Title: Will we see SEGA Master System games on STEAM?
Post by: Artwark on December 30, 2015, 06:29:06 am
Hopefully next year, we'll be able to get more dreamcast and Genesis games from SEGA. But the most requested and probably the easiest one to add on that.....why can't we have SEGA Master System games as well?

I know I'm asking too much here....but considering that we managed to have Phantasy Star on Sonic's ultimate genesis collection, it might be a great idea to be able to port Master System games on Steam.

For those arguing that its unlikely to happen......isn't the master system still selling in Brazil to this date? I mean for crying out loud, I can't see why this is unlikely to happen!

Probably the odd title here and there, but that's about it. I doubt there's that much of a demand for them really.

There isn't enough demand for games that old anymore unless its a game with a long series, like Phantasy Star, Alex Kidd or Shinobi. Never say never but I'm not holding my breath.

Isn't there a huge demand in Brazil.....

Also, think about it for a second....how else can you play wonder boy 3? Also, How is it that there's a demand for the Game Gear and not for the Master System?

There is a demand in Brazil, which is being met by the continued production of Master System consoles. In fact the Master System is now the console with the longest lifespan thanks to Brazil - 30 years!

I've got to ask...how? Surely they know and have newer consoles there?

My understanding is that it's affordable, and has a strong nostalgia factor for parents who want to get their young kids a first console. Yes, there are new consoles there, but the Master System still sells something like 150,000 per year.

Who is making these Master Systems? Or is it all second hand sales?

All are made by TecToy.

I live in Brazil, and they're not actually made by Tectoy. All the Master System and Mega Drive units that are sold here nowadays are basically the same ones which Atgames (that Chinese company) sells all over the world. Tectoy just imports them and sells them with their brand. Of course, they are licensed by SEGA, but they are nothing like the original hardware. They're basically just an emulator in a chip that connects to your TV in a fancy plastic case. They have some built-in games (with some very questionable choices), and that's it. They don't have cartridge slots and are basically emulators. Tectoy doesn't sell the original hardware (regardless if it's refurbished or not) for more than 10 years.

About the games, I think it's very unlikely we'll see Master System games on Steam. Well, there are a lot of emulators for PCs, anyway. And they're actually way better than those contained in those aftermarket consoles we see nowadays.

Just make it a series of collections like the genesis ones on Steam.
I own these games in physical form, but pulling out the SMS and hooking it up to the never used tube TV in the spare room is a hassle, so I would buy these games if they were cheap enough.

Action Fighter
Choplifter
Cloud Master
R-Type
Rampage
Wonder Boy series
Master of Darkness
Phantasy Star
Shinobi
