Has this news been mentioned anywhere here? It references this website but I didn't see this news anywhere.
Anyway, I thought it was lovely news and i'm happy SEGA made this choice. Bayonetta and Vanquish are truly great games

I did not know this, nice to get recognition.

We've known about this since TGS. Why is IGN only now picking it up?

Sega should buy Platinum Games.
-
If SEGA did buy PG, I'd prefer a Disney/Pixar relationship with PG being its own entity and SEGA just funding and publishing. I'd hate to see PG taken apart in a few years and combined with the Super Monkey Ball team.
-
I think PlatinumGames is content with being their own brand for now and do not want to be held down by anyone.
I would honestly kind of hate it if SEGA bought them, not for any personal reasons, but I generally would hate to go around the Internet seeing constant posts like "Platinum is the only good thing about SEGA!".

Seconded

Yes, It was announced at TGS. Though it wasn't 'set in stone' they said they where talking about future deals. I guess its through now.

So, what is Mikami's status with Platinum? Is he no longer associated with them in anyway and going to be contracted to Bethesda or whoever it was that bought him?
-
They didn't buy him, they bought his studio. He is free to work where he wants. He is still doing that EA game with Suda51. Vanquish was a one game deal, can he work with Platinum Games again? Sure. Will he so soon? Doubtful, he is barely starting a new studio, probably working on his big debut game for it.

The exact quote was “[The] relationship between SEGA and Platinum Games does not end with Vanquish.”
Why would they say that if it wasn't set in stone?

They said they wanted to, but where negotiating. I agree, I think we all knew it was a 'yes'. But SEGA could have said "NO, THANKS FOR THE FRANCHISES, GET OUT"
