Preordered my copy a few weeks ago, pretty pumped for this game.

You guys be careful now. Some stores sold the game already, the dumb idiots. So now there are a bunch of spoilers floating around.

I haven't played the Halo series since 3 (aside from some dabbling in the original Halo Wars). Has the series evolved a lot since that game? All I've really seen from skimming videos is that Halo 5 has iron sights and the sound design on weapons is far more generic now.
Frankly I'd absolutely love to play the Master Chief Collection and ODST's re-release but...I am so biased against the Xbox One it's not even funny. Maybe with Microsoft seeming to prioritize Windows 10 as a platform to work with the Xbone rather than separate from it, we'll see the mainline series make its way to PC (I know they're def experimenting with that one Halo shoot-em-up on Steam, Halo Online being tested in Russia, and Halo Wars being confirmed for W10, but I wanna see the actual games here, come on man).

Halo 1 and 2 are on PC, and they are hinting at X360 on PC compatibility, so Halos 3 and 4 are at least on the table..
Halo 4 was a bit of a departure from the original trilogy, as was to be expected. We can't expect a multi-million dollar game series to keep the same gameplay concepts for 15 years, spanning 3 hardware generations. The series has evolved, but I wouldn't say for the worse. I really liked Halo 4's story.
I won't get Halo 5 for at least another month, but I've heard the story is polarizing. Usually this means it's good, a bland story is just boring. Quite frankly, in comparison, the original trilogy was boring.
I don't know why you're biased against the Xbone.. But if you like Halo, just bite the bullet I'd say. It's not like the PS4 is any better.. Any decent PC puts the two to shame.

I actually have fond memories playing the first Halo on PC. The modding scene was crazy back then. It was like the wild friggin' west, and from what I've seen it's stayed the same but with less and less nowadays.
I'm only biased against Xbone bc MS dropped the ball hella hard with it. Shitty policies (that they at least did change), weak line-up the last year or so, and just an unappealing setup to me. The first few months of hearing all its issues are still fresh with me (plus I'm still stung on MS denying my warranty after the only 360 I've owned died).

Phil Spencer is doing a fantastic work with the Xbone considering what a fucking disaster of a console it was when it was first announced.
Anyway, 343's attempts to dramatize the characters just feel hackneyed and forced. At least Bungie had a sense of rule of cool and urgency. This melodrama is just meh. And the new characters suck, I just to play with Master Chief.
Much better than Halo 4, though. That was the absolute lowest point in the series.

I think Halo 4 has a deeper story than the previous games. Much better characters as well.

Are you complaining about the gameplay or the story?
Within context it's like you're saying a book is shit because you have to turn the page to read the ending. Please make yourself clear

Wow, that was a terrible analogy. And I'm talking about the whole package, of course. The only good thing about Halo 4 is that it looked like Metroid Prime in HD since the art director of the MP trilogy worked on it. 4's plot is again melodramatic and it started destroying Halo's gameplay and its multiplayer identity for the sake of leeching what's popular in e-sports nowadays.
Halo 5 managed to find a balance between the 2 in terms of gameplay and I think they did a great job overall except shafting split-screen but the story is what I said, not in the mood for all of these original characters and Cortana dying but not dying because she's now evil but not evil because she's doing it for the greater good and Master Chief is so conflicted inside his helmet, oh no.
-
From what you were previously saying I had understood you dislike the story because for some reason it was destroying the gameplay. It didn't make much sense.
I like that they are going for a more meaningful story, other than "hurr saving the galaxiss durr"

Without mentioning spoilers, the Halo 5 story was pretty cool. The commercials and trailers were incredibly misleading though. They promised some big epic rivalry between Master Chief and Locke but it was barely in the game. But still, an improvement to how Halo 4 handled story. Big cliffhanger at the end, but I'm one of the few people that doesn't really mind.
Halo 4's story had some great concepts, but it was not presented well in the cutscenes. Motives were vague, and certain parts were confusing. Only after reading up on some expanded universe stuff can you truly get a good understanding of what was going on. Also, the Didact and the Librarian showing up ruined the mystery of the Forerunners. It would have been fine to JUST have the Prometheans as they were essentially just rampant AI.
Cortana's descent into rampancy, and her and Cheif's personal story were interesting though.

I want to play this game so bad...

Finished the campaign a few days ago.. I thought it was good, not great. I agree with Dr. Sega, they played up the rivalry between Chief and Locke a lot more than they showcased. One thing i didn't care for was hardly being able to play as Chief, i think he was in like 3 missions? The direction they took Chief/Cortana's relationship was interesting.. Certainly not what i would have expected.
The multiplayer is fucken solid as usual. Loved playing snipers/shotguns over the weekend, could do this for days.
