Los Angeles – June 14, 2010 – Today, Ubisoft® announced the development of an interactive performance-based video game, inspired by the legendary King of Pop, Michael Jackson.  The game is family entertainment at its best and will provide an interactive experience that enables players to step into the shoes of Michael Jackson himself and re-live his most iconic performances through their own singing and dancing.  The upcoming game will include the most famous tracks from Michael Jackson's extensive catalogue such as Beat It and Billie Jean, as well as an array of his awe-inspiring dance moves for players to learn and emulate within the game. Additionally, fans will be able to sing along and test their vocal skills while immersed in the performance.

Michael Jackson, one of the most widely beloved entertainers and the most popular global icons of all time, leaves an indelible imprint on popular music and culture. During his extraordinary career Jackson sold an estimated 750 million records worldwide, released 13 No.1 singles and became one of a handful of artists to be inducted twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He won 13 Grammy Awards and received the American Music Award's Artist of the Century Award. His album "Thriller" is the world's best-selling album of all time with more than 110 million copies sold.

"Michael always pushed every limit when it came to technology to give his fans unforgettable entertainment experiences, whether it involved his videos, his recordings or his concerts.  Now, with this interactive product, we have the chance to bring Michael, the artist, into households around the world in a perfect match of Michael's artistry and the family entertainment which he always highly valued.  Kids, their parents, extended family members and friends will now have an opportunity to all come together and experience Michael's music and dance in an innovative, exciting and fun way," said John Branca, co-executor for The Estate of Michael Jackson.

Added Michael Jackson Estate Co-Executor John McClain: "No artist can energize a dance floor in the spirit of fun like Michael Jackson. His God-given gifts for music and dance are something new generations of fans will appreciate even more.  This game is a natural extension of what he would be doing today to raise his artistry to even greater heights for his fans of all generations. It is a game that the entire family can experience and enjoy together and this is something that would please Michael tremendously."

"We're delighted to have the opportunity to develop a game based on the songs and moves of one of the world's most incredible performers of all time," said Yves Guillemot, chief executive officer at Ubisoft. "We expect the game to bring Michael Jackson fans, families and friends together with the energetic song and dance of The King of Pop."

The game will be available for "Project Natal" for Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 system with PlayStation®Move support, PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system, Nintendo's Wii&tm; system and Nintendo DS&tm; handheld system, for holiday 2010.

Don't be so thick guys. This could actually turn out to be the one single dancing game that will ever matter.
It has also been in development for a long time, so it's supposed to be good.

Sony really dropped the ball on this one... I mean they literally OWN his work. How did any other publisher even get to look at it?

As for the game. Not interested yet, need to see footage of it first. I would hate for that Kinect dancing game to turn out better...

Michael Jackson has become the consumerism zombie, forced by puppet strings to get up and dance for profits even after dying as a disillusioned man with a broken heart.

'Cause this is THRILLER, THRILLER NIGHT!

nice pun, but the game was already in the making while he was alive.

And that changes the fact that they're aiming to profit off of a dead man because...? :P

It doesn't. But it's not like they are working on something that could've pissed off the deadman. They'll get as much money as they would if he was alive. It's not disrespectful.

You can say that, but it most definitely is morally and ethically questionable even still.

Oh well. DANCE, ZOMBIE PUPPET, DANCE!

Why? A game that he himself was excited to see released..
I find much disrespectful games based on actual wars for example. Still no one seems to care.. "lets shoot zombie nazis! yay!" how horrible

THRILLEEEER!

I do not think he would be too upset. A lot of the money from his estate is going to go to his children.

Besides, it is not like MJ was the most moral of people around to begin with. Not saying he was a bad guy at all or anything, but... Well you know what I mean.

I imagine it looking as smooth as Just Dance, so in my mind it looks pretty awesome right now. Won't start the hype machine until I actually see how it works though.

I've never tried a dancing game before. But I do like that kind of stuff..

Just dance is really innacurate, it's like watching a flash animation music video student project. It doesn't really matter if you hold the wii remote.

Does this support kinect?
That dancing game was pretty good running on it.

Kinect seemed to pull off dancing well, and I could see something like Dance Central translating well to a MJ game. If this turns out to be good, I just may get it. Fuck Beatles Rock Band, dancing with MJ is where it's at.

MJ, say "Ulala"!

"Youlala"

lolz. Oh MJ...

Michael Jackson was the greatest performance artist of all time. Was a fan back then, still a fan now. So glad to know that he was one of us, a Sega fan through and through. But hey, real recognizes real right?

What isn't comforting though, was his downfall, not because any of the allegations were true (they definitely were not), but because us the public were complicit in believing that they might be true and thus caused his downfall. The world is definitely a darker place now that he's gone.

The man was a once in a lifetime talent. With a genuine message of making the world a better place. Even as big as he was, he was still underappreciated.

Yeah, he's gone because the whole world's bullying him.
Even after he's dead, the a lot of people still speak ill of him on many Michael Jackson's article related.
Her daughter Paris had attempted suicide multiple times because of cyber bullying she got for being Michael's daughter.
Thanks to her residential therapy program, she could manage the internet hatred better now.

Quote
Paris Jackson was around nine years old when she realized that much of the world didn't see her father the way she did. "My dad would cry to me at night," she says, sitting at the counter of a New York coffee shop in mid-December, cradling a tiny spoon in her hand. She starts to cry too. "Picture your parent crying to you about the world hating him for something he didn't do. And for me, he was the only thing that mattered. To see my entire world in pain, I started to hate the world because of what they were doing to him. I'm like, 'How can people be so mean?'" She pauses. "Sorry, I'm getting emotional."

The Last Boss: Michael Jackson vs Stray Dogs

That game had it all; a Michael Jackson soundtrack, scrolling beat-em-up action and some great boss fights, not least of which was the legendary Stray Dogs.
The very first thing I did when fighting these dogs was test out the "dance them to death" move to see if it would work, needless to say, it does.
Yes, it seems that neither man nor beast can resist the musical styling’s of Michael Jackson, and each and every mongrel would jump on their hind-legs and start jamming to ‘Beat it’, then be sent flying off screen as Michael Jackson proved too much for them.

Quote
In 1990, Sega published a video game based on Michael Jackson’s movie Moonwalker, which started Jackson’s relationship with Sega.
It was around this time that the first Sonic game came out, and Jackson expressed to people at Sega how much he liked the game.
When SEGA developed NA version of Mega Drive (called Genesis), they gave Michael Jackson one before it's released, making him the first person in the U.S. to own a SEGA Genesis
In 1993, while in Los Angeles on his “Dangerous” world tour, Jackson was invited to visit Sega Technical Institute, where Sonic 3 was being developed.
While he was there, one of the developers asked him if he’d like to write some music for the game, he said yes, and the rest is history.
In the middle of production of Space Channel 5, in 1998 or 1999, SEGA got a call from Michael saying that he wanted to act in Space Channel 5.
Michael then makes a cameo appearance in Space Channel 5 near the end of the game as Space Michael.
He then had a more prominent role in Space Channel 5: Part 2 where he became the new head of Space Channel 5.

Mike Tyson reveals he ‘hated Michael Jackson’s guts’

“He broke my ego, he crushed me.''
“I said ‘No, I’m just a fan, pleasure to meet you, sir.'
He said, ‘OK’, and then he got out and went in the car.”
Tyson admitted he refused to let go of the snub for years until Jackson finally invited him to hang out - an offer initially rejected by the fighter.
He added: “I said ‘OK I’m coming, I’ll be over there’, right?
“So I got on a plane, went over there, hung out, and we just started hanging out together. And I said ‘F*** man, he’s a good guy.

Imagine how broken would it be to have Michael Jackson as a bard in an rpg.
Bro goes HEE HEE and all your units get insanely buffed.
Not only could he boost morale more than any other bard, but he'd dodge attacks like a pro :

He'll be broken considering bard is usually just a support, but Michael is a heavy attacker too due to his ability of changing into robots and spaceship.

Given his cameo in MIB2, imagine if that was brought up.

May be he's an alien since he's kinda immortal.
He's a 500 year-old reporter (later took the position of Chief after Blank) in Space Channel 5.
From Mars may be? Since this martian also had the kinda same power, to turn himself  into anything :

Digitised master footage of Michael Jackson in Scramble Training, a 1993 interactive ridefilm for the AS-1 motion ride simulator developed by Sega.
Thought to be lost even by Sega personnel themselves, the above footage - all localised segments made by writer/director Hiroshi Uemura and Kenji Sasaki, as well as filmed scenes of Jackson - was recently found on a D2 master tape sold at a car boot sale in the United Kingdom, and kindly digitised by the Oxford Duplication Centre after an appeal on Facebook was answered by Mechafatnick .

In 1988, Michael Jackson contacted Sega about developing a video game that would capture his persona.
Sega and Jackson then began working on an arcade video game based on his Moonwalker film and "Smooth Criminal" music video released that year.
A prototype unit was demonstrated at Mexico's American Amusement Machine Association (AAMA) exhibition in early July 1990.
Jackson assisted Sega's game designers on the development of the game.

For real. In the ultimate "What If...?" story, Jackson met with Stan Lee and businessman Peter Paul in 2000 to discuss the possibility of buying Marvel Comics.
As The Comics Journal reported, "Jackson, who was an avowed fan of Lee's work at Marvel, was reportedly interested and sat down with Lee and Paul to discuss the possibilities. [Jim] Salicrup, who was also present, recalls Jackson saying to Lee, 'If I buy Marvel, you'll help me run it, won't you?'" The deal ultimately fell through when the current owner refused to accept less than $1 billion.

Continuing a long-standing association with his favourite game-making company, Jackson agreed to become involved in the simulator between tour dates in late 1992, where he made further visits to Sega's Haneda headquarters, a noted favourite past-time of his when in Japan. Extraordinary negotiations are said to have taken place – the ‘King of Pop’ was closely involved in its creation, yet did not want to be paid for his involvement. He would, however, receive an R360 for his all-encompassing private arcade, where Sega’s machines had taken pride of place since the 1980s. Jackson would go on to appear in a pre-show for Megalopolis and starred throughout as the narrator/instructor of Scramble Training, with the title renamed and reworked with new contributions from Mizuguchi’s ‘Emotion Design Lab’ to reflect this.
By the Summer of 1993, the AS-1 was finally ready for release, with Michael Jackson in Scramble Training revealed at the Summer CES in the US and a trailer for Megalopolis making its aforementioned appearance at SIGGRAPH '93. At the end of the year, the simulators were installed in several of Sega’s newest, biggest, and brightest locations up to ...

The isometric one is better ... if it's played by two / three players.
It's designed as a multiplayer game.
For one player experience, the Mega Drive one is more fun.

Michael Jackson Surges Back Onto Multiple Billboard Charts

Quote
For many musicians whose heyday has passed, or who are no longer with us, landing just one placement on a Billboard chart is a big win. Keeping a career-defining single or perhaps a lifetime-spanning compilation on a single list shows that there’s still interest in an artist’s catalogue, and there are many well-known figures who can't manage even that performance each week.
Of course, Michael Jackson is not the average artist. He’s not even the typical legacy act. It’s not uncommon for him to appear on multiple charts with both songs and albums, which is exactly the case this week, but the focus is, as almost always, on the full-lengths.
Two of Jackson's albums appear on the Billboard rankings this time around. Both manage to find a home on more than one list, and ...

The delay with Michael has been twofold, one being its length — there was a first cut in excess of 3½ hours. There also have been reports that the initial cut of the movie made references to 13-year old Jordan Chandler, who accused Jackson of molestation and who the pop singer settled with for $20M in 1994 with no admission of guilt. While the screenplay by three-time Oscar nominee John Logan was developed, approved by the estate and shot to include Chandler, after production wrapped, it was revealed there was an agreement for him not to be included. Hence the production had to go back and ...

In a recent interview with designer Kazunori Sasaki with News Post-Seven, as reported on by MJ Vibe, Sasaki-san spoke about how he met with Jackson during his HIStory World Tour stop in Japan in December 1996 to do some photography and motion capture work for an unreleased game, presumably a new entry in Sega’s Digital Dance Mix game series for Saturn. The above photos of Jackson were taken during that shoot and were never publicly shown before. (The Ghost album cover has been available to the public for many years, but News Post-Seven just attached it to the pictures, for some reason.)
For those unaware, Digital Dance Mix was a planned series of rhythm games with each entry themed after a single popular singer. However, only one game in that planned series ended up releasing exclusively in Japan, based around the Japanese pop singer Namie Amuro. Apparently, she was popular enough to be known as the “Queen of J-Pop“, so she and Jackson may ...

🎶 “As he came into the window, it was the sound of a crescendo…” ⚡
37 years ago today, MTV debuted one of Michael Jackson’s most iconic videos, “Smooth Criminal.”

Recorded in 1987, the song was the seventh single from Jackson’s history-making album “BAD” and the centerpiece of his 1988 film “Moonwalker.”
Who can forget that gravity-defying lean he performed (and later patented for live shows using specially designed shoes that hooked into stage pegs)?
Decades later, both the song and video still hit as hard as ever!

🕹️ The success of “Moonwalker” inspired Jackson to team up with Sega to bring his magic to the gaming world.
The result was the 1990 arcade game “Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker” — an unforgettable beat ’em up that captured his style, swagger, and moves straight from the “Smooth Criminal” video.
The arcade version pulled in over $200 million in revenue before making its way to home consoles like the Sega Genesis and Sega Master System.
I’m not sure how many quarters I dropped into this bad boy back in the day, but it was money well spent! 🔥

While I never met the guy, to this day I feel a bit bad I brought into those accusations against him. (Though, I had a rather cynical view of the world at the time. I mean, Jimmy Saville lived a full, successful celebrity life and died with various honours. It was after his death what he truly was like came out and the public was none the wiser about it.)

Still, I recognise Micheal Jackson as one of the truest Sega fans out there.

Yep, Michael was definitely a SEGA true fan.
He also loves SEGA CD to the point he joined with SEGA to create content for it (plus for arcade too, Scramble Training, which is sadly canceled) through SEGA's Multimedia Studio.
He even thought Sonic 3 would be released for SEGA CD, that's why he's disappointed with the end result with the music in cartridge version and asked his name to be removed.

According to Ken's Horowitz' Playing at The Next Level (https://segabits.com/blog/2016/12/13/book-review-playing-at-the-next-level-a-history-of-american-sega-games/) (great book, very recommended), Michael's also known for his surprise visits to the SEGA of America offices.
He once significant time simply chatting with Al Nilsen about the studio and the differences between scoring music for video games and movies or music album.
During that visit, he heard some of the music tracks in development and was very pleased with the score to Ecco the Dolphin.
He then discussed it with the music programmer for around an hour.
Imagine ... just talking about "Ecco the Dolphin" game music for an hour.

He also once freestyled "Tides of Time" songs on the spot but unfortunately, none of his vocals were recorded.
Guess, he's just doing it for fun instantly on the spot.

Plus he's also a true Playstation hater.

Agree. The tabloids were eating him alive back then.
Social medias right now could be as worse too towards him.
In the last of his days he just wanted a quiet family time life with his kids but that seems impossible too.

His classic "Thriller" is usually a popular choice for Halloween. Both the song and the music video.

But let's not forget about "Ghost (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xh9Cp4rd7mI)" which is mostly a short film than a music video, but still has song, dance.
I thought that was Drew Carey playing the mayor, but turns out it was Micheal Jackson in makeup and fatsuit!

Yeah, Ghost has a cool "ghost-like" and "skeleton-like" dance choreography too.

But the theme of the song isn't as cool as Thriller.
Since it's talking about "ghost of jealousy" instead of real ghosts.

I thought that was Drew Carey playing the mayor, but turns out it was Micheal Jackson in makeup and fatsuit!

I wonder why would he went the trouble playing into major too while he could easily cast someone else.
That until he's start dancing.
