It looks like a really nice game from these screenshots. I'm excited!

Those are fairly detailed textures for a game like this. I am legitimately impressed.

It's a Marvel movie licenced game made by Sega. Do not get your hopes up.

Not getting my hopes up, but the graphics look nice at least.

I agree, the visuals do look quite good. I just can't wait to see it in action.

I'm pretty much in the same boat:
Looks nice - Poor track record = Cautious optimism

Well, this game ties in more with the upcoming film but in the comics he was dead. Bucky, who was his sidekick took on the mantle of Captain America(albeit in a bit of a different tone). Then in the story arc Captain America: Reborn it was shown that via some revitalization technology that Steve Rogers body had been revived but he had become "unstuck in time" like in the novel "Slaughterhouse Five". Anyway, Steve eventually was able to make it back to the present and teamed up with Bucky and several other heroes to take on the Red Skull. They were victorious and now Steve Rogers is once again among the living in the Marvel universe.

Game is being done by the developers of Super Punch Out!!, Mario Strikers and Spider Man Friend or Foe.

They have only done one bad game, the Tranformers one (it was a Wii port only)

This is both why I find comic books fascinating and why I don't read them lol

Hmm... Screenshots look pretty good for a movie tie-in, again Sega is pulling an Iron Man 2, with the same cast of characters in a new storyline that takes place in the same universe as the movie.

Still, like someone said, don't know if it was here or in another board, I got a weird Wolfenstein vibe out of this game.

He dies all the time. He's like the Kenny of the Marvel universe or something. Only, it's not done for laughs like it was in South Park; Marvel just has completely incompetent writers.

Game seems meh. Wasn't his outfit lacking the tiny head wings before? I could have sworn...

And you are correct.

This game features the classic Captain America model, which is slighty different from the one on the new movie.

Talk about an upgrade, then. The new movie version looks horrible. At least the old outfit could be argued as being iconic, even if it is a little goofy.

YEah, dislike the new outfit. Stars and Strips.

As far as I know he only died once.

Unless you count things like The Infinity Gauntlet and Secret Wars.

As for the outfit, I'm glad that the classic suit will be in this game as it is the one I like the most. The film version is very similar to Cap's outfit from The Ultimates.

Some of the megadrive Sega/Marvel games were pretty damn good...

Then maybe you should play SPIDER MAN VS KINGPIN,XMEN and XMEN 2 CLONE WARS and prehaps if you can find it SPIDER MAN THE VIDEO GAME. Excellent sega made marvel games and excellent video games based on a marvel license in general.

Apart from that since hayes is now in charge of SOA too maybe this game will be different(depending when it was commissoned) So far Hayes had to clean up the mess that Jeffery left behind by canning all sorts of games some good some garbage, virtually saved sega's aliens license singlehanded as well as pursuring and cemented the better deals that he or jeffery did create. Wait and see on this one even though i perfer it to be based on the actual film.

X-Men 2: Clone Wars was one of my favourite Genesis games of all time, but the recent track record of Marvel licensed games hasn't been that great.  Those games also weren't rushed out to coincide with a theatrical release.  A big factor in the quality of every tie-in game.
GoldenEye was an awesome tie-in.  It came out a year and a half after the movie.

That said, the new Punch Out was pretty great, so this could be solid. We'll see.

I hope this one turns out well...

I actually think a Captain America game has as much potential as a Spiderman game... Thor however, not so much.

I hope you can throw your shild like a boomerang.

Thor has a hammer, crushes skulls. How is that not awesome?

Not to mention he can also fly, call forth lightning and is really strong.

I can't say that I've ever read a Thor comic book with battles that were exciting or suspenseful, though.

He may be powerful, but so are lots of other characters. Who cares? Goku is more powerful than Thor, and yet Dragon Ball Z is just as boring and predictable. I don't get how his powers make Thor inherently "awesome" when they're absolutely nothing special.

Well, the stories around the character is what makes me like him so much. The stories of Thor during Walt Simonson's run in particular are very good.
He is a hero for two worlds basically. He fights alongside Earth's heroes but he also fights for the heavenly realm of Asgard and his loyalties between the two make him an interesting character in my opinion.
But anyway, this is more of a discussion for whenever there is another thread about the upcoming Thor game. Let's focus on good ol' Cap for this topic. =)

Okay then. :P

I'd still like to see Captain America turn into the Dan Hibiki of the Marvel universe. You know, where he thinks he's the greatest because he's got "AMERICAN POWER!", when in reality he's only a bit stronger than the average guy of his build.

Marvels version of Thor looks like a massive douchebag.
I just don't think his story is very good either.

Seems like he wouldnt make a good videogame character.

So this game will be set during World War 2 then? Will be interesting to see if they have any modern-day action as well, or if it's purely WW2 era. In any event, hope there is lots of good brawling action.

Yeah, I think the game will be primarily set in WWII, but the concept art has Madame Hydra so it is possible there will be a modern section too.

Is there such thing as a Mecha Hitler in the Captain America series?

I don't think so, but it had its fair share of German mad scientists making wacky inventions and the like.

I can't say for sure as I haven't read the Golden Age issues, but I'm pretty sure The Red Skull was the antagonist for most of the stories.

Seems like a pretty cool villain. I'm starting to get interested in this..

I really like these comic-based storylines, I just don't have the patience to read them all..

The first trailer is up now and we can see what the game play is going to be like.

It's got some platforming! Awesome.

Wow, this looks like it has potential! It's going to depend on how well it's executed, but the mix of platforming and brawling (and shield throwing) looks like it could be really fun!

Yes there were giant robots or mecha during the WW2 Captain America stories but not when it was in the golden age of comics. The real great cap stories came two decades later during the period when Marvel burst onto the comics scene in the sixties with Fantastic four, Spider man and Iron man, hulk, etc. As for THOR, its my fave character from marvel but I'd wish they being sega decided to base these licenses on the comic and use the art style from them as well. Seeing THOR in a jack kirby or Walt Simonson graphic style would be great.
As for Soups comment: Your right they're not too much and that's really down to how they are approching the license compared to the genesis era. Sega's marvel deal in the nineties or any film license deal in that period was handled by Sega japan (who did the arcade versions) and Sega of america  who did most of the console versions, depending on the license. Nowadays they're acting seperate when it comes to license titles its a joke. SOJ does a RAMBO light gun game but Sega west doesn't or can't do a Rambo game like a FPS. Or Sega west does an aliens game but SOJ hasn't done a new one for arcades. Until they can unify in that regard when it comes to big licenses i think you will see an imbalance, of course that'sjust one part of the problem.
