Panzer Dragoon Saga
(http://http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/pdsaga-title.jpg)
or
Dragon Force
(http://http://www.emuparadise.org/fup/up/106961-Dragon_Force_(Saturn)_(E)-1.jpg)
I've had both for a while now and haven't had a chance to play them. Seeing as how I've got a week or so off work and things are slowing down a bit, I'd like to play through one of them like I played through the Shining Force III Trilogy earlier this year.
Suggestions? Pros and cons? Your input is appreciated!

Both are very great games.
I would personally go with Panzer Dragoon Saga, it's just that good. It is also rather short as far as JRPGs go, so you are likely to finish it with in the week.
Dragon Force can last you a lot longer.

That's surprising, I thought that PDS would be the longer of the two. If it's not that long, I'll probably go with PDS first. Thanks!

If you like dark themed, mysterious, arty games. Go for SAGAS. SAGAS is such a beautiful game and the vibe in that game can be found nowhere else (except of course in the previous 2 panzers) full of beautiful music. You fly from place to place, kinda like skies of arcadia. Cities are explored by foot and you can walk around, chill and talk to NPC's. Battle system is great, it's intuitive and keeps you alert. The story is strong and but at the same time vague and kinda hard to understand. It's originality in every sense of the word. Every aspect about the game is original and... yeah defenitly SAGAS. It's too bad that few people have got to experience this game due to saturns failure. It's hard for me to share my experiences with others without talking about the plot and all. Anyway, there you have my answer.
I haven't played a lot of dragon force but i heard a lot of good things about it too. I'll try it out later maybe.

First one. You are welcomed.
-
Panzer Dragoon Saga is a game you absolutely MUST play through with a free schedule, Dragon Force is one of those games you can pick up whenever I think.
Both are probably shorter than you are expecting I think.

Well I've been convinced. Thanks a lot for the input guys, I appreciate it. I'll be starting PDS tonight.
Funnily enough, PDS is one game that I've never really been that motivated to play despite all the hype and love for it. It might be because I was never a huge fan of the PD games on Saturn (even though I own PD 1 and 2 as well and now appreciate them considerably more), but I have a feeling i'll be pleasantly surprised.
-
I will be surprised if you walk away from the game claiming it is not one of your favorites of all time honestly.

Big call, but it's possible.
I'll be back later tonight with impressions if all goes as plans.

Started playing this morning. I've just finished the battle tutorial and had a fight against some low level enemies.
So far everything is really good, I think I'm going to like this game!
-
Man, it's always sad being done with a game allready. I never replay RPG's(except for shenmue) but even if I went through sagas once, you still make me jealous mademan
-
I'm now up to disc 2, I was surprised how quickly I finished disc 1.
The game really hit stride towards the end of disc one, the battles with Craymen and the final battle was brilliant! I'm starting to understand the intricacies of the battle system and it's really excellent. Between this and Skies of Arcadia Sega has made some of the best battle systems that never saw more than one game.
The graphics are still nice despite their age, although the flying sections still look fantastic, the towns haven't aged quite as well I think. The fact that everyone has voice acted dialogue is amazing though. Not to mention the music and everything is great as well.
-
Voice acted dialogue in a made-up language! PDS is the best game ever made. I felt that the dreamcast let me down. I bought it because I figured the next Panzer Dragoon was going to be on the Dreamcast.
Then I bought an XBOX and sold my Dreancast when Orta came out.

^I was 90% sure that the language in PDS is Japanese. I'm certain I've recognised a lot of Japanese in there anyway. I know that the other games were in a language designed for the game though.
It is really something special so far though, since my last post I've arrived at Zoah Villiage.
-
It's Panzerese, but it slips into Japanese a lot of the time. I have to play it again, but it might just be the cut scenes are panzerese and thr rest of the game is in Japanese.

You may be right. I noticed when walking around town and talking to villagers I notice a lot of Japanese words popping up (I don't speak Japanese fluently, but have some understanding), but during cutscenes it seems to be Panzerese.
In any event, I was going to play more tonight, but I'm kinda tired, don't want to play this game while sleepy, I'm sure i'll miss something good.
-
I always thought the language sounded unusual but I just concluded to myself that it's japanese. Panzerese huh? :P
The best thing about this game is the dragon morph system. It's something you still don't see even today.
-
^Yes! The Dragon Morphing is awesome. I just evolved to a striped wing, mostly using defense/attack powers.
-
I'm up to Uru Ruins. Really spectacular area, even with the dated graphics, it still impressed me just by how great it looked. Doubly so when I activated the seal and the sunset turned everything orange.
The boss fight was pretty good too, although a bit easy I thought.
-
I've played through maybe 3 or 4 times and tried different morph types to see the different spells. It's brilliant. Once in an interview Smilebit hinted that they were making a new RPG when Orta came out. That would be beyond amazing, but I think if they could get PDS on XBLA and PSN that would be pretty great too (even if it devalues our Saturn copies).
-
^That would be brilliant. Do you think there is any chance that Project Draco will have any elements of PDS?
I just escaped the ruins after fighting some mutants, while the game is getting better as it goes, those ruins were a collossal pain the butt! I hate those confusing dungeon style levels. Even so I can't wait to see what's next.
-
If you hate those kind of ruins, you're defenitly going to hate what's coming ahead lol. I liked the emphasis on exploration but there is one particular ruin that just got me to the point where I stopped playing for weeks. I don't consider it as a bad thing though.
-
I just faught the Behemouth. This last bit with the Forward attack post has been the best part of the game I think.
-
Never played any PDs besides Orta, and it was an amazing game...gorgeous world, too.
Next, I would recommend Blazing Heroes (Mystaria, and Riglord Saga in Japanese, all one game). Loved that one.
