So badass!

That was pretty cool! I quite like that dry narration.
I still think that the original Yakuza 4 trailer was better, but this was very well done. Hope it's the first of many to come! Considering they have one out already when the game isn't scheduled until 'Q1 2011' it's good to see!
-
Can't wait to play it :D.
-
OH yeah, and the boxart actually looks great this time around, nice to see after the terrible English boxart for 3.

I don't think this trailer is all that great. It's just some narrator with a crappy "gruff" voice saying random stuff about how rough and dirty the Japanese underworld is for a few minutes over gameplay and cinema footage.
I would have much preferred a trailer with some actual plot or gameplay details instead. But whatever... =P
-
Those colours are kinda hard to read. Looks cool though.
But yeah the trailer could have been better (I much prefer the Japanese Yakuza 3 and 4 trailers), but for what it was it was pretty different and cool.
-
I think they're pretty much just approaching it as a way to introduce the game to people who've never heard of the series. Hopefully get some new people into it.

Okay I see you spent a painfully long time on the colors.
Should've used em in a sonic thread.
Anyway, yeah the trailer isn't all that, it isn't even organic in terms of the games tone. But as Sharky said, it is bad ass.

Perhaps, though that train of thought kinda depends on having newcomers stumble upon the trailer in the first place.
On a side note, that fabulous cover art might be enough to turn some new heads this time around when it's sitting on store shelves. ^__^ Here's hoping.

my eyes fluffy my eyes

Yeah, looks like they're trying to hook in people who wouldn't normally think of playing a Yakuza game. Expanding that user-base and whatnot.
-
The more people it attracts, the more people that'll get hooked by the story, the more people that will buy the sequals and maybe even the prequals.

I love the Japanese trailers too, but in Japan they have the advantage of the dialogue being spoken in their own language. Sega undoubtedly wants to try to hide the fact that this is a subtitled game.Yakuza 3 had almost no dialogue in its US trailers, probably for that reason. 4 looks like it'll be the same way.
But I agree that this trailer is much better-done than the Yakuza 3 trailers. Sega is indeed hyping this game up well so far. It was announced in advance and we've had several trailers already. Yakuza 3 wasn't even confirmed for Western release this time last year.
-
'Sup ShadowLegend! Ain't seen you for ages, remember me?
And yes, I agree that it seems Sega is trying to hide the fact that this game is going to be subtitled with the use of voiceovers and all that. The opening of Yakuza 3 proves that you can make a great highlight reel without the use of dialogue at all, just get some of that awesome Yakuza music and play some clips of the game's cutscenes.

Yeah, totally! It worked for me, after all. ^__^
But I must note that Yakuza 3 was the first game of the series that managed to catch my interest, and the reason for that was because of a Japanese trailer demonstrating Yakuza's world and its various modes of gameplay. The Western market needs a trailer or two like that.

'Sup ShadowLegend! Ain't seen you for ages, remember me?
'course I remember you, haha. It's been a long time since I've seen you on Sega.
Anyway I was on VGchartz and I read the comments for this trailer, and people are freaking out because they're worried that Yakuza 4 will have English voice acting because of this trailer.
Whoops.

Why on earth...
I read the comments for this trailer, and people are freaking out because they're worried that Yakuza 4 will have English voice acting because of this trailer.
Whoops.
Yeah, as if SEGA were about to give the game that kind of budget. xD
No need to worry, as those people will get a hold of themselves and settle down eventually.
-
I don't use VGchartz for numbers anymore, but they're actually a great source for news. They're really on top of what's going on in the industry and they post a lot of news stories that other sites might not pick up on.
-
That was cool, but the Japanese trailers are incredible really get me hyped.

MORE!

Already posted in the front. Great character trailer.
That is a whole lot of love.
-
The trailers are really good.
-
I didn't like Shun Akayama's trailer at all.
Did anybody feel like playing a character like him?
I rather go for Duke Nuke, atleast he doesn't throw economics into his sleazy activities.
-
Are you mad because a woman is using him? I don't know why I wouldn't want to play as him...
His backstory is basically that he worked for a bank, someone framed him and he got fired. He used all his money he owned to 'catch the man the framed him'. In the end he became homeless.
Then on day a tower exploded (Events from Yakuza 2) and money was scattered. He used that money to open up his hostess thing club, then a loan company.
A woman comes and asks for a loan, because, you know, that is his job. He does tests and she passes. He lends her the money even though he thinks he will never see it returned...
The 100 billion yen in cash is actually stolen FROM him, by Kido (http://http://gigazine.jp/img/2009/09/24/ryu-ga-gotoku_four_ss/tgs_ryu4_14.jpg) and not really asked to be stolen, like the trailer implies. Though the plot does have to do with 100 billion yen.
Question: Why is it your OK with a muscular, half naked man going around blowing stuff up and sleeping with women. But when Bayonetta is 'sexy', you know, something every woman wants to feel, its a negative? Just wondering. Not even going to debate you on this. Just for my own curiosity.

I am surprised no one here is talking about the game much when almost all of us love the series. It comes out next month! Get excited!

I've avoided most of the conversation because I just want to start it up and eat/sleep/breathe the game until I finish the story. I don't really want to know much about it before that point. It's one of my favourite game series though, and I can't wait. I'm basically planning what games in the backlog I can get into at this point because I don't want to have anything going on when Yakuza 4 comes out.
-
I'm excited for it, but like SOUP said, I don't want to spoil anything if possible. I loved Yakuza 3 to bits, and I'm sure I'll love Y4 just as much.
The other thing is, MVC3 comes out in only 2 weeks, so that is my current 'OMGOMGOMG Can't WAIT!' game.
Thirdly, what would there be to talk about?

I've already played it myself, that's why i am not that excited
-
I'm very excited. Currently in Chapter 11 of Yakuza 3. Basically for this game and the last I've timed it so I can flow from one to the next without much of any delay between them.
-
I just got a ps3 recently and my ordered yakuza 3 still hasn't arrived. I am excited about yakuza 4 but because I still have to finish 3, I am more excited on receiving that game :P
I got all time and yeah, like alot of others said, Yakuza is a game where you don't wanna get spoiled alot. Another thing is that there isn't much to argue about apart from sharing experiences. Basically everyone (or at least almost) can agree that it's an amazing game with the perfect gameplay styles mashed together. The one who decided to make the random battles beatemup esque is a genius.
-
I love experimenting with picking up different objects to use for heat actions. Yesterday I was fighting someone in the public market, picked up a frozen tuna head and for the heat action slammed it down on top of an opponent's head and got an extended sequence where Kazuma kept punching it repeatedly so it was spinning like crazy on the guy's head.
-
Yeah, this series is the biggest reason I am getting a PlayStation 3. Of course there are a fair amount of other games I want that have been released through the years, this series is the straw that broke the camel's back, so to speak.
Should be starting Yakuza 3 this Friday. I am more than a little pumped.
