Title: UPDATED 11/25 - The SEGAbits Challenge Thread
Post by: Barry the Nomad on October 13, 2010, 07:55:42 am
Inspired by the time attack talk in the Sonic 4 thread, I thought I'd start up a thread dedicated to SEGA gaming challenges. Here's how I think it should work, though I welcome suggestions:

We'll kick the thread off with a Sonic 4 SHZ act 1 time attack challenge (consoles only). Anybody can participate, and all they need to do is try for the best time and then post their time in the thread. I think we can all trust each other, so screengrabs will not be necessary. As long as other members can view your leaderboard score on the respective console, it should be all good. The top three players will be ranked on the main post, and the rankings will be updated as times are beaten. Simple as that.

Additional challenges can be suggested and if others deem it a suitable challenge, then it'll be added to the list below. For example, when Vanquish arrives we could have a score attack challenge. So go at it! Make the list and earn some dharma points!

Sonic 4 (360, PS3, Wii) - No Super Sonic allowed
Splash Hill Zone act 1 time attack
1. Suzuki Yu 0.45.00
2. ezodagrom 0.49.79
3. SOUP 0.52.45

Sonic 1 Green Hill Zone Act 1 Thanksgiving Special speed run: Any device is good, though it has to be a classic normal mode. No Sonic Jam spin dash enabled business. Post your times, pilgrims!
1. ezodagrom 0:34
2.
3.

Vanquish Give me an idea for one please.  :afroman:

Forgot to mention, I know some have done some speedy times and posted them in the Sonic 4 thread, but please repost them here for them to be counted. I don't want to dig back through the thread and I can't remember which ones were iPhone scores.

As such, Orta is #1 until some of the faster scores get shared here!

Can Super Sonic count?

Forgot the consider that! No, he cannot. However, we could have a Super Sonic challenge going for this act or a different act. Perhaps we can wait a week to give more folks a chance to rack up the emeralds :)

Once you get the exact I'll put you in!  8-)

No screengrabs yes, however I'm certain SEGAbits members on your PSN friends list will gladly tattle on you. Did I mention you get bonus dharma points for tattling?

I got about 1 minute 32 on the iPhone. The 38 seconds video above is ridiculous!!! Although not as scary as the Sonic Adventure speed runs.

The SA speedruns were flat out glitch-o-ramas, it's nice that the Sonic 4 speedruns don't rely on using bugs to save on time. I really liked how the player shaves time off loops by jumping halfway through. Smart.

What about Score Attack for both Sonic and Super Sonic in each zone or add them all together?

Like a total game score attack?

btw, got 1.02.00 this morning, but it was in score attack so it isn't up on the leaderboards. Anyway, I'm updating mine but plan to crack a minute this weekend in time attack. I need that 10G!

Yeah or like for each stage.

Just joined the 1 minute club at 59.71 seconds.

Staring to see a lot of glitches, with people posting zero times for all stages and unfeasibly high scores in score attack.

My best so far is 1'00''79 on the PSN.
Still working on it.

Updated the listing, kozmo was so close but was edged out by SOUP. Can kozmo return? Find out on the next exciting episode of Dragonball Z!

Anybody have a challenge idea for Vanquish? I've yet to pick it up, so I can't name one myself.

I know I missed the boat here but got 58.55 seconds this morning on the iPhone :-). Saw Vanquish today. Still not sure if it is a purchase, will have to try the demo more.

Um you don't mine if I post my score attack on each zone?
SHZ Act1: 94,200
SHZ Act2: 99,300
SHZ Act3: 114,300
CSZ Act1: 210,720
CSZ Act2: 66,050
CSZ Act3: 37,950
LLZ Act1: 26,000
LLZ Act2: 11,2900
LLZ Act3: 61,600
MGZ Act1: 31,600
MGZ Act2: 65,100
MGZ Act3: 30,300
ESZ: 85,600

And I think Yu Suzuki gucci'd (beat) me in one of them haha and I kinda used Super Sonic in some zones, but I always get the same time or score anyways. I'll post my boss ones later on.

Hey kids! In celebration of Thanksgiving, I'm issuing a retro classic challenge.

Sonic 1 Green Hill Zone Act 1 speed run. Any device is good, though it has to be a classic normal mode. No Sonic Jam spin dash enabled business. Post your times!

Also, I want to issue a VANQUISH challenge, but am not sure what to do. Any ideas?

Hmm, let's see, Splash Hill Zone Act 1 Wii version - 0:49:79.

And, to at least have something in the Sonic 1 challenge (mine is the PC digital download port), Green Hill Zone Act 1 - 0:34 (wasn't really attempting at speed running, but probably can't do much better).

This thread is a mess. Just make different challenge threads for each game, and do not sticky them. Do not make me punch you in the knee Barry, that would be a brisk annoyance.

It's so easy to criticize, isn't it Sanus? I'm starting to think that's all you do.

Might I suggest you post a time rather than pick apart the topic? I bet you are so slow at GHZ act 1. Like 9 minutes slow! Prove me wrong.
