Hey, this has been bothering me for awhile now..
My dreamcast doesn't save the date nor time...
it keeps asking for it every time I start it up...
ANd it's annoying..
By replacing my VMU batteries would it stop donig this?
like is the time/date saved onto the VMU rather than the console (Design flaw imo)
-
The date is saved by the console, not the VMU or anything.
These will be saved if you have the Dreamcast plugged in and will save for awhile after even if unplugged. The time and date will be saved for a longer period of time if you have had the console turned on for a longer period of time as well.
If you never unplug it you will never have any issues.

Yeah, it's the onboard battery. Since all the systems are pretty old by this point, the battery doesn't hold a charge too long, and forgets the time/date.
If you keep the system on, and in use frequently, it'll keep it's charge.

Google a guide for changing batteries, email GoatDan to include Dreamcast batteries in your next order.

I replaced my clear Dreamcast's batteries when I changed out the innards, about a year ago. However I'm afraid to open my mod chipped Japanese console as I don't want to f*** it up, so it will forever not know the time and date. Which is probably a good thing, as if my DC knew it was 2011 and was still hooked up to the TV, it would shit itself.
-
It shouldn't cause much of an issue either way. The only game I can think of that actually uses the clock is Seaman. And to play that game you've got to have the Dreamcast on for a bit twice a day for 2 weeks or so, so the battery should stay charged that way.

We're talking about that small battery on the circuit board at the front behind the controller ports right?
ANd it doesn't effect my gameplay,
I just like to be able to boot the console up sometimes without it asking for the damn time and date...
AND I'd like my save-data to be dated properly...
I got saves made in 2011, but it says it was made in 01/01/98...
why 98?
ALright so swap the battery out with a newo ne, let the console chill for about a day's worth of fair gaming, and i shouldn't ahve this problem til the battery craps out again on me .
Sweet.
Apperisate the help boys!

It resets to my birthday :D. (Month, and day, not year)

The DC was first released in '98, so it defaults to the first day of that year. 8-)
