Did you DL it? Did you play it? What did you think?
Me: Just remotely added it to my queue. Will play it tonight. Only thought so far is excitement. :afroman:
-
Waiting for the PSN version, I DOES NOT HAVE GOLD.
-
Xbox Live is down.
-
Damn, I loaned my Xbox 360 to a friend, but I'll text him about it.
-
Xbox Live is back. I forgot Europeans only get the demo tomorrow. Ding.
-
Make an american account.. I always have an american account.
-
You need a gold account, silly. I have an American one, but it's silver obviously.
-
I've read a lot of very excited comments in the neogaf forum, this will be for sure a really great game. I hope SEGA will make a strong marketing for it, the risk is high that it won't sell much as a lot of people still don't know the game. Can't wait to try the demo tomorrow
-
Hearing good things form some other forums. The game does require a decent marketing push though, it is not too well known outside of those who use message boards on a regular basis.
-
Hey-yo!! Someone has already leaked the demo!
-

Sorry, please understand I'm in sleep deprivation SADFACE
Anyway, please tell me this won't be PS+ exclusive for a freaking week.

FUCKHOT!!!
-
Wow... It certainly looks like more fun than Gears of War 3. =D
Japan does what American't?
-
Though ironically, Vanquish probably would play better in English. Never met a cigarette smokin' American named Sam that spoke fluent Japanese. :P
-
Hey-yo!! Someone has already leaked the demo!
How can it be leaked if it's already on Xbox Live?
-

Blah, that's not irony, that's personal opinion. I'd wager that the Japanese voices are going to be better, since quality American voice actors are always getting fewer and farther between. =/
I mean, just imagine if they got the Funimation & 4Kids stables to provide the American voices...

I think he meant it's publicly available on torrent sites. You don't need a gold account to play those.

I'm sold. Sigh, too many awesome games, I can't take it anymore!!
-
PS3 demo is up.
-
This demo proves that SEGA needs to put Platinum on lockdown, and by that I simply mean "never sign with another publisher once their current deal ends."
I was pretty confused at first while playing, but after adjusting everything felt natural and I could zip around the level while hammering away. The QTE-like sequence had me giggling, thanks to being very "Viewtiful." I very much want this game...
-
Played the demo tutorial and a bit of the level. LOVE IT.
Reminds me of what I wanted Gunvalkyrie to be with a touch of Burning Rangers (the rockets in the suit and the talking heads transmissions). Also, the game has lovely colors.
-
Very hectic, very fun.
Staying behind one piece of cover is generally a pretty bad idea in this game.
-
Also, the game has lovely colors.
It does? >_>
It looks rather gray and washed-out to me.
-
The game's graphics are OK. The textures look bad at some points, good in others. The PS3 version does not look crisp, I assume its sub-HD. Pop in shadows... eh.
Its fun though.
-
Not yet available. What the heck? It was supposed to be out today.
Edit: it's so odd. Yesterday there was a Vanquish section in the marketplace, with a couple of trailers, today it just vanished.
-
Also, the game has lovely colors.

It looks rather gray and washed-out to me.
Very colourful sparks and whatnot shooting around all the time.
-
Damn, Sega kinda dropped the ball on this one. The demo got delayed for a full day.
-
So is there a good reason... why the European demo isnt up yet?
-
You touch yourself at night? Just make a US account.
Also, the game is not colorful at all. Sorry, I have to side with Fluffy.

I said the game has lovely colors, not that it is double rainbow all the way. Colors can be anything from grays and browns to purple and burgundy, dark, light, whatever. Anyway, to be more specific, I like the stark white and gray with the touches of blue, red and orange explosions. Also, Sam's suit has some cool touches, like the little greens and blues. See? Colors. Check the training session to see what I mean, it's all stark and white but once the sparks start flying and you go into bullet time mode it gets very pretty.
-
The game looks nothing like that picture btw.
Game looks like this, explosions, some blue and gray.

It's finally out. I don't like it. My worst fears are confirmed, it's Gears of War on drugs. That being said, it carries with it the biggest issue I have with these "cover" games: hide behind your indestructible wall, wait for the enemy to stop firing, fire back, rinse, repeat, kill, win. I don't see any fun in this.
It took me a few attempts to kill the boss however. I had some trouble getting along with the controls, I'd rather have cover mapped to A instead of X. It feels more intuitive. Nice and cheap one hit kill by the way.
Artistically it's as bland as P.N.03 ever was. At least the enemies are coloured differently from the level. Graphically I didn't find it impressive at all. From what I've seen I don't think the demo does the final game justice in this department. It was nice to see the inclusion of a SD screen mode. Developers not ignoring people without HD screens for once is nice for a change.
Despite my negative feelings towards the demo, I really hope this game outperforms that Tecmo Gears of War with tits game. It was sad to see Bayonetta beaten by Darkstalkers and Dante's Inferno.
-
One hit kills?
What the fuck PlatinumGames, stop doing that!
Stop. Fucking. Doing. That.
-
Don't get me wrong, it's the occasional super attack. I say "occasional" but I don't know how often it's fired since I died to it every single one of the three times while in my little struggle with the evade/cover controls.
-
Maybe it's just not your kind of game, or did you enjoy gears?
-
Yeah, it's definitely not my thing. I was hoping Vanquish would be different enough to change my mind about this sort of game. I didn't like Gears of War as well but this is a thousand times better. At least you can see the enemies and the cover doesn't feel like glue. The shooting looks really good too.
-
Are you sure you are playing it with the right mind set... I watched a friend play it and he played it like a gears of war game hiding all the time doing nothing special, then i showed him 'how to play it' as I would say... Zipping around, slow mo-ing ever coupld of seconds, melee combat and stuff and suddenly it clicked with him on his next play though.
Also, people that DO like this game... Don't forget to give the demo a good rating on the XBL marketplace... better rating = more exposed.
-
I liked how he can throw a grenade to a group of robots, turn into slow-mo mode, fly past them and then aim at the grenade and watch it explode right in their faces.
-
It's due out today in Australia, I hope I can set it to download while I'm off at work.
-
played the tutorial and going to finish the demo right now, at the start i was like "OMG too many buttons to remember!" but after a few minutes it comes quite natural, i'm happy and even more excited about the game now! Just what i like, quick shooting a lot of enemies and electronic music lol :D Also, i like how Platinum Games likes to use the "slow motion" as super move in games, it works more or less like in Bayonetta
EDIT: i forgot to say that watching the trailers before the main character didn't impress me at all but playing it Sam is quite cool
-
While the actual landscape is not very colourful, the game makes up for it VERY well with all of the explosions being blue or red or yellow and the enemies all being very colourful.
I think the colour is actually handled very well and I'm happy with it. Lack of Colour was a big concern of mine... Screenshots don't do it justice.
-

I found your problem, the game wasn't designed to be played that way, infact you get penalized for the time you spend behind cover.
People should play it more like this:
[youtube:3ll4zc2s]mCQQvUx9vmY[/youtube:3ll4zc2s]
-
If the game is not mean't to be played behind a wall 24/7, they should have made the destructible.

I'm pretty sure there are attacks that hits you even behind cover, the big elite robot (Romanov) that appears after the gate opens can hit you even with you being behind cover. Not to mention regular enemies flank you or just jump above the cover.
And yeah, some covers are destructable too: (0:50)
[youtube:1g6pkt77]WTnZmCbsMlU[/youtube:1g6pkt77]
-
I know that 'some weapons' hit you behind cover and that some are destructible. But it seems to be only with bigger bosses and not when a regular bad guy shoots at you 800,000 times while you behind cover. Should have made walls more weak.
-
First stage = learning curve stage. I bet that its gonna get more intense and interesting as you progress.
-

I don't think bullets should be destroying thick covers, but anyway that's not I'm getting at.
The developers are giving you a choice whether you want to play it like a cover based TPS or go sliding everywhere, but they encourage the latter play style.
Making the cover get destroyed easily will be inconvenient for those who want to play it like Gears of War.
-
Do you get a lower score or some other kind of effect from staying in cover?
I think that would be fair enough, because if you are reallly struggling to finish the game you can use cover to your heart's content, but if you want to go for the high scores and get into the real meat of the game, you need to learn to get by without using it much.
Similar to Bayonetta and the lollipops, if you used them it hurt your score by a good degree. That way if you are struggling to get through a section you can say 'Fuck the high score' and just survive, but if you want to go for the real meat of the game and get high-scores, you can't really use them.
As long as it has some kind of negative effect, then it should be cool.
-
Yes, points are deducted for using cover. See at the end of the match it says a cover used %.
-
If the game is not mean't to be played behind a wall 24/7, they should have made the destructible.
My thoughts exactly. I'd probably like the game more if it was more like this, especially if I could destroy the enemies' covers. I did play more or less like those videos people posted and my feelings remain. It's still Gears on drugs. Actually, I felt the sliding to be a little plot to add some "coolness" to the game, it didn't seem crucial to use it, at least in the demo. The demo doesn't exactly invite the player to try a different approach from Gears anyway.
-
Yes it does... The game is score based like any good Sega game you get a score at the end taking into account a lot of thing... Such as how much cover you used, how many people you saved, time taken...
It is nothing like gears if you are playing it as it is ment to be played... Trying to better your speed and score on each run.
I've been playing the demo all day and I honestly think it might be the best 3rd person shooter I've played this gen, Try doing the level with out using any cover at all... It's great fun.
-
Double post,
If I was making this game... I would have it so the plot twist at the end is that, Sam is actually a cripple and has to be in a wheel chair when he is outside of the suit. Wouldn't that be a real mind blowing twist?!
...Kind of want this to be real, seems almost as if it could be... *crosses fingers*

Cover is still part of the game. Unless you're in the elite that will be able to beat the game without using cover *at all*. I don't think I fit that select group.

Not that hard, truth be told. Personally I wouldn't expect anything less from PG, they did it with Bayonetta.
-
Ryan, you are just not playing Sonic 06 and Beast Rider right, these are actually great games you just have to play them better.
*cough* Anyways, outside of the story EVERYTHING in Gears of War 2 (cannot remember if the first was) is score based, time and stuff is taken to account too, and to top it off it can be played with a large group of people too...
While I have not played Vanquish yet still, something I can say Gears does better is weapon variations and the active reloading system. I do not know why Vanquish has such generic weapons and the active reloading system is one of the best new concepts in games this generation I think... Perfect for a game you need to take cover in.
-
I'd play Sonic '06 a little more if it didn't appear on my gamercard. I think I need a second account for my shit games. But then again theres the G points.... gah!
-
But then again theres the G points.... gah!
You ever gonna tell anyone what that fuckin' G stands for?
-
So I finally got around to playin it last night for a bit, holy crap I was bad at it. Got killed by the first guy like 5 times.
I was playing on Normal and without having done the tutorial yet, since I only had a few minutes to try it out, so I'm gonna give it a proper go later today. Even with just that though, it looked really really cool! Much more interested than I was previously.
I loved the fact that he somehow slid UP the stairs on his knees, that was funny.
EDIT:
Okay, now I've played it properly, I really am liking this a lot.
At first I was kind of underwhelmed, and didn't really like it all that much. Mostly getting frustrated with how easy it was to burn through the Boost/Attack meter.
When the boss arrived though, I really got into it, and I found myself having a lot of fun. The boosting looks incredibly cool and I love boosting around the stage going in and out of bullet time to attack enemies. I find that I hardly use cover unless i'm in trouble or cooling the suit down.
Aki-at even told me about how you can throw a grenade, then bullet time and shoot the grenade in mid-air! That was brilliant!
On my second playthrough I found the Sniper's Rifle, then discovered you can kill the Mech Operators and commandeer the mechs! Awesome!
One question though, what does smoking do? I've done it a few times but not sure what it actually is used for.

I did it a couple of times too but i neither understood HOW i did it and it happens just when i was hiding behind some wall :|

Pretty sure it is to get heat seeking missiles and the like away from you. Pretty cool.

It happens when you press LB behind a wall from memory.

Ahhh, I remember something about that now thanks. I did try it in the demo and when he threw the ciggie away a nearby soldier started shooting at it as it flew by. Not sure if that would be sufficient to break their fire, but it looked cool at least.

No it isnt, it is used when you are hiding behind a cover but so many enemies are shooting at it that there is no break in fire to pop up.
When you smoke it, he tosses it away and for about a second all the enemies shoot at the fag giving you enough time to pop up go into slow-mo and shoot them all.
-
I never had played a "hide n shoot" game before. This one is mind-blowing. I had lots of fun. The boss was hard but not frustrating. Looking forward for it.
-
Finally played it. My big issue is that it seemed really all over the place, like it was hard to focus on anything going on. The controls are kind of confusing too, but I should be get it down eventually.
I like it.
-
I like it.

Anyway, PlatinumGames.jp made a small contest on the demo, whoever gets the best score/completion time wins (I think)
This guy is probaby one of the participants, he finished the demo in 4:46 minutes only!

I feel like this game has all the sense of style and crazy fun I've come to expect from platinum games. Their games are so ''larger than life'' its a refreshing break from all the realistic games out there.
I'm very impressed by the demo. Probably a day 1 purchase for me. I kinda like how the action sprays all over the place makes it more exciting and feel like a battlefield.
-
I've probably played it every day since demo released.

Hey MrFranklin, welcome to the forums man. I remember you from the sega forums if i'm correct, if so, glad to have you here :D
Ontopic: I'm gonna download the game now after being lazy for days lol. I'll give my impressions later
