Things are starting to get really interesting over at the Sega tower. REALLY interesting.

Interesting, wonder what it could be about. That description tells us nothing, that is literally everything SEGA already does. Hopefully we find out more soon.

Yup and everything SEGA used to do as "Sega Enterprises,Ltd"
Sega Interactive,Ltd is SEGA's Japanese Arcade and Amusement division, yet Sega Amusements International was just announced as SEGA'S overseas Arcade and Amusement division. This means that if there's a Sega Interactive International, I'll have a completely different purpose besides Arcades.
http://recruit.sega.jp/fresh2016/vision/segainteractive/
http://sega-interactive.co.jp/
We'll learn soon what this means.

I'll tell you what it ISNT... It isn't a games console, home or handheld... No idea why people still think this will ever happen. Consoles are dying and SEGA has no chance of gaining market share from the big 3 nor do they care too.

A WIPO/Madrid Application is not designed for one product. It's for International Business. Japanese companies apply for WIPO applications whenever they undergo brand name changes and reorganize to change business. The descriptions listed mean that the brand will be involved in some form of home consumer hardware at some point in time.
"controllers for video game machine; headphones; stand alone video output video game machines; home video game machines; hand-held games with liquid crystal displays; hand-held games with liquid crystal displays;design of machines, apparatus, instruments, parts and fittings thereof in the field of video games;stand alone output game machines; parts and accessories of arcade video game machines; apparatus for games; controllers for game consoles;"
SEGA has absolutely no interest in the current home console business. They aren't even focused on Sony and Microsoft at all. They however are interested in creating their OWN market of home consumer video gamers. Which is why they are investing into expanding their Arcade and Amusement business worldwide.
Consoles ARE dying out, which is why Sega Holdings wants to create a NEW and different market of gamers with Mobile,PC and Arcades. Creating a new and different market with a new consumer base opens the door for a new demographic.
Sega Games,Ltd is moving towards the point where they will eventually stop publishing titles for other console platforms. Its simply not very profitable and has become too competitive for them. The markets I just mentioned fare far better for Sega.
-
It seems like they are simply covering all bases and possible business directions in the future. I don't see any hint that they'll actually do any of these things. I think of SEGA were to make any home hardware it might be something like a tablet... But I don't see it happening, personally.
-
They also do Toys...tough Sega Toys is seperate.
Sega's "Amusement Machine" segment is broad. It's not just games. It's devices in venues pretty much.

From the sounds of it, Sega possibly has been considering developing a Ultrabook style hybrid for several years or something alongside those lines. The patents and concepts can be read about on this fanmade petition:http://www.thepetitionsite.com/123/691/697/to-the-new-management-of-sega-of-america-and-sega-holdingsltd/#sign
Its something they possibly have been considering.
I'm pretty sure SEGA is moving in a new business direction of some sort regarding their core Arcade business . The company wants to start becoming profitable in its stronger more broad markets. They wouldn't have filed the WIPO application if the option wasn't on the table and they certainly wouldn't have changed their name and completely restructured. The WIPO is when a company is serious about ideas and new market venues. Once designation takes place, the ICs & Goods & Services go into actual Worldwide commerce use.
They also do Toys...tough Sega Toys is seperate.

Yes, I'm aware of that. SEGA also runs Theme Parks overseas.
People keep forgetting that Sega is first and foremost an Arcade Amusement company and think all they do is publish underperforming game titles.
The core business is where all the great things like hardware come from. SEGA has never built consoles or home consumer products from the ground up.
-
This was part of their April 1st restructuring: https://www.segasammy.co.jp/english/pdf/release/20150212_organizational%20restructuring_e_final.pdf
Wish SEGA's Amusement hardware designers got a chance to make console/PC/mobile accessories. I think it would be cool having a SEGA branded controller for new consoles that had a great D-Pad like the SEGA Saturn. Is that too much to ask for?
Isn't it weird that SEGA is expanding Arcades even tho their... like slumping?
-
The only sense of growing is they want to license Orbi out more into the world.
Arcades are not the focus anymore, its like their toy or animation stuff. Just sticks around, for novelty sake.
"Sega Games" is the main business, where all growth from other division is channeled through...there is a reason why the son is in charge of it...it's a successor thing.
-

Namco Bandai and Taito have recently made very elaborate new cabinets, too - although I have no clue how many units they've manufactured.

Sega Games,Ltd is basically the remnants of Sega Corporation,Inc. Sega Games is a division, not Sega's main business. SEGA Holdings,Ltd is the mothership and new main holdings parent company of Sega Sammy and Kabushiki Kaisha Sega.
Arcades are indeed the MAIN focus. And still are. Also Haruki Satomi is running the Sega Games division. But Haijime Satomi & Naoya Tsurumi are STILL in charge of SEGA Holdings.
Sega is expanding its Arcade business globally because its their CORE brand and business. That's never going to change. Its they're bread and butter.

I'm very optimistic if not excited about the new direction of SEGA. I believe they'll eventually make hardware products and accessories again. They're going to do something completely different from everyone else. SEGA always pioneered. Tried something before anyone else.
That's what excites me. SEGA doesn't have to follow everyone else. They can make a game product stand out as completely unique, innovative and never done before.
Don't forget the promo video on their Sega 2016 website. "Unique products no one else can create ".
SEGA is making the right steps in becoming MORE laser focused on Arcades then they ever had in 20 years. Console gaming is a former shell of itself. A souless, oversaturated cottage industry full of dry ideas and redundant franchises. Its time for an Arcade industry resurrection. I would LOVE to see Arcades make a full comeback.

The future is PC. Bear with me......
Microsoft is already heading their Xbox ideal towards computers. Their vision has always been a living-room game-focused computer. With Windows 10 they are bridging the gap. SteamMachines are a first step the other way around: computers coming close to consoles.
Well, arcades these days are simply very gaming optimized PCs. Sega is pretty fucking good at this, they may as well be the best at making arcade machines right now.
Past Sega consoles based themselves in Arcade architecture (System16, Model2, NAOMI). What this is hinting at is a future with gaming-focused livingroom Sega PCs. Sega exclusives developed for these machines released at the same time for PC.
Completely shifting away from regular console development could be an intelligent move if the PC offer is good enough. They could focus development on this one platform. The games would run on a normal PC anyway, and PC games could run on the Sega machine through Steam or whatnot. But we could have dedicated Sega hardware (machine, controllers) and online infrastructure (a new age Dreamarena of sorts, think Live meets Steam).
It would be pretty nifty. Valve is pretty much doing this already, but it could be perfected.
Why would this happen though? Fresh leadership.
Something very similar just happened at Toyota recently. Toyota cars had been shallow, safe, grandad vehicles for years when the company decided to give Tetsuya Tada a chance to lead his own project.
What did he make? A fucking sports car, the GT86. A pretty good one at that, the first one in over a decade from Toyota.
The reason was a simply "wouldn't it be cool to make a sports car?"
Sega has new leadership, a young man with fresh ideas that in matter of weeks changed the company's whole philosophy (for the better!). It's not hard to imagine someone that has the love for the craft to simply start a board meeting with "wouldn't it be cool to have our own hardware again?"
I think it would be pretty cool. Although it's a very far out dream, it's not as impossible as it seems: dedicated Sega hardware, a departure from traditional consoles, a step into the true future of gaming-focused PCs
-
I have been ranting for awhile about PC going to eventually take over consoles, I even did a article last year about why SEGA fans should jump on PC:

Both you and George make fantastic points and I agree 100%. SEGA has become a very PC centric publisher the past several years. Probably the main Japanese PC publisher. Alien Isolation did far better on PC than on Playstation 3/4 and 360/Xbox One. And Valkriya Chronicles's Steam release was a surprise out-of-nowhere sleeper hit. Selling far better than its slept on 2008 PS3 exclusive release. I'm very confident Lost World's PC release is going to do well.
SEGA designed its Ringedge 2 and Sega Nu boards to be optimized better and have much better performance than PS4/Xbox One. Jaguar in itself is a very low key chipset used for very cheap laptops. It's clockspeed and CPU performance is on par with Intel Duo Core Wolfdale which came out in 2009. RE2's Clarkdale is a first Gen Core i3 processor that's pretty solid in speed and optimization. Nu uses i3 Ivy Bridge which is much faster than AMD Jaguar. Considering that SEGA HAS indeed used mid range PC hardware for its boards, the idea of them designing a PC friendly game console device either Notebook/Ultrabook based or even similar to the Steambox idea is not out of the realm of possibly. It's very likely they could take that route.
SEGA also seems to always know what's the best spec performance for its PC ports or developed titles. The idea of SEGA becoming more and more PC friendly is a fantastic prospect.
I believe a Notebook/Ultrabook themed platform is the best idea and best option. Built in OLED screen. A Built in Keyboard, Wireless Mouse and USB compatibility, Wireless Saturn controller with modifications, Wireless 6 Button Dreamcast pad with SDHC cards instead of VMUs. Steam compatible. HDMI/CEC TV output. More digital interface functionality, Windows 8.1 or a special modified Windows 8.5. The idea of selling a game console designed like a Ultrabook with mid range second gen Core i5 Sandy Bridge and a Nvidia GeForce 640 or 680 GTX GPU is an ingenious one. It could easily be sold for under $300 and SEGA could easily make it Dreamcast BC with Emulated Saturn ROMs and also do a media format in a similar style to Sony's UMD. There's plenty of PC builds 3X times more superior than PS4. Even my Tecra is still better performing and much faster.
I look forward to seeing what new line of Arcade boards SEGA's got coming next. With Lindbergh and RingWide officially obsolete. The hardware specs will definitely give us a clear idea what type of a PC build SEGA would prefer for the home consumer market.
I have been ranting for awhile about PC going to eventually take over consoles, I even did a article last year about why SEGA fans should jump on PC: http://segabits.com/blog/2014/04/24/why-its-the-perfect-time-for-sega-gamers-to-join-the-pc-master-race/ (http://segabits.com/blog/2014/04/24/why-its-the-perfect-time-for-sega-gamers-to-join-the-pc-master-race/)
The PC master race has been much more kinder to SEGA than the console warriors. They've reviewed games positively and generally have good things to say about them. Sega PC titles have also done exceptionally well lately. I believe this is because most of Sega's hardcore fans have migrated to PC and Steam. SEGA should indeed become heavily PC focused and put out its best title output on the PC.

It's just going to be really sad for you, EnternalHope, when SEGA don't do what you seem to be pinning your hopes on. People like you have been finding 'proof that SEGA are about to make new hardware' for literally 15 years now and time and time again nothing comes of it.
SEGA don't need to release any sort of new device for them to be great, all I care about are great SEGA games, not the box I play them on.

SEGA don't need to release any sort of new device for them to be great, all I care about are great SEGA games, not the box I play them on.
Sega is making the right moves. In 2000 Sega Enterprises,Ltd became Sega Corporation,Inc, the name change was so that Sega could shift into software.
In 2015, Sega Corporation,Inc(mostly a game publisher) was dissolved and split into 3 parts, Sega Games,Ltd, Sega Interactive,Ltd and Sega Holdings,Ltd. All core divisions and parts of SEGA pertaining to their gaming business and trade.
The name change certainly means a new business direction. Unlike others, I know about how International Trade and International Bureau works. https://unngls.org/index.php/engage-with-the-un/un-civil-society-contact-points/171-world-intellectual-property-organization-wipo (https://unngls.org/index.php/engage-with-the-un/un-civil-society-contact-points/171-world-intellectual-property-organization-wipo) so I won't be sad, because I know that the WIPO itself should never be taken with a grain of salt. It promotes international business trade. If it were what you assume, then it wouldn't be filed in the WIPO or under 66A Madrid. It would have instead been filed under the US Trademark office as a 44E "Bonafide Intent To Use". If anything, The WIPO means the company will designate business changes on all of its divisions and jurisdictions.
SEGA hasn't filed any paperwork pertaining to hardware development and design in a long, long time. The Sega Sammy application(now cancelled) had no such descriptions:
https://trademarks.justia.com/790/40/sega-sammy-79040246.html (https://trademarks.justia.com/790/40/sega-sammy-79040246.html)
As far as I'm concerned, the games are only great when they sell and make money. And that's what they should be doing. Sega the past few years literally publishes so few consumer console game titles that its clear to anyone that their 3rd party business won't be in existence much longer.(Altus is certainly going to take over ALL 3rd party reigns and operations pretty soon.) Sega titles are selling and performing better on PC,Mobile and Arcades, because that's where they belong and where people care for the brand. They don't belong on other consoles and most console gamers don't remember or care for Sega's past. They'd be happy if their favorite manufacturer brought out Sega's library.
But its not very relevant anymore. SEGA is an Arcade brand first and foremost so its biggest and greatest experience come solely from that.
To me, SEGA is a business. Not a low key publisher. They need to make money and the direction they're going in, they certainly will be.
Don't underestimate the Arcade business and the things SEGA does and can do with it. Remember, when it comes to Arcades, SEGA does things no one else can do.
-
Well, arcades these days are simply very gaming optimized PCs. Sega is pretty fucking good at this, they may as well be the best at making arcade machines right now.
If only it was that simple... Arcades have been using PC tech for decades and some of the 2 best corps that used PC tech for the Arcade was Konami and SEGA and yet these 2 have found it hard going on the console . SEGA with its Arcade background should have been the world leading Japanese develope for tech on the consoles, it sadly isn't and hasn't or wasn't been close this or last gen .
I've said this year back
Consoles are dying and SEGA has no chance of gaining market share from the big 3 nor do they care too.
I really don't get how you or the likes of Geroge can say that . Both the PS4 and X Bone are way ahead of what their predecessors sold both in Hardware and software terms that is a fact. The PS4 is way on corsue by the end of the life sell way more than the Mega Drive ever did and most prob outsell the Snes by a wide margin too the XOne will no doubt sell better than the Mega Drive at the end of its life... We you saying last gen that consoles are dead ? or the in the 16 bit days when no console ever came close to the sales of the NES ?
You just wait untill the PS4 hits the £100 sweet spot and see sales go through the roof. Even the XBox One will sell millions of units and easily outsell consoles like the Cube, X Box
People like you have been finding 'proof that SEGA are about to make new hardware' for literally 15 years now and time and time again nothing comes of it.
SEGA are not going to enter the market . They can't support or make enough AAA games as a 3rd party manufacturer, never mind trying to make enough AAA games to make people want to buy their console and that's with out the billions you need to developer and launch a console ..
The only ones with the billions and manufacturing to support a console worldwide would be the likes of Apple or Samsung
-
Right, all gamers are rising, just PC gamers are rising faster. Sony is doing great, so is Xbox. Nintendo not so much. Anything can happen in 5 years, remember the start of last generation and the end of it where completely different outcomes.
-

What does Konami actually do in arcades aside from music games...I dont know.
Namco Bandai and Taito have recently made very elaborate new cabinets, too - although I have no clue how many units they've manufactured.
Which ones would that be?

TA, that's why my sugestion mentioned moving away from the traditional console model.
Also, no one questions hardware sales, but rather how software is scarce, production values way too high, and profits increasingly slim.
Right now we have millions of people buying these consoles to play the same 2-3 games. It's just a way of keeping up with COD or whatever.
-
Right, all gamers are rising, just PC gamers are rising faster. Sony is doing great, so is Xbox.
Faster than last gen and the 16 bit gen Consoles aren't going anywhere . I also agree and have said for years SEGA should be backing the PC more, more so as all games start development life on the format these days . SEGA Japan used to have a great PC divsion and lines once but that was killed off (and one can't blame Sammy for that). SEGA Japan should lead on the PC with PS4 and One ports.
What does Konami actually do in arcades aside from music games...I dont know.
Konami moved to using PC tech for their Arcade boards before SEGA Japan, I'm not on about sales of Arcade games per say just the fact that Konami and SEGA moved to using pretty much 'off the shelf' PC tech decades ago and should have had a big advantage over 3td parties in Japan that only developed for and made games for consoles.
Yet to me the likes Fromsoftware, SquareEnix (ok I know they own TATIO) are in much better shape for consoles
-

Correct. Traditional console sales don't really matter. What I was saying is that SEGA is looking to bring in a new demographic of consumers: PC only gamers, casuals, and older veteran gamers burned out on consoles.(In which there's a whole lot of) And TA's claim is pretty false regarding SEGA's arcade tech. Lindbergh was introduced in 2005 and was hardware on par with PS3
(http://system16.com/hardware.php?id=731(This) http://system16.com/hardware.php?id=731 (This was a FULL year before PS3 even hit the market) if not slightly much faster and easier to program. Around the same time, the closest Arcade machine to Lindbergh was the Taito Type X, but Type X was much slower than Lindbergh and on par with 360.
TA, that's why my suggestion mentioned moving away from the traditional console model. Also, no one questions hardware sales, but rather how software is scarce, production values way too high, and profits increasingly slim.Right now we have millions of people buying these consoles to play the same 2-3 games. It's just a way of keeping up with COD or whatever.
TA's claims regarding SEGA's Arcade tech is pretty erroneous. RingEdge 2 is 3 years old. It was introduced in 2012. PS4 didn't launch until 2013. Nu was introduced in 2013, but for 2013, Nu is definitely a mid range PC build. SEGA has ALWAYS been ahead in the Arcade tech dept. They've NEVER been beaten. NEVER. In 1994, Namco had System 22 which was PS1 hardware, in '94 SEGA had Model 2, which was 3X times ahead of PS1 and slightly ahead of Saturn.
I consider the current console market irrelevant. SEGA doesn't need this generation of console gamers. Neither does Nintendo.(The Wii was proof of this.)
I agree regarding traditional consoles, its pretty clear that pretty soon the industry is going to cave in on itself and collapse like it did in the mid 80s. Consumers are eventually going to get tired of Call of Duty getting rehashed every year. DRM, overpriced DLC, shovelware open world gamers, Remastered re-releases, cash in indie un-original title, no co-op games, no games casuals and groups can play and overpriced retail titles.(I still refuse to pay $60-70 for a game that I know I'll return to the store once I beat it.) With the budget of games at an all time high, its bound to destroy many developers and bankrupt them.
Also, Japan needs to be the publishing kings again. They're the market that made the most noteworthy titles.

Eternal Hope, your name isn't 'Zack Morris' by any chance?
Naw. Nobody's heard a peep out of him in years.
I'm a DC-Talk user and hardcore Sega fan. Who's excited to see SEGA finally change course and move away from being mostly a software only publisher where people only care about what IPs they can port beg, then turn around and not buy and not about SEGA's core bread and butter Arcade technology and business.
I can't say I'll miss "Sega Corporation,Inc".
To Quote Haijime Satomi President and Chief Executive Officer of SEGA Holdings,Ltd
“Sega in the ‘90s was known for its ‘brand, but after that, we’ve lost trust, and we were left with nothing but ‘reputation. For this reason, we’d like to win back the customers’ trust, and become a ‘brand,’ once again.”
Famistu July 2015.
NOBODY has heard this kind of talk from SEGA in years.
-
A brand and new hardware aren't the same thing... I would much rather SEGA just continue pumping out great games for whichever device they think it best suits, than be restricted to one device.
-

I take this is you Joe ? Be nice if you could at least get your facts straight for starters who ever your are . Sorry for 1 thing System 22 wasn't PS based hardware at all (that was system 11) and for another Ridge Racer and system 22 which powered it came out months before Model 2 and Daytona USA. Looking over that , sorry to break to you but Tatio Type range of Arcade boards have been better than Sega PC based offerings. Sega Japan should have way ahead of most console developers in Japan (thanks to it use of PC tech) and yet bar it's brilliant showing on the Xbox and Cube and the odd magical looking 360 and PS3 game here and there , it hasn't been up to much last gen and been this gen hasn't so far have nothing of note (tech wise) worth showing

Lovely looking game . You again seem to misunderstand the point . Type X 3 highest end settings is more powerful than the current line up of Sega boards. That doesn't mean Tatio make better games or anything like that btw

TA I think you fail to grasp that its not the 90s anymore and having 'cutting edge' graphics card doesn't mean anything in arcades. Its about the experience more now than 'cutting edge'. Games on arcades make less money than the 80s and 90s and having higher tier hardware will not only cost SEGA, but potential developers MORE money that doesn't exist in this market. That is the reason that all arcade manufactures are making more mid-tier type mobile games (sadly).
It made sense in the 80s and 90s to push the boundaries of arcades via being the first to do a lot of things like texture mapping, physics and all that stuff because people spent money in arcades.
I don't mind the smaller arcade projects being done but SEGA is going to have to transition its arcade teams to do console, PC and mobile games instead of just letting the talent go.

This is why SEGA is stepping it up in the Arcade department. Since its almost 2016, it's pretty obvious SEGA's got new, cutting edge boards cooking up for AOU 2016.(RE2 will be 4 years old so its likely there's a RingEdge 3 and a RingWide 2). I can't wait to see what surprises SEGA has in store for AOU next February.
SEGA needs to reclaim their Arcade crown.
A brand and new hardware aren't the same thing... I would much rather SEGA just continue pumping out great games for whichever device they think it best suits, than be restricted to one device.
Your opinion is respected. But as for me, I want SEGA to succeed and GROW as a company. Not just as a publisher, but as both an Arcade giant and non gaming corporation. Too me, SEGA games are nothing if nobody buys them.
-
TA I think you fail to grasp that its not the 90s anymore and having 'cutting edge' graphics card doesn't mean anything in arcades.
Again way to miss the point . I'm only making the poin that Namco and the likes of Tatio make more powerful Arcade boards that's all. I'm not trying to make out that SEGA should be making more powerful Arcade boards than the consoles . Only some here say SEGA is a world leader and while for Arcade games, that is the case, for Arcade tech that isn't quite the case.
That's all

These two statements seem conflicting... Surely you see that their games being on more devices means more people will get a chance to play them? Let's say football Manager, one of the most played series of all time was moved from PC/Steam, PS Vita, phones and tablets to a single SEGA device... That would absolutely shit on sales figures and cause huge public outrage.

Sega games has been on many devices since 2002. Trouble is, in 2009, people stopped caring for them and buying them.
Again, SEGA needs to GROW an adapt beyond just a game publisher. That's not just what they are all about. I want them to become an even BIGGER company and make profit in all sorts of ways gaming wise and non gaming wise.

There WILL be a RINGEDGE 3 and RINGWIDE 2 soon.
Mark my words.
Also, NEVER underestimate what SEGA is capable of Arcade wise. There's a reason why their Arcade departments and divisions are regrouping and expanding.

Not true, SEGA have been doing far better recently than they were in the early 2000's and the games I mentioned sell incredibly well... SEGA are very invested in PC development and I see no indication of that changing. Hell PC only Warhammer Total War has 3 games coming out all the way into 2018...

What you want and what is really happening seem to be at odds. You're kidding yourself.
I'm not even sure why you are putting so much stock in Ringwide/edge boards they were nothing out of the ordinary.

I'm talking about the 3rd party consumer business in general. It hasn't posted any revenue or ROE since 2009. In fact, it started declining in profitability in 2007 shortly after the release of Sonic 2006. Maybe the reputation of the game started hurting Sega Corp's reputation as whole.
PC? If SEGA were to release another home consumer product of their own, it would NOT stop them from supporting the PC business. They did PC publishing back in the 90s as well. SEGA has pretty much embraced the PC gaming business and is currently the most PC centric Japanese publisher out there. Its too profitable and is where the majority of their most loyal and hardcore fans are.
Why am I with the RING series boards? Because its BEEN successful. It caused SEGA's Amusement Machine Sales' dept to start climbing in black. It was extremely profitable and really helped make large profit for SEGA's core business helping turn the operating losses Lindbergh and Europa-R were taking due to overpriced operating expenses completely around.
RINGWIDE was basically a super cheap low budget variation of Europa-R. It was for current gen games. RINGEDGE 1 was pretty cutting edge for 2009. This was 3 years before Wii U. RE1 was barely behind PS4's base performance. Remember, it got an upgrade in 2012. (The PS4 was over a year away).
It makes PERFECT sense for SEGA Interactive to keep focusing on the RING series line. Its made them MONEY. Upgrading them and developing more titles is a no brainier.

And when do you expect SEGA to reveal this new console? Give us a time frame?
-
Conisdering that SEGA dumped garbage like Aliens: Colonial Marines and Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric on consoles and neglects to advertise the better stuff, plus games on Steam just being a lot cheaper, yes I can see where the idea that SEGA fans liking PC would come from.
Of course, if you're interested in the Japan-only stuff, you may need to keep at least a PS4 on hand.

Aliens Colonial Marines had little to do with SEGA. Why are they being blamed for a game that they outsourced to Gearbox, took 7 years to develop because said developer dragged their feet and misused funds that belonged to SEGA and then CONNED people into thinking the game was amazing, only then to throw the publisher under the bus when buyer's remorse set in?
Rise of Lyric? I seem to recall alot of whining, complaining from Sonic fanatics about Lost World being too mediocre and DEMANDING that Sega make a Generations 2 or Quote "Have somebody else make a Sonic title besides Sonic Team". Like Colonial Marines, SEGA outsourced development of Sonic Boom.
ROL is the result of being overzealous and ungrateful. When you have immature tantrums from a generation of gamers who are double minded, self righteous and douchey, this is the result. You make you your bed. Those fans whining about ROL have nobody to blame but themselves.
SEGA NEVER neglected to advertise better titles. THEY did. They just didn't sell well at all. PERIOD. Why do you keep overlooking that?
PS4? Nope. The library is riddled with the filth of Western made garbage that's ruining the industry. Japanese support for PS4 is extremely niche especially with Sega Games.(makes sense because domestically the PS4 has sold dismally and has a very small install base and is now performing similar to Vita levels, which is NOT a good thing) All the better stuff is on Steam and Mobile. MAINLY Mobile.
And since Sega Networks,Inc is being outsourced across the States, nobody has to hope or complain about localization.
And when do you expect SEGA to reveal this new console? Give us a time frame?
When? Easy. When SEGA Holdings,Ltd opens for public trading and once SEGA Interactive,Ltd becomes fully established.
Basically when SEGA finds its consumer audience, gains more financial backing and investors and is done completely restoring their "Brand" thus shedding away Sega Sammy Holdings completely as the group completely transforms into SEGA Holdings.
I'd say in the next 2-3 years with the beginning as early as 2016 and late as 2018.

2016-2018.

ROL sucked. Sorry. Blaming players for the quality of the game is pretty ace, too. You've got a chip on your shoulder for some weird reason, and it shows.
-
Rise of Lyric's reason for existing is far more complex than simply blaming the fans, and in the end it was not the fan's fault. It was SEGA of America's and Big Red Button Entertainment.

It was Sega of America's fault for hiring and outsourcing an inexperienced developer. BigRedButton's fault for not handling the game's development table professionally and being completely incompetent in managing it and fanatics for convincing Sega to cause Sonic Team not to publish another Sonic console title. And Console Gamers for ignoring Sonic Generations for Call of Duty Modern Warefare 3 and for NITPICKING every little thing about Sonic. EVERYTHING.

Look can we agree the Sonic series is garbage and so are it's fans, then move along? It will save us 300 pages of awkwardly slapping each other.

The Sonic Series isn't really garbage. It just has a horrible fanbase that's gotten WAY too diverse(consisting mostly of furry manchildren like Chris Chan.) They are the reason why most of the time, Sonic has gotten a mediocre console game title release.
They're also the reason why Sega has been so inconsistent in releases of Sonic titles. They exasperate things with their whiny attitude and stir up scorn by the gaming community and press in general.
Runners is the first real step in the right direction. Towards a demographic that can make a difference.
-
What's wrong with a diverse fanbase? Every successful long running franchise eventually diversifies and has a variety of fans. Look at TMNT, Star Wars, DC and Marvel universes. The key is to have quality in the different branches.

Tell that to Tembo.

Yakuza 0, Bloodborne, and Nier Automata would like to have a word with you.

There's nothing wrong with diversity in any fandom.
But with Sonic's its a different story.
It's gotten out of control, too one sided and too elitist. You can't go anywhere without being harassed by the worst of the fandom, who consistently complain about the mediocre Sonic releases, whine about mobile hits like Runners and Dash, insult and berate people and other Sega fans who disagree with them, while again, nitpicking EVERY little detail about Sonic going as far as asinine, trivial things like his pupil color and character design.
The Sonic fandom in general has become a pariah. They are hated by the gaming public and often scorned and mocked. SEGA is taking the right steps in alienating these people. People like Richard Kuta represent the most dangerous and extreme elements of the fandom. He frequently harassed SOA to the point where it became criminal about a Sonic movie being made.
To put it lightly, Sonic's fandom has been invaded by too many freaks. Who I believe are too extreme, nihilistic, and one dimensional.
Back when I was in HS, the Sonic fandom was nothing like that. It was civil, it was open minded, it had positive identity, it had hope, good vibes.
