is now more likely.

$599?
This is the exact reason why I have held off on the PSPgo, some may remember I was planning on picking one up in March.
Not sure why you would need 2 touch screens, although it could make some interesting multiplayer games.

That idea was taken from the DS/DSi. C'mon, Sony. You can do better than THAT.
I want to stick with my original PSP and my 7 games (I have 5). That's it.

Were are you getting all this false information?
One source told us the machine is “fucking powerful,” being based on a four-core Cell CPU. PS3 runs on an eight-core version.
wat. I hope this thing has some "fucking powerful" batteries as well.

False information?
It should be obvious that $599 is a joke. Sony have been widely criticised by media sites for the high prices of the ps3, psp and pspgo at launch.

the psp wasn't overpriced.. It was 250 for something really amazing. Playing Wipeout Pure in 2005 was one of the most awesome things ever.
I understood the 599USDOLLARS joke. But they mention nothing about 2 screens. You must have misread.. Sorry I didn't mean to sound rude :P

It has 2 cameras, one front facing and one in the back. Touch screen for obvious "web browsing and some games". I don't see anything bad ab out this. I rather spend a bit more to get a system that does more.

Portable gaming is a degenerate fad.
George, where are your youtube videos campaigning for PS2 BC on PS3?
C'mon, get busy!
-
Idiotic statements like that make you look like a fool. Portable gaming is on the rise.
Why would I campaign for PS2 BC on PS3? It already has it. As a gamer, you should buy the console that suits your needs. Mine was one with a PS2. Regardless, I don't know what you mean, why would I bother doing this on Youtube? This some sort of joke?

Portable gaming has never been more popular than now, and it might eventually be the dominate form of gaming in the future, I actually think it will too.
It could only be for the best, too. Imagine still getting a Shenmue III that has the same level graphics as the first two a few years from now, but on a handheld. That would be amazing especially if you could optionally host the game through a television.
My biggest issue with handheld gaming and eventually the overall future of the medium is that game boxes will no longer exist. I hate to think my children or children's children might not be able to have the same satisfaction as I did when I got a new game to check out everything that was inside the box and look at all of the art on the inside, the story in the manual, etc etc.

Whoops, I misread the headline and thought it to mean 2 touch screens.
