3D Sonic The Hedgehog 2, Streets of Rage 2 and Gunstar Heroes added to SEGA 3D Classics wave two!

Thoughts?
-
I wish they would release these games on a system I actually own and use.
Otherwise fucking fantastic. They look like great ports done well.
-
I hope they go all the way for GunStar Heroes. Don't ex-Treasure folks work at M2 now?
-
Just as I said, "wait and see" all this year ;)
-
Months back:
SEGA: there is no Wave 3...
Today:
SEGA ... but there is more of wave 2!
-
Just as I said, "wait and see" all this year ;)
You were alluding to more ports of Mega Drive games?
-
Yes and No. Time will tell...that's all I can say.
-
I heard Sega say that Mega Drive ports are more popular overseas than in Japan. Makes sense, tough I guess Japan won't get this immadietly? Why is it dificult to Sega to just make WW releases?
-
I noticed the PS2 release of Sega Ages 2500 Series Vol. 25: Gunstar Heroes: Treasure Box featured the prototype of Gunstar Heroes as a bonus. I hope this carries over to the 3DS!
-
Yes and No. Time will tell...that's all I can say.
You sound like a daily horoscope now.
Guys, just wait. Watch Sega. Trust me. Later, not right now, not never, but at some point. Believe. ;)

People complained that the SEGA AGES titles didn't come here, now this is the new line basically of them and their fantastic. I'm excited for Streets of Rage 2 and Gunstar Heroes. I hope more Treasure stuff makes it over :)

How much are 3DS these days anyway?
Also how did Shinobi 3DS do? Bombed I suppose... Gameplay really awesome, graphics looked shockingly bad wish so much it had come out on PC or something instead.
-
Brand new 3DS' are like...199 bucks? Refurbished ones from Nintendo are like 149, I think. I can't really say because I bought mine basically new for forty bucks.
-
Yeah some of their early titles leave a lot to be desired but Outrun 3D is literally one of the best home releases for the game, if not THE BEST.
The 'New' 3DS XL is like 200 new usd (i dunno else where), so you can get the older models (that play all these games) for less than 150. I seen some used for 100 dollars. 2DS' are even cheaper (i think they retail for 120)

These releases are set apart and well justified from the regular ones because of the 3d. The new 3ds enhances the 3d effect a lot So you have to pick between cheap original model or more expensive enhanced model.
-
Thanks guys. I've never liked handheld consoles... But these are really awesome. Decisions, decisions...

You also have to buy the charging cable separately if you're getting the New3DS.

Lol yeah dont forget about that. I used to have a non genuine one ordered from ebay for like 2 euros. But when I got the n3ds i noticed that it charged really slow compared to the original. Just a heads up, the cheap knock offs dont charge as fast
It sucks that they wont do a 3 game bundle of some sort. I kind of want them all but a bundle discount would ve been a nice incentive

According to GAF, Streets of Rage 2 3D will have a new single player storymode where you will use all the characters throughout the journey. Now, that is cool. I hope Adam is selectable after completing the game.
Can we give a round of applause for SEGA announcing this world wide and not having to wait a year after Japan?

Of course, all kudos to SEGA. ;-D
And finally the Japanese site has been updated to catch the US blog :

There's still nothing to read though, just grayish logos.

I love this news. Three of my favourite games of all time! Whoo!
I'm loving the work M2 has done on these conversions. I'd be fascinated to see what the actual sales figures for these were, as I'd love to see what percentage of the mainstream 3DS audience would be inclined to get them.
-
Currently rocking to the SoR2 soundtrack: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrF3WPi_7uI (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrF3WPi_7uI)
It's tough to sit still at work and not bob around to dem beats.
I cannot wait to play this again.
-
They've done a really good job with the other 3D classics, so I can't wait for these.

This is something that Sam (our producer on all these titles) and I worked really hard on syncing up for a worldwide announcement. The dates of release are different, but we can all talk about the games and know they'll arrive in all territories. It's not often we get to do this, so it's something really special. To see this getting picked up on makes me very happy.

Nice. I think now with the way the internet works and how much entertainment people have at their disposal, its good to strike with the games while the iron is hot so to say. Glad these are coming relatively close to the Japanese release and I hope they sell well enough for SEGA to continue to make world wide announcements on localizing titles.
I'm generally shocked and excited for 3D Gunstar Heroes... really wondering what the M2 wizards will add to the game.

Well done! Please say you're both staying on at SoA when the office moves? You're an asset.
I hope this series of Ports continue and more from M2/SEGA in the future, 3DS or no 3DS there are so many more.
Off topic, any news/trailers on Tembo the Elephant coming soon?

Wow.. You're from SEGA? I just want to say Excellent job done about these 3D classic announcement !!!
I've read in this : http://senpaigamer.com/nintendo-3ds/3d-bare-knuckle-ii-release-april-28-japan-gunstar-heroes-sonic-hedgehog-2-also-comes-04
the Japanese version of Streets of Rage II would released on April 28, 2015 for Japanese e-shop.
Usually I couldn't wait, afraid the US version won't come up, and bought the Japanese version (I have two different regions of 3DS, Jap and US). But now I'll wait and buy the US version instead.

Very nice of you to say, but I'll be departing in June. I'm sad to go because I love to work on titles like these, and do all sorts of fan focused activities, but I'm in need of a change of scenery, so it's for the best.
Not sure on Tembo, but I'm sure there will be more before it releases.

Awesome, definitely adding this to my report. First hand feedback like this is really powerful stuff, I appreciate it.
I'm glad you enjoyed our announcement, just wait until you play the games. They are all turning out awesome, can't wait to read about it when the launch :).
-
Aw, that's a shame!
Good luck in whatever you do next!
-
Sonic 2 in 3D?!?!? I just jizzed while at work..
-
Nice, I love Streets of Rage :-D

Ive played a bit of fantasy zone 2. Ok so the last time ive played a fantasy zone game was a long time ago on the game gear. I replayed it a lot as far as I remember. This one seems to feel really good so far. Almost too good. Has stuff been adjusted for this game as well? I mean wow ive really missed out skipping the original
-
Fantasy Zone II is a System 16 remake of the original which was made for Master System hardware. The orginal Fantasy Zone was made on System 16. M2 actually are the ones behind the System 16 remake in 2008 which was made for the SEGA Ages re-releases (that only got released in Japan). I did go a bit into it on my review on the front page:
http://segabits.com/blog/2015/04/16/review-3d-fantasy-zone-ii-the-tears-of-opa-opa-nintendo-3ds/
So yeah, it has been overhauled and changed in the remake.
-
^Wow what a difference. I knew it felt too good than it should have been. It seems very optomized as if it was an original release for the platform. It makes you appreciate all the work even more :)
-
Loving Fantasy Zone. Since I've got its become my pick up and play game. But its really hard lol! How far did you all get? Me only at stage 2 so far
-
Fantasy Zone is one of those series I would love to come back exactly as it is... A game for mobile which progresses in a similar way to how Sonic Runners progresses would be awesome. Free to play with extra lives/weapons you can buy from the parts shop.

Have you ever tried playing a scolling shooter on touch screen? You don't want that, trust me.

I'd probably play it on PC, it would no doubt be available on PC too. I'm not saying I'm in love with mobile gaming I don't even like handhelds much... But its plain to see that the kind of games I like, like fantasy zone have a shot of returning on mobile where simple pick up and play arcade games are still big business.
-
If it where to be on mobile, it would need to be remixed, make it easier, cuz you have to be pretty freaking perfect in some of those levels. Basically have to make it slower and more forgiving.
-
I'd have the difficulty ramp up way slower over a good number of levels, like, a tonne of levels. Have it so you can buy items with points as usual, or real money. No sending you back to the start of the game on game over, have say 3 levels then a boss and after the boss it's a check point... SO you die on a boss and you're either sent back 3 levels or you buy an extra life for 99p. Some people will pay and people like me will go back and replay 3 levels until I beat it, since that's what I do on Fantasy Zone anyway, and love it.
-
I'm glad 3D Bare Knuckle II's doing well in Japan.
Getting last week's top 10 in the eShop chart and became the most recommended eShop game by player.
Hopefully it will have the same fate in western.

Could 3D Sonic 3 & Knuckles potentially happen?
-
Could 3D Sonic 3 & Knuckles potentially happen?
May be in the third wave (if there's any, still waiting for sales trend),
but for second wave, Sonic 2 is the last one.
Yosuke Okunari :
These games aren’t the start of a new series so we have no plans for the future.
Okunari:
These three titles were put out for download overseas simply as an extension [to the existing series]. This really is the end for the second wave [of Sega 3D Classics].
Of course we want to consider the development of a third wave based on the response to this second wave, but we have no plans at this point in time. We’ll look at the big picture, that is, we'll look at the sales trends of the physical release of the Sega 3D Classics line that went on sale last year [in Japan] as well as how the upcoming three titles perform in the global market. We’re happy to do this indefinitely if sales are good.

I really wish they made a 3D Super Monaco GP.
Maybe include the arcade game in it as well. A man can dream..

That would be sick. I loved the music in that game, even though 5 year old me was far too noob to play that game well.

The music was really intense, a sort of "we can do this" tune to pump you up whenever you enter the pits. It was a-fucking-mazing. It had a great career mode years before racing games got that right.
The arcade version had incredible scalable graphics. So I wish they remade the MegaDrive game, but allowed you to play the arcade version as well. Shit would be so cash.
-
I played the hell outta Super Monaco GP on the Genesis. But my driving technique was questionable... I blocked cars left and right in order to keep the lead! I remember seeing them spinning out, smoke pouring from them in the rearview mirror. And the title screen... :-*

The Game.watch.impress interview's translation for SOR2 is up on the SEGA Blog (part 1, still).

"Streets of Rage 2 features diagonally scrolling sections initially deemed impossible to render in stereoscopic 3D. But then something happened that took the impossible and spun it right around. It happened at the end of develop of Streets of Rage. I didn’t talk about it during the Streets of Rage interview because I wasn’t sure if the project would continue, but…. "

SOR2 is downloadable now. It looks gorgeous in 3D!
These Genesis titles look fantastic this way. Can I dream that Sonic 3nK will get the same treatment down the road?

Of course. Since Batch 1 already had Sonic 1 & SOR1, and this batch 2 had Sonic 2 & SOR2,
I guess anyone would expect there will be Sonic 3&K and SOR 3 for batch 3.
If there will be batch 3 though, they said they'll consider batch 3 only if the sales of batch 2 good enough.
And there is also interesting interview with Sam Mullen & Yosuke Okunari in the Nintendo World Report's website,
in case you have missed it.
They also shared if they could turn one classic Nintendo game into a 3D Classic, what would it be and why.

For 3D Gunstar Heroes, originally if you wanted to use Blue you had to use the 2P controller, but we've made it so you can do that without having to play Local Player.
And for 3D Sonic 2, you can even have 2P control Tails in single-player mode in addition to the normal VS mode.
