Early impressions with details have been pretty terrible. GameCube version of Sonic Adventure and no widescreen or any kind of online features, Crazy Taxi's music is different (heard some of the lyrics are like 'IM JUST A GIRL, WOOOOOAAAAOOOOH') and the stores like KFC are gone, no word on Crazy Box, either.
I guess at the worst, on the Xbox 360 version of Crazy Taxi you can put the real music in it, but KFC will be missed, and PlayStation 3 players are fucked.
-
Crazy Taxi on the PSP allows custom soundtracks, why the hell wouldn't the PS3 version?
Sonic Adventure we already knew for AGES that it wasn't going to be widescreen. And seriously if that's a major complaint of anyone, then this certainly isn't the game for them (cofHORRIBLEcofCAMERAcof).
Btw, is that No Doubt's I'm Just a Girl?? Cause if it has No Doubt and say.. Garbage or Blur as soundtrack it would be a fucking great improvement over Bad Religion.
KFC must not be the only one.. What about FILA? and that Record Store?
-
I'm sure all the licensed ones would be gone, Offsping will be dearly missed, they were so iconic of that game. I can't picture playing Crazy Taxi without 'All I want' blaring in the background.
I might still get CT if Crazy box is still there. If Crazy Box is missing then...
Fuck.
You.
Sega.
-
It's nice to hear that Offspring and Bad Religion are gone.
So what online features would you want from Sonic Adventure?
-
No Offspring and Bad Religion = no buy. (assuming this is true)
I can't believe some folks are happy to see the original game getting butchered!
-
I'm sure all the licensed ones would be gone, Offsping will be dearly missed, they were so iconic of that game. I can't picture playing Crazy Taxi without 'All I want' blaring in the background.
.
I do like the All I Want song. There was nothing sweeter than booting up Crazy Taxi on your Dreamcast and hearing the "Yah Yah Yah Yah Yah"
-
Well, I did like Offspring, but not Bad Religion..
wohoho! it's time to make some caraaaaaizy money are yall ready? here. we. GO! YAH YAH YAH YAH YAH
-
I will personally send the original Crazy Taxi soundtrack to any SEGAbits member with a 360. I don't like to see fans suffer.
Okay, for the sake of legal reasons, I'm joking. But... ;)
-
But I won't buy this anyway. My Dreamcast is 30cm away from my PS3 so... :P
But it would be awesome if more people would get to play the game! I hope it's a direct port of the DC version.
-
It is complete bullshit about Crazy Taxi's music and it is clear to me whoever is running the project never cared about the game to begin with.
The "YAH YAH YAH YAH YAH YAH" at the beginning of the game is literally iconic and cannot be replaced in any form at all. It cannot even cost much to get their money, either, seriously. It is incredibly annoying I need to edit the game myself for me to even enjoy it much at all... Fuck.
This is like when they took the "BLOOOOP" sound out of Sonic's jump, then gave it exclusively to Amy in Sonic Heroes, then it was never heard again. Seriously, even if people who have only ever had a passing interest in a game and have not even played it for over ten years and can instantly identify that something is wrong, you fucked up bad.
-
You guys will not buy a game that offers custom soundtracks because it does not have shitty Bad Religion or Offspring?
Here I was planning on turning them off. I dislike their music.
-
Ya'll is crazy :afroman:
I want a version of All I Want in the game by The Doctor, Mr. docfuture:
http://www.viddler.com/explore/Docfuture/videos/7/ (http://www.viddler.com/explore/Docfuture/videos/7/)
guess what system that game is for!
-
Losing the licensed stuff doesn't faze me that much. The soundtrack was really memorable, but after a while I turned it down because it got grating. As for the stores, I'm not that into product placement to begin with. Tower Records went out of business so obviously that'll be gone. And if companies like KFC are no longer willing to pay for their product placement, screw 'em. The game is what matters, and having it in HD is gonna be great. The original version remains pretty easy to obtain anyhow.
-
I do hope we get custom soundtracks.
I put Wip3out's music on Wipeout HD. It's freaking great. I love when they allow you to do this. And since I've imported almost my entire CD collection to the PS3, I'd like to take advantage of that!
(offtopic: have you noticed that when you insert a Sega Saturn game in your PS3 not only it let's you import it's soundtrack but also fetches the name of most famous games? It's pretty nice..)
-
How to improve Crazy Taxi's soundtrack:
[youtube:2ime6ymt]m6u7xdSpt2E[/youtube:2ime6ymt]
[youtube:2ime6ymt]A5RHEWsHX0c[/youtube:2ime6ymt]
Hey, look! The game is suddenly listenable. ^__^
-
Vacuums suck. Sega Dreamcast games don't!
-
I get some of you hate the Offspring, lets not argue music taste. I could just as easily insult George's Wolves in the End of the World Viking Lovers Cut Myself and Fall off A cliff (FOr your Heart) and Die In a Hole Because BLEAKness Rules (Where Angels Fear to Tread (With you Babe)) underground rock band stuff and fluffy likes Bentley Jones.
But it's not about what music we like or dislike, it's that I just cannot picture Crazy Taxi without that 'YAH YAH YAH YAH YAH' Blaring out when you press start, or even the bass-line from Americana thumping through the options screen.
Just like Barry and CrackDude said, for better or worse we associate that music with the game, and without it, it's just not the same. Could you imagine if Jet Set Radio didn't have the same music? Even Birthday Cake is iconic of JSRF for me, and I HATE that song.
I'll be willing to use custom tracks to make up for this blunder, BUT if Crazy Box is gone, then I have no idea what Sega is thinking and I hope that the building with all their plans for Dreamcast ports and all the data goes up in a grease fire inferno (not while anyone is in the building, I don't want to KILL Them, just stop their shitty ports that have no place in this world).
-
SHUT UP AND EAAAT
TOO BAD NO BON APPETIIIT
SHUT UP AND EAAAT
YOU KNOW MY LOVE IS SWEEEEET!!
I love that song!
What I was thinking is this is some kind of ARCADE port. Arcade machines didn't have Crazy Box. I hope it's DC.
-
Arcade Port? You may be right, but... Holy shit Sega, how fucking stupid are you guys if this is true. You have a perfectly good Dreamcast game with more features available (and it's probably easier to port) and you go with arcade?
Unless this is some serious bullshit like
Crazy Taxi - 800 Points
Crazy Box DLC - 240 Points
-
fluffy likes Bentley Jones.
Woooow, that's all you can come up with? =P I've listened to a much wider variety of music than any of you guys, I bet.
Normally this would be the time I would say something like "The reason I don't like The Offspring is because I'm not a dumb teenager", but even when I was a dumb teenager, I didn't like them very much. They will not be missed.
-
All I can come up with? I just said you liked him, and you do don't you? I don't care what music you've listened to, the fact is we all like stuff others will hate.
No need to get offended, I was just saying we all have different taste in music so lets not start arguing it here. We like the soundtrack because it's tied so strongly with the game we love, and losing it in a remake/port is a big deal for us.
-
I get some of you hate the Offspring, lets not argue music taste. Err none of my bands have anything with 'heart' and 'babe' in the name. You are thinking of emo bands. Wolves in the Throne Room is not a emo band.
I'm sorry I don't like Bad Religion and Offspring.
-
I like Offspring. When you go to the beach with a bunch of friends all stuck in a minivan with the speakers blastin. That's the shit right there.
-
Again, I don't see how not having KFC and Offspring will make the game suck. It supports custom soundtracks (at least on 360).
As long as the gameplay is there, I don't see too much of an issue. If it had Platinum Trophy like Thrine and Wipeout....
-

I'm sorry I don't like Bad Religion and Offspring.
I didn't mean to imply they were Emo at all, sorry if you took it that way.
I was just making a joke about the odd names they have, I swear there was something about falling off a cliff in your MSN 'now playing list' a while back.
I didn't realise people get so riled up over music, It was just a joke. I didn't say anything like they were 'shitty' or that they are 'un-listenable' like you and Fluffy said. I'm surprised that you both got so upset over my comments.
Anyway, I'm truly sorry if I offended or upset either of you with my comments, it wasn't my intention. Now lets get back to discussing crazy Taxi.
Will it at least have the 'work for 10 minutes' option, or just the arcade mode I wonder?
-
People get shot doing this shit. Watch your shit, cuz I'm gonna pack it up your ass with my dick!
I think the worse news is that Sonic Adventure does not support widescreen. I mean, really?
-
No Widescreen is just... crap.
Do we know who is porting this yet? It's not BackBone is it?
-
Hey George, I'm still wondering what kind of online gameplay you were expecting with Sonic Adventure.
-
Online gameplay? When did I saw I expected it?
Though I guess, if we are on that topic, doesn't DX have a kart racer? Chao garden stats online?
Lets not get ahead of ourselves, the game does not even support widescreen.
-
The only thing you could do back in the day was post level time trials on the global leaderboard on DreamArena I think..
-
Chao trading would have been a pretty cool online component.
(And VMU support)
-
Chao trading would have been a pretty cool online component.
(And VMU support)
WHAT?
You do not trade chao in such unorthodox way!
You have to go through the whole process of tenderly comforting your chao in your VMU and releasing him on the new owner's garden.
They have feelings you know...
-
Playing VMU minigames on PSP would be pretty cool. SEGA would not do stuff like this sadly.
-
I'm pretty sure the only thing they'll be adding are trophies to these two at least.
I've already got Sonic Adventure on Dreamcast and Gamecube, and Crazy Taxi on Dreamcast, Gamecube and PSP, so I probably won't be picking up these ports either way.
-
fluffy likes Bentley Jones.

Thought just came to mind. Redeem yourself. You're gay yes? That means you must be a diehard Kylie Minogue fan. Please. Tell me you are. I'm 2 for 2 on questioning gay buddies on this.

Lol, I can't say that I'm a huge fan of her work. The only thing I really like is how you can lower the pitch on "I Should Be So Lucky" and it'll sound like a Rick Astley song.
And oddly enough, I had an old Rick Astley album long before "Rick Roll" became an internet meme. ^^;;;
-
Why KFC is out? Who pay who on those things?
I know that in Yakuza, Sega has not made any money doing advertises for the real companies in the game. They promotes the game, Sega promotes them in the game.
Coca-Cola is the "official" drink in Shenmue, but not in the Western version of it; why? It is not better for these companies showing their products and marks on the games? Or the games companies have to pay them for that?
-
I like Kylie Minogue. I'm not gay.

You like Lady Gaga though.

We're a rare breed. *hug*
On topic though, yeah I'm kind of pissed out they're half-assing their rereleases. First they won't make the new Daytona a Daytona game and are chopping up the music, and now Crazy Taxi isn't going to have places like KFC or the same music?! Give me a fucking break!
-
You forgot that they aren't even making these widescreen.
-
Crazy Taxi is widescreen.
-
Isn't Crazy Taxi just stretched to widescreen?
-
I seriously couldn't care less about widescreen.
-
Was this posted here?

-
Yup looks pretty damn wide screen to me.
The only thing that looks like it's stretched is the HUD, which is normal in rush job SEGA games.
-
Well I was bringing to attention the changed music, but now that I look closer, I suppose it is just the HUD that's stretched.
-
I watched ten seconds. I heard the music.
No buy.
Fuck you Sega. Fuck you with a concrete fucking dildo, you useless cunts.
Just go out of business already before you ruin more games.
-
To be fair, at least it's fast-paced rock. *shot*
Could've been worse, right?

I... I... Don't know what to say.
A lot of people in SEGA seems to have poor tastes in music these days.
-
Oh fucking cuntabulous cruel moaning simpering fate! Sega can't precisely recreate the circumstances of my lost, blissful youth! THEY'RE INTENTIONALLY TRYING TO DRIVE ME INSANE!!! GODDAMMIT!!!!!! LET ME CRAWL BACK INTO THE WOMB, OR FACE MY INTERNET WRATH!!!!!!!!!!!! LET ME IN THERE YOU MALICIOUS COW!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
WTF!?
What the hell is that shit?
Why did they remove the old tracks? Is there any reason behind this?!
-
WTF!?
What the hell is that shit?
Why did they remove the old tracks? Is there any reason behind this?!
Can't be fucked to pay the royalties I guess, so they went with some horrible girly horse shit instead.
I mean, Sega has a back catalogue of songs from OutRun, Afterburner, Space Harrier, Daytona etc etc. I would have rather played Crazy Taxi with Splash Wave in the background that this shit.
In any event, i'll stick to Dreamcast, fuck this garbage.
-
More new music:

-
The music of Crazy Taxi isn't really a dealbreaker for me. I think I will plan on getting this.
-
WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS FUCKING SHIT IS THIS A JOKE ARE THEY FUCKING AROUND WITH US WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS FUCK SUCK SHIT WHAT THE FUCK I WANT SHITTY PUNK ROCK BACK I WILL MUTE THIS GAME BUT SEGA IS EARING ME BECAUSE MY CAPS LOCK IS TOO LOUD!!!!
the graphics look nice.
-
To everyone trying to insult me: I realise I'm being irrational. I just hated that music so damn much.
In any event the second video wasn't quite so bad. I might (MIGHT) pick it up if everything else is done well and Crazy Box is included. If not then, I'll stick to the Dreamcast game instead.
-

I was very angry at the music too.
-
YEAH! HANNA MONTANA FOR THE SOUNDS!!!
Cool SEGA! COOL!!
Fucku! -_-
-
If they had licensed music they'd probably give up all they money they would earn from releasing this. It's bad, I give you that but I wasn't planning on getting it anyway. Sup Sonic Adventure don't fail me!!!!!1112
-
And it kinda sucks removing all references to Pizza Hut, KFC, the GAP clothes store, the record store, but what are you gonna do.
Some of songs look really off...
Are there any good indie Punk Rock bands that could replace Crazy Taxi's soundtrack? I mean, there is Stroke 9 which are pretty cool.
For what it's worth, most DC games on Xbox Live Arcade/PSN won't suffer those many cuts.
I'm hoping for Skies of Arcadia, if it comes to XBLA/PSN to be the Gamecube build, I want all that new content.
-
Are these games going to have a Dreamcast start-up logo or any other kind of reference to Dreamcast in their intro identifying them as DC games?
I think there would be some brand value in doing that even if DC is dead it would help connect the new audiences with past Sega glory.
I would like to see the fans campaign for some kind of DC logo in these games.
They are using the DC logo in the "Look whose back" (or whatever) DC t-shirts at E3.

I don't think they would even need to do that. I'm sure that if they couldn't replicate it exactly, most Sega fans would have preferred them to actually use that back-catalogue of songs they have for once. Why not just replace it with renditions of Splash Wave, Final Take-off or anything from their old arcade games? Use the Climax remixes from Bayonetta even, they sounded great.
Hell, at least that would have some nostalgic value as well rather than just being some rock bands nobody has heard of who they could sign very cheap.
Oh well. I've mellowed out a bit since yesterday, still not sure if I'll buy or not though. I gotta say it's dissapointing to see Sega doesn't really give a shit about this stuff though.

The second video music blew hard, I much preferred the first video's music if I had to choose.

I don't get why this is so bad.
It's like the same sort of music, but with a much better vocalist. ^^;;;
-
It is slower and does not fit with the silly teenage edgy style the game is designed around. I would never listen to the original soundtrack outside of the game, but it just fits perfectly.
I mean, if we do not react poorly to this and make a big deal about it, what is stopping SEGA from changing the soundtrack of Jet Grind Radio without us knowing?
-
I disagree... I think it sounds like pretty much the same style of music. I think you might find just as many people not that into hearing the Offspring soundtrack again as you will find people who insist it should be brought back. Those songs were burned into my brain and, at the time, I thought it was weird that Sega went with all licensed songs for the soundtrack when they usually have their own musicians making the soundtrack.
As I recall there were a only a few licensed tracks in JGR, like a Rob Zombie song, which I remember feeling like did not fit with the rest of the soundtrack. Most of the soundtrack was done in-house or as work-for-hire so I expect the vast majority of it to be intact.
Realistically, every single one of these Dreamcast games is going to be altered in one way or another. Some ways will be good (HD), others a bit aggravating. The only way to play the originals is to play the originals. I can understand being put off by the changes... I was annoyed to see the Marilyn Monroe portraits missing from the second stage of Shinobi, but I figure it came down to legal issues with the Andy Warhol estate. At the end of the day it's not that big of a deal.
-
The music they replaced it with is just as bad as the one the original used. Fans should be happy.

It's okay, you can use PS3 custom soundtracks to put in My Chemical Romance and some hipster music instead! Everyone wins! :)
-
Centrale wins the argument. That's one very nice post, man. ^__^
So anyway, I'd really like it if these songs were included in the new Crazy Taxi:

Alright, I'm adding Fluffy to my ignored users list. His act is just getting old.
-
For you, MadeMan, that does not hurt my feelings even one slight little bit.
At least I won't have to see you moan every time I make posts that aren't meant to be taken seriously. =P
-

That's great news. Custom soundtracks will be a excellent feature to have. =)
-
We can ignore users!? :D Oh happy day!
As for the topic at hand, I've been thinking and I think I've figured out that SEGA probably had both CT and SA on tap for digital release, until somebody made note that they could release the two as the first of a Dreamcast rerelease series. Thus, SA was held off on releasing until CT was ready (which explains the long time in which SA was known of but not released). I'll bet the next batch of games will be true Dreamcast rereleases of non-PC/GC/PS2 ports. Space Channel 5 and JSR are my guesses.
-

I would love to have the Space Channel 5 games rereleased. I can't play my Special Edition of the game any more because there is a lag between video and audio on my HDTV, which for a rhythm game is a very bad thing.

I'd buy Space Channel 5 in a second. I've got Part one and two on Dreamcast and PS2. Love those games.
Especially the second one. Hands down, one of the best sequels ever.

Shenmue. I want the original Shenmue and Shenmue II with the Japanese audio track.
Mind you, I own both games, but they deserve a rerelease, and they deserve halfway decent voice acting (Shenmue II is truly awful in that regard).
Also, this may be old news, but that's bullshit about them taking out the original soundtrack for Crazy Taxi. I'm not a huge fan of punk, but those songs were an integral part of the experience. Ugh.
-
One question: For those who have tried the Sonic Adventure demos, I ask this: Can you change the japanese and english audio without having to change the dashboard?
Cause I hate doing that...
-
Sonic Adventure english voices are actually really good.
hmm.. in my opinion.
-
It had the kid from Phantom Menace as Tails too.

He's wrong, plain and simple.

I was sure it was the kid from phantom menace, I remember reading it Dreamcast Magazine ages ago. Guess I was wrong.

Some leaked footage:
[youtube:380xyfmr]PVnrCpNmMG4[/youtube:380xyfmr]
This is a pretty bad port. Move the video to 2:58. You can't even see the water when Sonic is up in the air.
-
I was sure it was the kid from phantom menace, I remember reading it Dreamcast Magazine ages ago. Guess I was wrong.
That would be a sweet myth, were not for the internets :)
as for the footage, is that final build? Some nasty draw distance issues there.. Very distracting, I sense a very mediocre reception.
-
I'm pretty sure Cory Bringas was the voice actor for Tails in SA1/2. He has nothing to do with Jake Lloyd.
-
Yeah, Jake Lloyd had nothing to do with the Sonic games. He was too busy with that OTHER pop culture phenomenon in 1999.
However, fun fact: The VA of Tails in AoStH, Christopher Evan Welch, narrated the 2008 Woody Allen film Vicky Cristina Barcelona. He sounds a lot like Dan Aykroyd, which is pretty funny.
-
This is a pretty bad port. Move the video to 2:58. You can't even see the water when Sonic is up in the air.
Yeah, that is bad...
But other than that, it doesn't seem like too bad of a port.
-
Yeah other than the draw distance thing I was expecting a lot worse.
Still cannot get over the DX models... What a horrible, horrible idea it was to use those...
-
Bleh....I'm dissapointed that this could've been THE BEST version of SA to play. They could've added widescreen, better lighting effects, bloom, motion blur, something, ANYTHING to make it look a little nicer. Same goes for Crazy Taxi.
I honestly can't believe that the same team that did the cool graphical update for NiGHTS wont even bother doing the same for SA and Crazy Taxi.
-

That draw distance is terrible, I noticed it right from the start. The trees would just pop up. I take it it wasn't this bad on the Gamecube.
-
What is up with the ring loading screen?
Does Sega have no respect for there number one IP, it is quite pathetic really you have small developers like 3D-Realms that destroy themselves over their perceived concerns over quality and then you have super dev houses like Sega who throw out there best game like I don't even have an analogy for.
The game isn't due till september but unfortunately they've already moved on to work on the next games, can't we recreate enough of rockus to force them to fix this stuff. If you guys really care about it start a petiton start mailing fake gold rings to Sega's office in an effort to fix the game and add the next gen features they deserve?
-
It's just a loading screen. The least of your worries, yet you ramble about it for two paragraphs. The lack of widescreen and the apparent graphical issues are a lot more worrying.
-
I could not care less for the widescreen.
The original didn't have it. This is a port not a remake, I want everything exactly the same. And that goes for draw distance. That did not happened before, wtf.
Though the reduced draw distance might be for testing purposes only. Still I don't have much faith it will be addressed. Maybe they were concerned about framerate? Still, I prefer occasional slowdown to not seeing everything I should be able to see.
-
I could not care less for the widescreen.
The original didn't have it. This is a port not a remake, I want everything exactly the same.
Then buy the original release. Some of us actually want them to improve on the game. A lot of the things that could use improvements would not be that hard to fix at all, especially if random fans can do this stuff themselves in weekends.
-
Why are you ignoring what other developers such as Capcom have done with there ports, Street Fighter 2, Bionic Commando, Mega Man X.
-

They could improve, yes. But I don't think that's mandatory.. Just DONT MAKE IT WORSE god...
-
Adding a widescreen option would hardly make the game a "remake". The PC version can have widescreen support with a relatively simple hack. I see no reason for them not to add it, especially when they did add it to Crazy Taxi.
-
I actually like having the game in a square. Go figures. I'd like to have the option at least.
But roll with me here.. They are already struggling with something as draw distance, with widescreen it would only get worse.
I'm not defending sloppy work. They should get it right! But as things are, maybe it's for the best. I certainly don't mind..
-
We're still months away from release and it's too much of a glitch to be overlooked by Microsoft's QA. It'll be fixed.
hopefully

If you guys really care about it start a petiton start mailing fake gold rings to Sega's office in an effort to fix the game and add the next gen features they deserve?
I'm going to protest with my wallet, and not buy either of these games, or any others until they get it right.
-
I don't get this.. Don't you guys already have these exact games for the Dreamcast?
-
Widescreen and a proper graphical facelift (among major camera work) would make me buy Sonic Adventure again, despite having 100% on the Dreamcast version.
It's too bad that Sega wants to go for the cheap dollar yet again, ruining their nearly non-existant reputation.
-
I'll be avoiding Crazy Taxi, due to the music being MIA, but will be getting SA1 despite owning the DC version. Mostly I want to play it out of curiosity to see what changed and to see if the promise of 60fps holds up. Also, achievements would give me a reason to play through the game again.
-

Yes, but I do re-buy games on XBLA if I like them for a few reasons.
- Convenience of having them on the HDD to play anytime
- Achievements/Leaderboards add new challenges to try out
- Enhanced Graphics are sometimes really nice
In this case though, the originals look far superior in just about every way, so I'll be skipping these.
-
You can also get widescreen for the Dreamcast version of SA using an emulator:

^^^More proof Sonic Team is the most incompetent big videogame developer in the world. :)
I think these Dreamcast releases on downloadable services might be a new low in SEGA screwing up basic shit that is hard to ruin. I am extremely scared to see what they might do to Shenmue and Chu Chu Rocket...

You can get the GameCube or PC versions for less than $5 now with all of the extra features that will be added in for more money, man. The latter has all kinds of mods for it now, too.
-
Is Sonic Team even handling the port though? I think it's pretty unfair to rag on them when it probably was SEGA proper that enlisted Yosuke Okunari.
Analogy: Ghostbusters, directed by Ivan Reitman, is owned and distrusted by Columbia Pictures. While Ivan Reitman created the film, Columbia Pictures can rerelease it whenever they want. Now lets say Columbia Pictures, with little to no input from Ivan Reitman, releases a shoddy full frame DVD of Ghostbusters. Do you blame Reitman or do you blame Columbia?
Blame SEGA and Okunari if you have to place blame.

So either a $10-$15 DL title for a console that I already own, or $30+ for a system plus game plus memory card to play a single title? I'd prefer a DL version, thanks. Also, who plays video games on their computer?

... oh right.

SEGA Hong Kong are behind the port, but Sonic Team is overlooking it and probably forced them to use the DX models as well.

The GameCube and PC versions actually play alright though, everything we have seen of the Xbox Live Arcade release are extremely mixed, or just play the good release of the game you own on the Dreamcast.
I do not think this is that big of a deal, but there are almost no additions to the DX release outside of Mission Mode, the Game Gear titles (which will not be in the downloadable versions, I am certain), some extremely minor texture changes (mostly for the characters) and Metal Sonic for the Sonic stages which literally changes nothing with the game anyways, outside of looking kind of neat. You should save that money for something important like Orbitz, a softdrink from 1997 that was only released in Canada that tasted alright but looked so cool.
-
Also, who plays video games on their computer?
REAL gamers do. :P
Although seriously, if you don't play PC games at all, you're missing out on some of the greatest games ever made in the history of the world.

Sega should just fuck this shit.
They are releasing these games one by one as if they were new games. That's bullshit. Just have something like "DREAMCOLLECTION" and a DC emulator running the games AS IS.
No bullshit. I'd rather have a glitch or two here and there than hear everyone complain about this not being better than the originals. Just put them as is without any modifications whatsoever. Like what Sony does with PSX games.

Sonic Team will have little to do with the porting, other than approving the use of their IP . The 4.3 is one of those issues that happens , like with Duke Nukem, Soul Calibur, Doom, REZ (in standard mode) and lots of other Live Arcade , where we can all say ,Ohh it should be so easy to add Widescreen mode. I think at some points Sonic Adv doubles the vertical Res too, which may also cause some issues. Some games would need to be remade to enable Widescreen support like with REZ
Issues over CT are completely out of SEGA control, and no SEGA is not going to pay lots of money, re-licensing Music tracks or bloody Pizza Hunt, for a cheap Live Arcade game. Yes we can all save money , and still play the DC version, though I wouldn't say the Cube version will be cheaper than the LIVE, as GameCube is becoming very collectable.
That's missing the point of all this . This is for people that long since sold their classic consoles or games, or simply don't want the hassle or mess of still having all their classic consoles set up

That's what SEGA is doing for the most part. But Microsoft do have lots of rules for X-Box Live Arcade games. All must support gamer points, 720p modes ECT . They also rule on when games can go up on LIVE Arcade, what Emu can be used Sony are very picky too, on matters like that .
And how many PS2 games have SONY put up on PSN?. Lets not compare what SONY is doing with 32 bit games to that of Dreamcast games.
Don't like it, don't buy the games. Me I think its great, and can't play to play the like of Sonic Adv and hope the likes of JSR follow suite
-
The PSP port of Crazy Taxi didn't have Offspring music either. They cannot afford to pay out more cash for music royalties on a $10-$15 downloadable title so deal with it.
-
I have a feeling that SEGA wasn't planning for a Dreamcast collection at first. I think they had SA1 planned for last year, then when Crazy Taxi was decided upon they probably chose to delay SA1 until CT was ready. At that point they probably thought: "Hey, let's just release these around the same date (9-9-10, my guess) and say they're the first of a Dreamcast rerelease collection."
I'll bet that at this point they're picking more Dreamcast games, hopefully ones that aren't PC or Gamecube ports, and we can probably expect better emulated games in future releases. Or at the very least, games that are direct versions of their Dreamcast release and not some PC/GC/PS2 hybrid.
-
It doesn't really seem like there'll be any direct versions.
It looks like they're doing them all in HD and attempting to add widescreen, so wouldn't they all be changed a bit?
-
One could say that this Sonic Adventure is improved. If they fix the draw distance and are able to make it 60fps it will be better than any other one (out of the box).
I wasn't thinking about what TA said about the requirements XBLA and PSN have.. That makes things a little less simple for Sega. Still, I'm hoping that they make a good job.
I understand that they won't pay royalties for Offspring, but they might allow custom soundtracks so it's no big deal.
I'm quite excited with this. I would buy these games if I didn't have them already.. I think it's a waste of money to rebuy games since I can plug in all my consoles easily.
Here's hoping for some more exciting games.
-
Just pointing this out....
Some guy (using an emulator) got Crazy Taxi in widescreen WITHOUT stretching the HUD:
[youtube:1uz10ax4]FHyuwqwxAiQ[/youtube:1uz10ax4]
Again, why can't SEGA do the same.
-
Again, why can't SEGA do the same.
Cause it looks godawful? I much rather have it stretched than awkwardly there at the center.
-

Word... it looks fucking stupid.
And I hope we arn't arguing that the video shown there is actually a good thing... I saw multiple graphical bugs, voice stuttering, slow down and music... getting distorted.
-
Who said the HUD has to be in the center? SEGA could easily move the un-stretched HUD to the edges of the screen considering they have the code for the game.
And the video was stuttering because the game was being played on an emulator.
-
Both Sharky and Crackdude missed the point, the issues are coming from the unfinished fan emulator and the free recording software.
The game renders all of that you see normally but the player is only supposed to see a fraction of it. SEGA could easily edit this all fine without much work at all.
My big issue with SEGA making these releases is because they obviously are just rushing them out without much work put into them. 20+ releases in under a year? Come on...
Watch someone like Ubisoft port Rayman 2 and do it right and totally crush all of these releases.
-
Watch someone like Ubisoft port Rayman 2 and do it right and totally crush all of these releases.
I still get 20 releases, stretched out HUD or not.
Everything in Outrun Arcade is stretched out and it's no big deal. When I used to play it on my Xbox in a 34" screen it looked worse.
As I stated before, in my opinion I wouldn't even care if they were all in nice sharp 4:3 in 480p like they were designed to be. But as someone pointed out, there are restrictions against that in the HD consoles. Sega is just making what it needs to do with little effort. Personally if I were Sega I wouldn't give a shit, my original idea was to launch them in an otherwise lower resolution so people are still getting more than it originally was.
People seem to forget that these are 12 year old games. What looked amazing back then looks just ok now (still the Dreamcast has some amazing textures).
-
What are you talking about? Nothing in OutRun Online Arcade was stretched at all.
Infact, SUMO should have handled the port of Crazy Taxi.

You cannot just effortlessly move one game from a console to another, it takes work, and while you are at it you might as well make it better, this is what everyone else does, at least.
Making constant low budget releases with little effort of games people love is a good way to make money in short amount of time, but in the long run it only upsets/loses fans and respect.
-

What? Yes it is.. The HUD is a bit blurry too..
Am I the only one experiencing this?

I don't get what's so upsetting. No game is worse than it was originally (except for CT losing the branding and music, but there's nothing to be done about that). If people love the games they'll love them anyway if they are at least as good as they were no?
I seriously don't get everyone's problem. Unless they don't work out the draw distance issues on SA, these are releases just as solid as they were 12 years ago.
-
I gave them my money 12 years ago too. I would be willing to give them money again if they added those little things I've been mentioning on this thread. If they can't be bothered to improve these little things I can't be bothered to give them my money. It doesn't help that I still have my 100% Sonic Adventure save file. I've seen everything the game has to offer yet I would buy it again for widescreen. It's a lost sale, I suppose. Not that Sega care, that Sonic fanbase will make the poor port worth it.

Poor port? If it is equal to the original how is it poor?
-

Completely different ,for one major reason . OutRun II was already running in what was in effect Wide-screen for the X-Box/Chinhiro . Lots of Dreamcast/NA@MI games didn't support Widescreen
Its not just a SEGA thing, Play Soul Calibur and Ikaruga on X-Box LIVE Arcade, or for that Matter DC REZ on Live Arcade and look for Widescreen modes . Don't think there is any myself.
-
What? First of all, Rez HD is in widescreen.
Second, making Soul Calibur (or ANY 4:3 fighting game) widescreen will change the gameplay too much. Think about how the characters in different fighting games interact with the edge of the screen and how the camera behaves when characters touch those boundaries.
For Soul Calibur, making it widescreen would mean the characters would have to start out farther away from each other. This may not seem like a big deal, but for enthusiasts of the game, it could change their whole strategy. Imagine Marvel vs. Capcom having a widescreen port. (A game where you can't even "stretch" the distance between fighters.) It'll change the whole game.
Same with Ikaruga. Making it widescreen would give you a bigger range of motion. It would change the game too much and would probably wreck it.
Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi don't rely on screen boundaries for gameplay. So there's no excuse for not including widescreen.
-
You don't have to make fighting games 'widescreen' by moving the characters further apart. You can just make the screen show more 'scenery' .
-
Soul Calibur on the XBLA is such a poor example, they literally removed dozens of features and extras from that game, it did not even have online play. It was just a rushed port to milk extra sales in time for Soul Calibur IV's release.
Dr SEGA Monkey brings up a great point, but George does as well. That is what Capcom did for Super Street Fighter II HD, they actually cared about what people thought of that product and put a lot of really impressive work into it, even getting the fans to support many changes.
But we are not asking huge redesigns like that, we just want widescreen and some positive improvements to the game. It should not be a hassle at all.
-
The best news I have heard is that they are both running at 60fps. But, if they do this, can't they just add widescreen to Sonic?
-
That is what Capcom did for Super Street Fighter II HD, they actually cared about what people thought of that product and put a lot of really impressive work into it, even getting the fans to support many changes.
You're comparing a remake to a port? That's not nice.
[EDIT: the rest of this post is not directed at Sanus. It's a personal rant]
If Sega fans took the heads out of the asses for a bit it would be clear that Sega has recently been the company with maybe the most connection with fans with Sonic 4. They are making a perfectly fine 2D HD game like everyone asked and taking fans' opinions seriously.
Still, said fans kept on complaining about every single intricate aspect of the game. So they went their way to delay the game to fix things that fans weren't liking.
If that's not effort and thought and consideration, then I don't know..
Also:
Porting is the term used when a computer game designed to run on one platform (...) is converted to run on a different platform. is different from:
A remake is an updated re-released version of a previous video game. Typically, a remake shares essentially the same title, gameplay, and story elements of the original game, but also improves on technical aspects such as graphics, sound, and the user interface.
If you want a remake, ask for one. Sega is porting games. They are supposed to come as they were. Sonic Adventure was 4:3, boo-oo
-
What? First of all, Rez HD is in widescreen.
Nope , I said play the DC (standard) version of REZ found in the XBox Live version, and its then displayed in standard 4.3 ratio and doesn't fill out the screen . I'm sure the ex capcom staff that made the Rez LIVE port, said it had to be remade to enable Wide-screen support
For Soul Calibur, making it widescreen would mean the characters would have to start out farther away from each other. This may not seem like a big deal, but for enthusiasts of the game, it could change their whole strategy.
So what about Doom II ,Duke Nukem 3D and many other games that don't support widescreen on X-Box Live .
Soul Calibur on the XBLA is such a poor example, they literally removed dozens of features and extras from that game, it did not even have online play. It was just a rushed port to milk extra sales in time for Soul Calibur IV's release
Not a poor example at all. Most of the stuff you said about the mission mode was taken out , due to download limits , like OutRun Online had a ton of stuff missing due to Download limits . Widscreen support I'm sure wouldn't add many Meg's, if it was so simple
Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi don't rely on screen boundaries for gameplay. So there's no excuse for not including widescreen
One could say the same for games like Duke or Doom . I will also say that the way Power VR handled and drew polygons on screen, may complicate matters . Also in Sonic Adv, at certain times , when there's both polygon characters and FMV backgrounds, the game double the vertical res.
Not all DC games are so simple to port
The best news I have heard is that they are both running at 60fps
Crazy Taxi was running at 60 fps on the DC. Its hardly an improvement.
At the end of the day , these are just basic Dreamcast Ports , and if you don't like it, Stick with the DC versions or play them on Enu . For others I'm sure they'll be more than happy ( I know I will be) .
That is what Capcom did for Super Street Fighter II HD, they actually cared about what people thought of that product and put a lot of really impressive work into it, even getting the fans to support many changes.
Like Sega did with Virtual On II port ?. Lets at least give SEGA credit for some stuff please
-

I don't think anyone said Sega ruined EVERYTHING on XBLA, just these two games seem like garbage.
Also crackdude: To me Sonic 4 seems like Sega trying to create the illusion of giving a fuck about the fans, rather than actually trying to make a genuinely good game.
"Damn, reviewers keep asking for 2D games. Okay, just slap together a few levels, call it Sonic 4 to get the headlines and then charge like a wounded bull for 12 stages. Suckers like Twisted Pixel will be charging the same for 100 levels, but fuck that. Also homing attacks and speed boosters everywhere."
-
I don't think anyone said Sega ruined EVERYTHING on XBLA, just these two games seem like garbage
Why because they don't offer wide-screen support ?. If these were remakes I might be pissed, To me they're simply ports, and allow people to play DC games with out the hassle of setting up the DC, or having various systems and games ready to hand .
I seriously don't get the outcry , More so over issues like music and font rights, that SEGA have no control over , or are not about to spend money of getting new Rights. I just want near perfect Dreamcast ports, for a cheap price
To me Sonic 4 seems like Sega trying to create the illusion of giving a fuck about the fans, rather than actually trying to make a genuinely good game
I think we all need to play the game 1st . Also to me its does seem that at last SEGA is noting what fans what . Only Sonic, Fast pure gameplay and no pointless gimmicks (like werewolf and extra characters) that seems to be the case in the new 2 Sonic games . That to me is a huge start on getting Sonic back on form , and what fans want
-

Download limits my ass, Soul Calibur IV is a largely similar product, so it makes sense to not have basic features like online play. It was just a way to milk the name for the time, come on, it is obvious.

No they are not, Sonic Adventure is clearly based off of the DX builds that everyone hates to begin with, so if anything, a basic Dreamcast port would have been an improvement.
Not to mention, the 'DX' features of the title are removed to make the player pay for Mission Mode and maybe Metal Sonic. These kind of features take time and money to do, but instead of improving the product they are half-assing it on purpose just to make as much money as possible with as little effort as can be.
Like Sega did with Virtual On II port ?. Lets at least give SEGA credit for some stuff please
Uhh what? I was talking about Sonic Adventure, Crazy Taxi and the upcoming set of games. Virtual-On Oratorio Tangram was arranged by AM2, obviously it was an outstanding product.
If Sega fans took the heads out of the asses for a bit it would be clear that Sega has recently been the company with maybe the most connection with fans with Sonic 4. They are making a perfectly fine 2D HD game like everyone asked and taking fans' opinions seriously.

Holy shit, you are so wrong in so many ways. Of course SEGA cares about Sonic the Hedgehog 4, but you are giving the game faaaaaaar too much credit if you think this is what the fans have wanted for years and years.
If you want a remake, ask for one. Sega is porting games. They are supposed to come as they were. Sonic Adventure was 4:3, boo-oo
I will not because I feel most of the good Sonic games are good enough that they do not need redesigns. I only want a game that has obviously aged like Sonic Adventure to be improved a little bit, even little effort like just updating the sound quality of the voices or something would be alright, but they are not doing that.
And I hope you realize that there is a huge spectrum between port and remake. Editing simple features like texture quality and screen display in 3D games are not hard to do.
-

Fans have been asking for a modern 2D Sonic game. Sega is giving them that..
And you know sound and such are improved cause you've already played the final version of the port?
As for improvements, they are making it 60fps which is more than I would ask for.. I guess you just have higher standards..

I wouldn't mind paying for a Dreamcast-Perfect port of the game, but so far I'm not even sure if Crazy Taxi has Crazy Box mode, which is like, over half the game. Apart from that they butchered the music, if they couldn't use Offspring and Bad Religion, why not use some classic Sega tunes or something instead of cheap licensed music?
As for Sonic Adventure, it's apparantly based on some GameCube or PC versions, which I hear are inferior. If it were just the Dreamcast game perfectly ported, I would be happy.
Download limits my ass, Soul Calibur IV is a largely similar product, so it makes sense to not have basic features like online play. It was just a way to milk the name for the time, come on, it is obvious.
Don't be so hasty, don't forget Soul Caliber on XBLA was one of the very last games that was forced to fit into a size limit. I think it was shortly after that they removed size constrictions and started introducing stuff like Shadow Complex, CoD Classic and other games that were over 1GB etc.
-
Apart from that they butchered the music, if they couldn't use Offspring and Bad Religion, why not use some classic Sega tunes or something instead of cheap licensed music?
Sorry, but I think hearing "Splash Wave" or something like it in Crazy Taxi would have seemed far cheaper and more out of place.
-
SEGA has years and years of potentially billions of songs. I am sure they can find something!
-
I know I'm going to get murdered for suggesting these, but....
[youtube:10jwmfsg]Hy9KZ3BSlFk[/youtube:10jwmfsg]
[youtube:10jwmfsg]OX02dD7mlG0[/youtube:10jwmfsg]
Well I like them....
Another big problem with these ports is that there's nothing drawing in the younger generation of gamers. At the moment, these Dreamcast re-releases are only appealing to people who have already played them, or have heard of them. Kids don't want to play games with blocky models, they like pretty graphics. Also, adults may be turned off by the dated graphics if they aren't familiar with the games.
SEGA should be improving the graphics to make the games comparable to original 3D games you can download on Xbox Live and PSN. That way, they'll be seen less as "wonky, old, dated Dreamcast re-releases" and more like fresh, unique, top-quality games from SEGA.
-
To everyone mentioning Soul Calibur's mission mode. That mode was more about programming rather than assets (models, textures...), which were already there for the main modes. Code takes a tiny fraction of the space, it wouldn't blow the size limits. So, yeah, Soul Calibur XBLA sucks too. All of those Dreamcast games are bound to suck on XBLA. Except for Rez and that's because Mizuguchi took care of it.

Yes those silly X-Box Live download limits . That made sure lot of content was cut out of various ports . 1st it was 60 meg, then 120 meg , then over 300 Meg , Now its 2 Gig.
That's why the Mission mode in SC was taken out .
And as for comparing a full retail price game, to a simple X-Box Live port , That's just being silly imo.
Sonic Adventure is clearly based off of the DX builds that everyone hates to begin with, so if anything, a basic Dreamcast port would have been an improvement
The Cube port which is based on the DC game ? If its running at 60 fps , that would mean it based on PC version of Sonic Adv, which wasn't too bad at all .
I was talking about Sonic Adventure, Crazy Taxi and the upcoming set of games. Virtual-On Oratorio Tangram was arranged by AM2, obviously it was an outstanding product
Oh we forget about some other SEGA LIVE Arcade games, lets go on about Capcom ?.
I think SEGA done very good on X-Box Live Arcade with excellent ports . And I'm sure if there more DC ports coming, they'll be running on AM#2 DC emu . But no noubt you'll knock the shit out of them, over pointless stuff like in not running in Widescreen.
but so far I'm not even sure if Crazy Taxi has Crazy Box mode, which is like, over half the game. Apart from that they butchered the music, if they couldn't use Offspring and Bad Religion, why not use some classic Sega tunes or something instead of cheap licensed music?
The Box mode or lack off. I'll not try and defend . Music wise , for one thing we haven't see the final Track listing , maybe we'll see SEGA classic rock music put in . Also you can play a Custom Track on a 360 even if its not supported In-Game , Just buy using the Dash and selecting Music Sources .
it's apparantly based on some GameCube or PC versions, which I hear are inferior. If it were just the Dreamcast game perfectly ported, I would be happy.
PC version is very good imo. No major Frame rates problems at all
-
As for Sonic Adventure, it's apparantly based on some GameCube or PC versions, which I hear are inferior. If it were just the Dreamcast game perfectly ported, I would be happy.
Those versions were "bad" because of framerate issues. The Gamecube version in particular had weird fps cuts. The PC version played in a powerful PC runs fine.
If they make it 60fps at all times like they say it'll be as good or better than the DC version.
SEGA should be improving the graphics to make the games comparable to original 3D games you can download on Xbox Live and PSN. That way, they'll be seen less as "wonky, old, dated Dreamcast re-releases" and more like fresh, unique, top-quality games from SEGA.
I would rage so hard at this. Just changing the visuals could potentially piss off old fans. These releases are directed at them.
Unless they were like super remakes full of new stuff. That would be cool too!

Orta explained why your point is incorrect. At the time the limit was 1G, Soul Calibur on the Dreamcast is not even 700MB.
Again, they just did it because Soul Calibur IV was coming out at the same time. It plays largely the same and the original is loved much much more, what seems like a better deal in this case, $60 for the new broken release or $10 for one of the most treasured games of all time with largely the same gameplay and features? They cut it on purpose.

Not to come off like an elitist prick, but have you literally played any of these? The Backbone releases especially are literally the worst ports on the whole platform with such obvious issues as basic sounds like punching or collecting three rings in a row being glitched to the point they sometimes do not play or make a loud shrilling noise in place? They are also literally the only ports on the platform that do not use custom soundtracks properly, but instead just playing over all of the music and sound completely.
I am not sure how you can praise work like this, but complain that the next Yakuza game we know nothing about is part of the same series as always.

Framerate issues? What about how they changed the models of some of the characters to the point they completely clash with the rest of the world? Or how they changed some of the art to make the characters look like plastic instead? Or how they took out minigames and a large section of the voices?
Obviously they added some nice stuff, but it was mostly related to the Chao garden, and even then it was not so special. The DX release is worse.

The models were great and did not look like plastic (nothing like Sonic Heroes). Many polygons and moved smoothly. I played the PC version with high specs if that changes anything. I also have the DC version, and graphically the PC blows it away. DC models move great, but have very bland colors.
Again I think this is more of self opinion than anything..
I had forgotten about the Chao Garden!! If they add some stuff to it or some online functions or something I'll buy it day one. Otherwise..we'll see.
The DX version is worse on the GC. On the PC it was just as good, but I hate action PC gaming so I prefer the DC.
-
I think I'll have to try the demo for Sonic Adventure at least then.
As for SC on XBLA, I think at the time the limit was still 250 MB, not 1GB. Looking into old articles, apparantly the limit during develoment time was still 150 MB, so they had to cut heaps of stuff to fit it, then it was lifted to 250 MB or something JUST before it released, so they threw in as much content as they could, but couldn't get Quest Mode in a reasonable time.

Sonic's model is bumped up a lot, but some like Gamma was not even touched, it all completely clashes and makes everything else look worse considering they built everything over existing models with the animation just as awkward as ever and the background characters being around 200 polygons each. If you break it down you will see Big has much more detail and polygons in his hands in the DX releases as he does for the rest of his body. I do not understand how this kind of stuff is acceptable to anyone.

I checked the dates, the change to 350MB was three months before the release of the game. I also checked the Dreamcast game's size and it is just over 400MB.
I do not really know where to go with that, but I cannot see them being too motivated to improve the quality of the cheap game when they can get people to buy the more expensive product just as easily.

Orta explained why your point is incorrect. At the time the limit was 1G, Soul Calibur on the Dreamcast is not even 700MB
No, You had to ask MS for special permission to break the limit which was far lower than a Gig, at the time .
Coming from the one that said they wasn't such limits in the 1st place, its also a little rich . Maybe it also explain why Sumo couldn't put all the OutRun 2006 content into OutRun LIVE, even though again the X-Box version was lower than a Gig . So you are very wrong on that front
Again, they just did it because Soul Calibur IV was coming out at the same time. It plays largely the same and the original is loved much much more,
Comparing a port , which more often than not is not handled by the same team and with have limited resources , compared to the full price Retail sequel, that is also in the works, is simply not fair and rather silly imo.

That's the trouble with Emu, some games work perfectly some don't (even with PC emu's) . And as for what SEGA related LIVE Arcade I've purchased, well that would be Sonic, Golden Axe, SOR II, REZ, VO II, OutRun Online, After Burner Climax (by all means check my gamertag) .
I've been quite happy with all of them , and I say again (not that I would want to as all SEGA games have immense music) Press the guide button and select music sources and play any music you like to . Its all rather simple for 360 fans.
Now have you played the new Sonic IV?
I am not sure how you can praise work like this, but complain that the next Yakuza game we know nothing about is part of the same series as always.
Nice try . But you can be sure if SEGA announced it was brining Yakuza 1 and II to the PSN and X-Box LIVE in near perfect original state, I wouldn't be complaining, You see I'm all for SEGA porting is back catalogue of Arcade and Console classics .
Its not a dream on SEGA manpower or Budgets ( its relatively cheap and easy , and often done out of House) and a great one for people to play the games, who haven't before, or don't want the hasstle of having loads of games and every system under the sun, still set up to their TV
Do I have to prove that I own the copies of the games again as well ?
-

It is just basic code. They could have added this all as an extra for free or for extra money, they chose not to and purposely kept it gimped.
With OutRun2 - I have a feeling SEGA wants to release the other courses as another stand alone game for 800 points as OutRun Online Arcade 2. It would all work out best this way I think.
Comparing a port , which more often than not is not handled by the same team and with have limited resources , compared to the full price Retail sequel, that is also in the works, is simply not fair and rather silly imo.
I do not know what you are talking about. It takes more resources to take out material than it is to just leave it all alone.
That's the trouble with Emu, some games work perfectly some don't (even with PC emu's) .
I never had any of these problems, or at least never to the extent with PC emulators by fans from the late 90s and certainly not any lately. Those are all done for free by people who do it as a hobby, the complete opposite of what Backbone has done. At the very least I expect basic sounds like punches and collecting rings to work right, they do not.
Listen to Sonic Spinball's menu theme on the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 collection and tell me how that is any form of acceptable.
And as for what SEGA related LIVE Arcade I've purchased, well that would be Sonic, Golden Axe, SOR II, REZ, VO II, OutRun Online, After Burner Climax (by all means check my gamertag) .

I have almost all of those myself, we should play some of them sometime. Add me to your friends list if you can!
And yeah, I enjoyed all of them too. The Backbone releases pissed me off, but if you check my gamertag you will see I got a lot of play out of all of them.
But Backbone's releases do not work properly with the custom soundtracks. It just replaces all of the sound completely. Before I assumed this would be hard to do, but both Banjo-Kazooie games on there offer this so it is just Backbone sucking.
Now have you played the new Sonic IV?
Completely unrelated. Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is developed by people who have never worked on the Xbox Live Arcade platform ever, I was talking about the bulk of titles already released.
Nice try . But you can be sure if SEGA announced it was brining Yakuza 1 and II to the PSN and X-Box LIVE in near perfect original state, I wouldn't be complaining, You see I'm all for SEGA porting is back catalogue of Arcade and Console classics .

I do not know where you are trying to go with this.
My complaints arise from the people porting the bulk of these being retards. For instance, Ecco the Dolphin is on basically every platform available now, but all are the Genesis release. None are the SEGA CD or PC releases, even the recent PC release on Steam is the Genesis version! This is just stupid and makes no sense. They even charge more for Sonic 3D Blast on Steam than all of the other Genesis releases but meanwhile the PC release of that sits abandoned forever.
If a competent developer - Like AM2 - Were to handle these they would most likely put the CD soundtracks in there, maybe make the cart songs optional, possibly remix those songs too and bring in features from both releases while probably making either optional. Also they would probably not even bother porting a shitty game like Sonic 3D Blast.
-

Sumo digital already confirmed in an interview it was Cut , due to MS Live limits . As did sol , on boards like NTSC.
It takes more resources to take out material than it is to just leave it all alone.
There was never any Internet Vs Play in Dreamcast SC. So I don't really know, what you're talking about
Mission mode was taken out due to size limits . Compressing a game is more hardwork , that taking the mode out altogether

Done

The Mega CD version is quite big due to the Sountrack. Also i'm not sure if SEGA still has the rights to the bonus FMV used inthe game . Simple stuff like that, can just make it easier to look elsewhere.
If a competent developer - Like AM2
I'm sure some of the AM#2 staff are also helping on the DC ports .

Yeah I knew of it too, but I am saying that they can now easily make a new release for the same price with all of the other content.

I was mostly talking about other features, like well, unlockables. Namco even said at one point they would not remove anything from the XBLA release, and like I said they even could have added stuff like Mission Mode as DLC fine enough, but they just did not even bother.

I can maybe understand the FMVs, but those were not in the original Ecco. Even though they are about the story of the first game they were originally in the sequel as an extra. They were in the PC release, but to me it would be just great if they at least acknowledged the existence of these releases.
I'm sure some of the AM#2 staff are also helping on the DC ports .
Here's hoping.
-
Yeah I knew of it too, but I am saying that they can now easily make a new release for the same price with all of the other conten
Now they could (that wasn't the point). But at the time there were daft X-Box Live limits . There is still a limit of 2 gig for a X-Box Live download , but for most DC games that isn't an issue
I was mostly talking about other features, like well, unlockables. Namco even said at one point they would not remove anything from the XBLA release
They did put in all the unlockable stages, characters, and theatre modes one would unlock in Mission mode . In many ways there were true to their word.
I can maybe understand the FMVs, but those were not in the original Ecco
No they were in the Mega Cd version though , like the extra music .
Here's hoping
I think some of the AM#2 staff are producing some of the DC ports

I have owned the game my entire life, the PC release of the first game is the only release of Ecco I that has the FMVs. Ecco II was the first release ever to have these FMVs at all, they were even marketed on the back of the box.
The bottom two screens are from the FMVs themselves even.
-

Well I suggest you play the Mega CD game then . Yes there's FMV in the 1st Ecco game onthe Mega CD . You talk to the Library stage Glyphs and you get a nice lovely FMV clip on the History of the Dolphin
-

That is different and not related to the actual game. No one gives a fucking shit about those and they never did. They would not be missed at all.
I was talking about the FMVs that play about the story of the games, kind of like the animated intro in the first game.
-
Just admit you we wrong about that game you owned all your life , not having FMV . Nothing worse that when some just can't admit they were wrong. Like you were over X-Box Live Arcade limits, and Ecco on the Mega CD not having a FMV.
Now lets leave it at that and for when Sonic Adv and Crazy Taxi do come to the XBLA or PSN
-
No, I explained that I was talking about the story related ones and you never pointed out we were arguing about a different thing, confusing both of us. There is also an intro video only in the MEGA CD release that is obvious to anyone who either looks on the back of the box or has the game on for 20 seconds would be able to see. I always assumed we were talking about the story ones, and you kept going on like we were, so why did you not bring that up? I even constantly mentioned Ecco II having these videos, and none of the releases of that have the 'History of Dolphins' videos, so again, why did you not stop me there either?
I am not sure why you snapped about the Soul Calibur XBLA limits, I was just stating why I felt they removed the content and kept it condensed on purpose and you just kept saying I was wrong without even acknowledging my points.
-

I so much rather play the actual game. No there isn't a FMV intro to ECCO, the extra bonus Mega CD intro , is all done in real time.
There is no FMV intro to Ecco II either on the Mega CD (yes I have the game). You need to stop going by what Google tells you, and play the actual game :p
I am not sure why you snapped about the Soul Calibur XBLA limits, I was just stating why I felt they removed the content and kept it condensed on purpose and you just kept saying I was wrong without even acknowledging my points.
Didn't snap. Just pointing out there was never ever any VS online modes for SC on the DC, And all the extra's and unlockables were in the XBox Live game . Just the mission mode was taken out , but everything you unlocked when in Mission mode was included.
Now lets wait until Sonic and Crazy Taxi ship to see what's in , or taken out .

I have the games on SEGA CD, I even have the foam for both! THE FOAM!

I never really meant the online play - I mean they should have tried, but my point was aimed at Namco's comments about keeping everything in tact and then removing everyone's favorite feature and never trying to go back and add it in if space was really an issue it could have always been with DLC. We will just agree to disagree on this. I am completely certain it was gimped on purpose because of the release of Soul Calibur IV and it being largely a very similar game and liked a lot more.
As for Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi on the platforms. I have said what needs to be said really. They are less than two months away now, so not like SEGA will change anything major with our complaints.
-
No intro? What is this then?
The real Time intro Which I already talked about
I so much rather play the actual game. No there isn't a FMV intro to ECCO, the extra bonus Mega CD intro , is all done in real time.
So Please don't come it .
I mean they should have tried,
Maybe , Though with SC IV coming I guess they were more focused on that , and maybe didn't want to hurt any sales by making Dreamcast SC VS online.
Namco's comments about keeping everything in tact and then removing everyone's favorite feature and never trying to go back and add it in if space was really an issue it could have always been with DLC
They put everything one could unlocked in mission mode in . I guess if space wasn't an issue , they just would have ported the whole game over, lock stock and barrel
As for Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi on the platforms. I have said what needs to be said really. They are less than two months away now, so not like SEGA will change anything major with our complaints.
We have to see , I not be happy if the water disappearing clitch is still there

Man you guys argue a lot. I haven't posted in a while, but does anyone recall loving to fight with me? Am I anyone's enemy? I swear there's someone that hates me.
-
I'll hate you, but I'll need something to hate you for. ;)

Man you guys argue a lot.
They argue over some extremely old games that most of us already own, no less. =P

I recall a certain fluffymoochicken contributing to a quite lengthy argument involving a certain Crazy game that is old and is owned by most of us.
No less.

The last time I mentioned Crazy Taxi in this thread was on June 22, 2010. My interest in the subject died a long time ago. I'm not one of the people who's needlessly debating for over a month about some ancient games that essentially nobody cares about anyway. =P
It was merely an observation, you know? I'm gone for nearly two weeks, and when I come back, I find that they're still at it. I consider that to be pretty extreme, and for no good reason. Are we actually wanting these ports that much?
-
ITT: SEGA fans.

Aw, I love these guys arguments! I wouldn't have it any other way. Keep at it! (but keep things civil, points to MOD title)

I haven't read anything on this page, but that Bayonetta picture made my day.
-
That's basically how Bayonetta looked during the final boss when I played. I crammed her with so many suckers...
-
Well, I was browsing through a lengthy TSSZnews article and I stumbled upon this video from the french website Eversonic.
[youtube:28d688kw]YqwZcIC3K6Y[/youtube:28d688kw]
This build looks very buggy, moreso than the original, which is pretty weird.
Either the emulation isn't working properly (don't know if this is the PC build or the Gamecube build). Here's hoping they fix all the bugs till Fall hits.
-
It's worse than I expected. The draw distance issues are nothing compared to that.
-
Wasn't this game supossed to come out in September? If so, I sure hope they do iron out most of the bugs. If not better delay them for a couple of months.
Sega has kept both these titles(Crazy Taxi and SA) very below the radar.
-
2 months old video.
Time enough for them to fix that crap.
-
Now that I can agree looks like shit.
-
Do not think they will be able to fix a lot of this because these are general problems the game has always had. People who missed out on this now are going to play that and think Sonic has always been shitty. They also said they planned to release one Dreamcast game a month too, I believe... I cannot see them being much better than what we just saw.
Wonderful.
-
As long as Skies of Arcadia gets included in this, I don't care about the rest.
-
If Sega wants to fuck their IPs, we can't stop them.
-
This is going to be so f*cked up..
-
Oh Sega... why do you do these things?
-
I'm guessing people at Sega of America or Europe are doing these ports. Nothing good comes out of them. All the botched iPhone ports, Golden Axe and other shitty outsourced games, these Dreamcast ports, all rubbish. Just move everything to Japan and reduce the western stuff to a translation team or something. I don't know. Seriously if I could just get Shenmue 3 I'd be completely okay with Sega falling apart and disappearing. The heartaches aren't worth the rare Valkyrian ray of light we get once in a while.
PS: Sorry if that makes no sense. I'm so damn bored at work. I have nothing better to do than mindlessly ramble on Sega forums.
-
Actually Yosuke Okunari is heading up the DC ports. He's a Japanese man don'tcha know!
-
Miss Backbone yet?
Well, we'll have to wait and see how this plays out.
The original Sonic Adventure is quite buggy, there's one particular segment in the stage that you just have to press foward even if you're going sideways, if you try to jerk the D-pad to any other direction you will fall off and lose a life.
And since we're on the subject of SA glitches:
[youtube:s088f8j3]5RUu3NekFbQ[/youtube:s088f8j3]
-
3D Sonic games have always been buggy, yes. These days the players are more demanding of "perfection" then they used to be.
But still there's no reason for a re-release of a 12 year old game to be inferior.

You do realise this video is from the inferior DX version. The initial Japanese release of Sonic Adventure was quite glitchy, yes, but the one we got one year later not so much. At least it's what I felt, I didn't exactly ran into game breaking issues like I did in Heroes or Unleashed. I think most of the problems with Adventure 1 come from the internet overreacting bullshit only playing the DX version.

LOL@DX being inferior.
It had updates graphics, models, textures, fixed a couple issues in levels, and made a whole bunch of fun glitches.

It also was less smooth, the models seemed out of place and had infuriating glitches.

Pretty sure these games are going to be handled by SEGA Hong Kong, which lead the PlayStation 2 re-release of NiGHTS.

The graphics were updated terribly. Sonic's model fit in with everything else in the Dreamcast release, but in the DX one he literally had 5x more polys than anyone else. There were people walking on the streets who were just a touch heavier model-wise than Lara Croft was in the first Tomb Raider, but they were not updated at all, so it stands out even more in the worst way possible.
Someone like Big had a brighter texture and stuff, sure, but his fingers were more detailed than any other part of his body, and they never moved so it did not even make any sense why they did that.
Some models like Amy were obviously just built around the original, and because her head size was changed her eyes would sometimes sink into her head (I think Knuckles had the same problem, they probably all did).
They were also way too shiny now for some reason. Tails was so shiny he was practically glowing white even though he is supposed to be made of fur.
Characters like Gamma and Robotnik were remained unchanged, when especially Robotnik was comically terrible looking for the time. I mean he was barely acceptable for 1998, why would they not even slightly alter his animations?!?
Not even going to go into detail about some of the levels being altered for the worst. They are really insignificant changes to art and sounds to what should have been easy fixes for the level layouts. There was also a lot of new problems like slowdown and control issues that just boggle my mind...
They even removed a lot of the extra options and sound test stuff! The only thing that really made it not a complete waste of money in comparison was that they added all of those Game Gear titles, which was pretty cool, but because they will surely not be in the XBLA/PSN releases... I could take or leave the mission mode, but it is nothing special.

I dunno, perhaps to be comical?

It is not really funny as much as it is embarrassing. There is a lot they could have done to have made him a funny character, though.
