I played it today and I was left with more questions than answers. The combat is very meh, does not feel smooth at all. Then the 'riding' sections are just slow jabs while moving forward. The story, in the demo, did not feel epic or told well.
The graphics are what people are hyping about, saying that the game looked better than God of War III. Errr, no. The game does not even have AA and I hear it has framedrops on the 360.
The game is getting 7's in sites and fans are overrating it imo. I was left with a big negative taste in my mouth.
(The game is on the PS3 UK store and weighs in at about 1.5gbs.)

I actually think it looks really interesting. It seems like a game I would enjoy from what I've seen and heard of it. I think I'm going to plan on getting it at some point.

It doesn't even look or feel like a Castlevania game at all. That's the biggest problem I have with it right up front.
Then there's the fact that they've reduced this great series to a "it's God of War, but" type of game. -___-

>Castlevania
>expecting something else than disappointment

George deems me mentally deranged, yet contradictorily laments this game being a low-tech, Japa-God of Vania, betraying an inability to connect the causal factors for that with present gaming market conditions.

I never said it was like God of War, its more like Castlevania 3D titles on PS2. Just isn't good.

Castlevania 64 is still the only game worth playing.
First boss is a giant skeleton monkey.

That seems more like Devil May Cry - the first one.
Why do they even insist on reinventing the series into 3D, though? This isn't the late 90's anymore. People are just fine with 2D or "2.5D" sequels to classic games now.

Because it allows the series to make lots of innovations I would think.
Personally, I'm more excited for Lord of Shadows than I have been for a Castlevania game in quite some time.

In what way does this innovate on 2D gameplay?
It doesn't. It's something completely separate from 2D gameplay altogether.

Point is, its not trying to be GOW its Castlevania, which copied DMC. Which is funny, East cries about games that get copy GOW, but doesn't realize so many games copied DMC, including GOW itself.

Lament of Innocence came out in 2003, God of War came out in 2005. They already 'transitioned' to the 'action game' phase well before GOW hit the scene.
