Only the temporary official logo is available right now. You can see clearly that Sega has the copyrights over the series, same as Red.
And this new game is not being developed by Sega...
It's an online game for PC, published by Roc Works, planned and designed by Red and developed by Trinity Game Studio.
Wondering where is Sega right now and what they are thinking about this...
New info will be available soon.
Note:
- Pengo (Triangle Service)
- Shenmue (Sunsoft)
- Sakura Taisen (Roc Works)
- Bakugan (Activision) āforgot that ;p
Who's next, Sega?
-
Are these online browser games a big thing in Japan now?
-
Dangit! I'm about to get really mad right now.
First Shenmue and now Sakura Wars.

Why would anyone get angry about this or Shenmue.
Sega is a buisness and as a buisness the aim is to make money. Mobile and online games are a huge fad in Japan right now and it only makes sense that Sega would use their own already established IPs to tap into this market.
You should be HAPPY that these games haven't been forgotten about, At worst you aren't getting a new game in these series, which is no different to before this was announced... At best this is a test of the water to see if there is still enough interest in the series to bring them back.

You are right, but I've been waiting for big things from both series for a while now. You have to understand that when I saw "New Sakura Taisen announced" I got really excited.

The series is not very popular in Japan anymore. They need to try and branch the old games out to other territories and hope to catch a niche market if they want it to keep going.
All of the parties involved with the series are probably not that interested though. Multiple companies own the rights to the music, art, gameplay concepts, story, even the setting. It is to the point where all of them involved just do not want to deal with all of that anymore.
-
So how is SEGA involved in this except for having their name stamped on the products?
-
Red Entertainment owns Sakura Taisen, no one is publishing. Its a browser game. Admin duties go to Roc whatever the fuck.
-
sega still owns SAKURA TAISEN, this game is like the SHENMUE CITY situation, they let someone else publish it.
