Title: US Sonic Convention fails hard
Post by: Barry the Nomad on June 04, 2010, 11:08:31 pm
I saw pics from Gagaman at Summer of Sonic and it looked fun and well put together. Game demos, merch on display, Sumo and Sonic comic artists in attendance etc. (only blemish was Bentley).

Now I read about the US equivalent and it makes me want to puke (though that might be the combination of heat, beer and lucky charms).

Just listen to the fun to be had at Sonicon in Texas this November:
gothic looking rock bands having nothing to do with Sonic, a bunch of animal experts (to teach about real life hedgehogs?!), a "manga" artist from America who is not Japanese and has nothing to do with Sonic and the one gem of the show: Mike Pollock (VA of Eggman).

whee...

I have already trumped the convention and it took me 5 minutes to plan it out:

Segapalooza 2010 in Philadelphia, PA! Date whenever. Just PM me and let me know when you'll be around. Entry open to those I like. Play SEGA games on my two TVs, choosing from nearly every SEGA console. Use my games or bring your own. Play Master System ROMs on my computer with a USB Saturn pad. Take a look at my moderate collection of Sonic and SEGA stuff. Take your photos with the Ryo forklift figure and try to tell me it looks like shit, but you'll still pay the $5 photo fee. Watch Shenmue the Movie, that Sonic anime and episodes from that crappy Sonic Underground show. Only special guest is me, my cat and my girlfriend who puts up with all my SEGA shit.

Sounds like more fun that Sonicon now doesn't it?

If I ever come to the US I'm taking you up on that offer.

I Know SOS is a joint effort between SEGA of Europe and a few of the major Sonic fan-sites... But something tells me SEGA of America has no involvement with this and they might not even know it exists, I mean hell the poster over at Sonic Stadium didn't even know about it and its in its second year according to his post. Usually there up to date on everything.

Every fucking year I think the Sonic fandom hits the lowest it possibly can.

Every fucking year I am proven wrong.

Fuck.

Sure, but if you walk into an empty warehouse (No.8) and some large, bald guy with hairy fingers clubs you around the head with a brick and you wake up in a bathtub full of ice with your kidneys removed don't blame us.

Sounds like a good opening for a movie (http://http://www.lovehkfilm.com/panasia/aj6293/sympathy_for_mr_vengeance.jpg)

Not necessarily but I really don't go outside much so I can't really talk about my own city which I think is the saddest fact I know.

I'm having my own Sonic Con. I'm going to get people crammed into my room and watch me play Sonic 06 and rage for 9 hours.

That would actually be really funny.

I only check this thread frequently now to see when fluffymoochicken proclaims the original convention sounds like some dream come true.

I'll admit, if it wasn't for the fact that the game shows up in my gamercard and that friends can see I'm playing it, I would have played through all of Sonic '06. Not because I enjoy it, but because I compare it to watching a really shitty movie just so you can laugh at it. Sonic '06 is to video games as Battlefield Earth is to film.

SEGAbits should totally throw a Sonic '06 5th Anniversary convention next year. [spoiler:2ef1geb8]I will not make a cube_b3 Sonic '06 comment as he thinks I have an obsession with him.[/spoiler:2ef1geb8]

I'll have to fly from the UK but Segapalooza sounds the better of the two.

ah-ah! Finally someone who shares the same feelings as me!

I've tried the "cram everyone in a room and play Sonic06" before. It lasted about 5minutes, nobody could stop laughing at Shadow's first FMV! The stupid buggy-riding level that came afterwards didn't help to the case either!
