Title: Yakuza 4 demo hits PSN. Plus Members only.
Post by: Shigs on February 16, 2011, 12:31:37 am
The demo has hit today in the U.S. at 621 MB. I'll give more details once I've had a chance to play the game. Downloading now!

Okay. Played the demo which is waaay too basic. You get four different fights playing as the four different characters in the game. Why? They all fight the same way! No roaming around town even. I played the Japanese demo and it at least had that.

So its basically worse than the Japanese demo?

Played the Japanese one, i'll probably wait it out till the release.

A lot of people returned the third game because the first few chapters are pretty much just talking, and to kids. It gave a really bad impression to anyone not in the know about the series. If SEGA focuses on marketing the fighting more, I think it has a much larger chance at becoming popular.

Not letting the player search the city is weird, though.

Well I think it's a bad decision to market the game as a "fighting game," because people will then be disappointed when they play the game and see that it's not a fighting game. Not sure what they were thinking with that. The game's explorable world is one of its biggest draws and cutting that out of the demo just seems dumb to me.

Why does it say I'm banned? Has Shadiwulf been messing with the HTML again and having a laugh?

Anyway, yea. The Japanese demo gives you a much better experience of what the full game is. You get a short story. Go out into the city. Do some brawling. Try out some mini games around town. It's lasts you around a half hour and gives you a good sample. And this was all in Japanese text! Not this 10 minute "brawl, brawl, brawl" crap. That's not what Yakuza is about. Well actually, it's 60% of what it's about but still.

That's weird that you're banned! But are still posting? I came on here and saw that and thought "what shit went down while I was away??". Best to send Sharky, George and Shadi a message.

I just got yakuza 3 a week ago and yeah, the start is slow. Honestly I found it to be partially boring. I found the that the whole orphanage/family thing did give kiryu a little bit extra character, but from gameplay perspective, I was asking myself "how long is this gonna take".

Anyway, this is my first experience with a yakuza on HD console. I love it, kazuma kiryu looks greater than ever. Weirdly enough, his new look suits his character alot more.

Need to finish it as soon as possible!! "goes playing the game"

Yakuza 3 was the slowest and most tedious in the series, IMO. Still a good game, but definitely the weaker entry. Hopefully 4 steps it back up.

I'm almost 100% sure it's just Shadi messing with me.

Anyone played it yet. Would like to hear some impressions. How are the visuals compared to 3? how's the pace?

Xplay did a preview of the demo, it's posted on the site's front page.

Visuals look a bit better than 3.

...does give the impression that it looks a little bit better. The animations seem to look alot more fluid too.

Not the best demo, but I liked it. I enjoyed Tanimura and Taiga's gameplay way more than I thought I would. In all honesty Tanimura might become my second favorite character in the game, maybe.

Taiga's story seems the most interesting overall though. Escaping from jail for revenge, learning how Majima lost his eye, wrestling on a beach in a luchador outfit. Man, I am damn excited.

I enjoyed the demo.
Instead of all the story bits, and free roaming from the Japanese demo, it's basically four back to back fights showing off the different play styles of the new characters.
I can't wait for this game to come out. I've avoided starting any RPG's, because I don't want to be playing anything else when it comes out in a couple weeks.

Okay, bit late to the party, but I gave this a shot yesterday. I enjoyed the fights enough, especially seeing that the custom weapons should make a return.

I get the feeling that Sega is trying really, really hard to not let anyone notice this game will be subtitled. Even the demo had just fights with zero dialogue and zero story. It's a shame that Sega has to hide subtitles so strongly...
