"The new company, SAI, remains a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sega Interactive, a division of Sega Sammy Holdings. The oldSega Amusements Europe (http://intergameonline.com/coin-op/news/14377/eas-debut-for-new-sonic-redemption-games)had a territory consisting of Europe, the Middle East and Africa, plus Russia and the Americas. Now it will take care of the whole world except for Japan itself. The official release said: “By leveraging the company’s strengths in innovation, creativity and research and development, SAI is already looking forward to producing a range of products tailored for these new markets. Dedicated R&D teams based in the UK and US will be headed by senior game producer Ogasawara, renowned for the development of Transformers and Let’s Go Jungle, who will be based in the UK.”The company’s headquarters will remain in London, as it is seen as a central timezone for international coverage. Current COO Paul Williams will become the new CEO of SAI. “We are extremely optimistic about the future for the entire out-of-home entertainment industry,” said Williams.“The chance to grow into these new markets presents us with exciting opportunities we fully intend to maximise.”

This is significant. Very significant and excellent news for Sega and its investors, investing into rebuilding SEGA's Core Arcade business Globally is the first HUGE step into reviving and rebuilding SEGA's brand name as whole. Showing the world who they really are and helping to explain to young gamers the type of brand they used to be in the 80s and 90s. This echos what SEGA Holdings,Ltd President  Haijime Satomi said in July in Famistu.SEGA can tell the World what kind of BRAND they are and always have been. Arcades can make a comeback. Casual Gamers,PC Fanatics(who already view SEGA favorably) & Veteran console gamers who are dissatisfied with the current market and SICK to death of Call of Duty can be drawn back to Co-Op games,Local Multiplayer games, party games, VS games.Arcades themselves have continued to thrive in Japan,Middle East and in parts of Europe, but SEGA going back to their core market means they're getting their identity back and shedding this "hasbend console maker who just publishes games" label.

I see strong potential in this move. Perhaps using its Super War Power of Arcade technology is the first proper step in returning   to the home consumer business and rebuilding that lost market. What are your thoughts? Perhaps SEGA can become cutting edge again with its bread and butter. Perhaps consumers will see no problem with the D&B payment method of loading currency on Electronic cards. Perhaps VR can make an proper comeback in Arcades.

Here's hoping for Sega to start localizing their newer arcade games like Border Break and VF5, the last arcade game they've localized was Project G.H.O.S.T (which is worse than Ghost Squad) back in 2012.

I believe Sega Amusements International will start localization assignments very soon. This also means, the days of importing Arcade boards and games from SEGA are coming to an end. The days of Exporting are returning.

Very cool news indeed.  Are there any hints at Sega maybe making new arcade hardware?  Possibly something VR-related?  VR (true VR mind, like full body immersion and not just with a headset) would be PERFECT for arcades, and who better to lead the charge but Sega?

At the very least hopefully it means a new Virtua Fighter's coming along or maybe even a new Outrun or Top Skater.  Please make a powerful full-body immersion VR arcade system, Sega!

Just Club Sega Shibuya closed, and based on this list there are still a lot of physical locations: http://www.sega-entertainment.jp/shop/shop_list.html#n02

No clue why they closed, though as mentioned in the news post, the Shibuya station is undergoing a massive remodel and Club Sega sits just moments away. Also, I have heard that arcades in general are not doing well in the Shibuya area.

They're just having to make changes in their arcade division. It's no big deal or surprise really as these quick type of wallet drainer games can now be found on smartphones.

Basically SEGA need to focus on new and unique Arcade games that can not be done anywhere else... For example that Sand game they have.... Anything with interesting controls or arcade cabs that make arcade games unique.

Fantastic news! I also believe that you mentioned this in another thread about predicting that they will come back with this.

I honestly hope Arcades become a thing again, even if it does stay as a niche thing.

Yes and some new Tech too. SEGA Japan just needs to make some games that would make people want to go in the Arcades . VF 6 would be a start. I also really feel that SEGA needs to make some new cab's like the G-Loc 360 cab. Maybe not so extreme , but something that could only be done in the Arcades .

I used to love the sitdown AfterBurner II cab , it made you want to go to the Arcades imo

Don't quote me on it but I think a recent game, Transformers maybe... Is using a slightly advanced 360 G-Loc cab.

    Edit: Yep

SEGA needs more Arcade games like that imo. That the sort of experience only a Arcade can give you and the whole industry needs more stuff like that
