I have suggested that we were going to do a Podcast and I'm still up for it. But I wanted to get some feedback from the users here. I'll make it fast and simple.
1. Name! We need suggestions.
2. Length. How long do you guys want us to aim for?
3. Weely, bi-weekly or montly? We want to not miss an episode for you guys, so this is important.
I assume content delivery by direct link and iTunes is fine for everyone? Including a flash player?
-
How about BitCast?
Or George and Pal's Variety Hour featuring Sega?
Not sure about length though, I don't really follow podcasts very much, so I don't know what the average is.
As for episode frequency, maybe once a month or so? I think more often than that and there probably wouldn't be that much Sega-news to talk about.
-
I think the usual length is 45min to an hour.
I guess it would really depend on what you guys were talking about. Maybe a different SEGA series/game could get a spotlight section in each episode ala Retronauts.
As far as frequency, it'd probably come down to what you guys thought you could handle. I'm really not sure how much work goes into putting on one, so I wouldn't want to suggest anything too crazy.
Probably nothing more frequent than bi-weekly.

Talking about a classic game would be a great idea. :: puts it in notebook :: :afroman:
-
A bi-weekly show would be great.
It takes time to round-up all the good highlights of the week. And since that there can be some slow weeks(especially in the summer), it's gives enough time to fully flesh out everything.
Talking about a classic game is a great idea
-
I like the MadeManG's BitCast name idea. If there were a few suggestions, we could even have a poll on the main site to pick the top choice.
Having it up on iTunes would be a must.
The roundup section at the beginning's also a great idea. Highlighting any recent/upcoming releases and/or newly announced titles.
-
I vote, when we can be arsed to do one... Because we all know THATS how it's going to go down.
-
Id like to hear a podcast but to be honest my attention span is crap especially when listening to talking so I think 45 minutes is far too long... 20 - 30 sounds good to me.
names :S uhhhh
and I think monthly would be enough... monthly would ensure a higher quality as there would be more to talk about.
-
I discovered Sega Nerds by searching for "sega podcast" in iTunes, so I think you would be missing out if you didn't have SEGA in the title somewhere.
I would love it if it were weekly or Bi-Weekly. I drive a lot, so I listen to podcasts in the car, updated from my iTunes feed. You should have it divided into sections:
News
Listener feedback and mail,
questions (forums, twitter, facebook),
Reviews and New game discussion
Classic game feature of the week (or bi-week or whatever)
And I like where you invited different community members in your community podcast to participate. That should be enough material, even if there isn't a lot of SEGA news at some point.
-
Make sure kogen is in each one :afroman:
-
Sega Sound Bits. Or something.
Length? Depends on how far are you willing to go with jokes and such. I personally don't like "serious" show. If you're going that route, I'd say 30 minutes. If you're going the relaxed, some times offtopic, way, I'd say 60-90 minutes.
A biweekly show would be nice, but it won't be possible because there will be nothing new to discuss most of the times. I'd say once a month, with specials during times like E3 and Gamescom.

That's why it's a good thing that there's so much old SEGA stuff to talk about. So many classic games to highlight.

I'm thinking
Segabits Swingin' Report show

I see retrogaming as an interesting feature, with each show featuring a classic game, with a bit of discussion on said game and one or two music tracks from that game playing some time in the show. Frequent shows about discussed and rediscussed subjects like why the 32X failed would really make me unsubscribe the thing.
An idea I had. Get guests in the show, interview them. Heck, if they are available, have them as guest hosts for the full show.

Awesome, awesome. We still need to come up with a name, .
But we will be recording tomorrow, posting it up on Friday. I don't know how long iTunes takes to approve a new podcast, so don't know if it will make up on iTunes for that day.
I had an idea for the intro, like have the scramble noises from Jet Set Radio and then say the podcast name in a digital type of voice? I actually need ideas to this :3

I think it takes 24-48 hours for it to show up on iTunes. Mine is a video podcast, so for an audio one it might be shorter, since they don't have to look for porn on an audio one.
Only the first time, though. After that, other episodes show up in like 30 minutes.

SEGA Bits Podcast sounds like a good name, Emmett brought up a good point with having SEGA in the title, so best you separate the names SEGA and Bits for the podcast.
My only request is make sure Ryan is not allowed to only play Jet Set Radio music for every podcast like he did with SEGA Nerds. There ARE other songs you can use.
-
Just call it SEGA Bitscast.

Funny thing is, he already suggested Jet Set Radio music.

Stop whoring JSR. Stop pretending you're IGN.
-
The episode does not even have anything to do with Jet Set Radio. A big topic is Shinobi, so why not use some of that music?

Play U Won't 4Get ME.

Needs moar Bentley Jones representation

1. SEGAbits Swingin' Report Show (I like this one)
SEGAbits Blast
SEGAbits Sound Test
2. 30-45 mins, 1 hour for specials
3. bi-weekly or when you can be arsed to do one
-
Here is what we got. We already recorded the first one and thanks to Aki-at's awesome lag and microphone on laptop we had some issues.
1. Name: SEGAbits Swingin' Report Show
2. Time: We tried to be shorter, but lets be honest, its hard. I think we went on about 1 hour 20 mins.
3. We decided to try and make it weekly, we want to be more constant than the Nerdcast used to be. Monthly wouldn't get us a following. I mean 12 a year?
The hardest part of the podcast is editing and getting everyone on at the same time. I think we might have community people more often than writers, since we can't always make it on and 3+ people is the best way.
-
When will it be edited and ready to listen to?
-
well its a bit over 50 mins. Not an hour. Just seemed like we went way over.
I'm uploading it to the server now. After I figure out the RSS stuff I'll post it in the front page
-
We are having issues with the RSS feed, but the eps is up:

Sounds great! Needs more Billy Hatcher and Bentley Jones (Bentley Hatcher)?
I was really expecting to hear George yell "Segabit's Swingin' Report Show!", with reverb of course.
-
REVERRRRRRRRRRB. I know the sound consistency is not perfect, but we shall work on it. Aki-at really needs a headset since he drifts back and forth from his Laptop mic.
-
There were a few sound issues near the beginning, but overall, an excellent first podcast guys. Great job :).
The length really wasn't an issue at all. Nothing dragged on, so it seemed to go by really fast. Maybe a bit more time dedicated to the retro-game of the week, but otherwise awesome stuff.

Can't seem to get the right link to the itunes feed. I click this link:
http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZSt ... =355984415 (http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?i=80857304&id=355984415)
Tells me its not on the iTunes store. Regardless, its up. I just saw it via search.
-
Subscribed. Thanks
-
So when's the next podcast going up?
-
We want to get one up before E3, for sure.
-
Sweet :).
Looking forward to it
-
Why don't you guys do a year in review podcast?
Plenty of material to work with. Bayonetta, Yakuza 3, Valkyria Chronicles 2, Sonic 4, Sonic Colours, Afterburner Climax, the return of Shenmue, and more.
Plus there's always a preview of next year with Yakuza 4, Yakuza for PSP, Valkyria Chronicles 3, the PSN/XBLA port of Space Channel 5: Part 2, etc...
Even the games made by former SEGA employees, like Ivy the Kiwi? and Child of Eden.

I agree, you should do these more regularly,
