Also, SEGA does Evangelion stuff? What anime property doesn't SEGA have a stake in??

They did many years ago. While Bandai certainly has the anime monopoly, Sega has just some stuff.

Adding to Trippled, SEGA also owns TMS Entertainment who has stake in stuff like Detective Conan and worked on the Lupin series.

Huh. I remember seeing Attack on Titan stuff on their website a while ago, and that list doesn't mention it or Love Live. Sounds to me like they have partnerships with way more anime than people realize.

Yeah, Sega did the whole "entertainment space" in Japan pretty much first, attracting casuals with crane games and photo booths. Lots of advertising will tie into that.

Rumor has it that they helped fund the original Evangelion anime. It's said they backed out of funding at one point due to the increased violence being depicted in the anime, causing the infamous last episodes containing a ton of recycled animations. That said, I can't find an official source confirming it. But they had (and still have) a deal to release toys based on the franchise. Their UFO catchers often contain figures from popular anime in Japan.

Actually, SEGA funded both Zillion and Evangelion (mostly all of the promotion material). You can even see a Mega Drive in the second one.


This Love Live! collab is a "friendly" collab with Bamco, in the same way that Kadokawa is allowing SEGA to make a Kancolle Arcade game.


Offtopic: Those last Evangelion chapters were maded like that because ,with every episode from the start, Gainax invested more money in each episode until some few episodes cost the triple of the estimated! and they almost got bankrupt (Well, the producer went to jail after he did a tax evasion)
