The difference between arcade and console Sega
« on: May 11, 2015, 06:51:36 am »

From the recent report: https://www.segasammy.co.jp/english/pdf/release/201503_4q_tanshin_e_final.pdf

For Arcade:
"In the amusement machine and amusement center industry, the market was sluggish due to the absence of major
market-driving titles, along with the diversification of ways to play on smartphones and other devices. In the
future, however, development and supply of innovative new game machines in line with diversifying customer
needs is expected to revitalize the market."

WE MUST INNOVATE TO DO BETTER

While on the consoles (packaged game):
"performance in the field was weak due to the harsh
market environment."

WE GIVE UP, basiciilly.

Exaggerating, but its the vibe it gives

If they wanted to move to be a exclusive PC publisher I wouldn't bat an eyelid... Would save me buying consoles which I don't really even want to play their games.

Doesn't 'packaged games' include PC titles as well though?

Either way, I also prefer PC and think it's smart for Sega to simultaneously release everything on that platform as well. Most games have been already, save for exclusives like Sonic Boom, which are super rare.

I'm more worried they are going to just dump their arcade division pretty hard with the reassigning of staff.

Should this thread be merged with the financial report one?
