You sunk my Battleship Kevin Butler! - The PSN is down topic
« on: April 26, 2011, 01:33:20 pm »
Six days in, PSN is still down and Sony has given no timeframe as to when it will return. The PSBlog is hilariously scattered with updates that give literally no info and no time frame has been given as to when it will be back.

But it gets funnier.

All of Sony's online services are down. I am not joking, they were literally all on the same server! Even features like Netflix are not usable at all on PlayStation 3 and even stuff like their Viao computers. I had no idea how out of control this was.

While it sucks that none of us can get on to get what we want or do anything with it online - Especially when some games require you to sign into the PSN to access them at all. I cannot help but laugh that Microsoft had a free Xbox Live weekend for Easter too, just such awful timing for Sony.

So what is all behind this? Most sources lead to hackers finding a way to be accepted into a developer accounts that had full access to everything. Apparently it was as easy as a four step process (searches on Google will give you all that people did right on the first page) that required Sony to find a way to completely re-write their tech.

And I just noticed that every time my PlayStation 3 crashes (happens a lot) it asks if I want to send the information to Sony as to how to fix it... You know they are lying about that feature now.

I don't know if I have ever played a PS3 game online, and I have 4 machines hooked up to the TV that can run Netflix, so it has not been any kind of hardship for me.  Mostly I use PSN for downloading PSP games.

I'm not really worried. I mostly use the PSN to download the occasional game or watch Netflix, so I'm not one of those people who use online multiplayer all the time.

I don't think I've played any multiplayer on PSN, but it's been really annoying not being able to get on to check out demos and the like.

Some games require an online connection, stuff like Warhawk is obvious, but some of Capcom's downloadable releases require connection to the network at all times.

I am not effected by it either really, but the fact that no timeframe has been given is really not helpful at all. Sony themselves have declined to comment at all too, if I was really into the service I think I would be pissed.

I hope it comes back before Virtua Tennis 4 is out. I can see myself wasting so many hours on that online.

I'm pretty bummed that I can't use netflix on my PS3 (not bummed enough to bother downloading it on my Wii though).

I just really want it back up so I can sync my Portal 2 data with Steam.

I noticed that the slim has one issue with crashing that bothers me... its not really crashing, but its annoying:

When you buy something or download a demo, you click back, back to get to the other menue... it takes 2 minutes to load.... FFFU

Really? I can access Netflix. What I do is when it says to log in I just tell it to, when it tells you it failed to load hit O and Netflix will continue loading, it will do it again, but just rinse and repeat, find your selection in Netflix and select it. Once the show/movie begins to play it will no longer ask you to log in.

Been rewatching the entirey of Cheers on PS3 this way.

Yeah Netflix works. Just keep signing in.

I think the biggest issue with this.. is the misinformation. My brother says most people in his school are saying that PSN is dead forever. Like really?

Sony finally put up a FAQ:
http://us.playstation.com/support/answe ... ?a_id=2356

Some good stuff as to why they are barely telling us. They also said that they sent the mainstream media the information about the attack to inform customers. That is why my Dad's Spanish news station is talking about it...

This was all over the radio yesterday, talk of user's information being compromised and credit card fraud warnings. Very bad press for Sony. Those guys are made of teflon though, it'll probably just slide right off them.

If credit card info is honestly open I am done with Sony, I was done with MS after 3 hardware failures in less than half a year, I will be done with Sony if my CC # was compromised. Some people might call this fanboyism, I call it being an educated consumer. I don't keep buying a car make that produces lemons do I?

If this is the way it plays out from here on out it's PC and Nintendo for me.

I guess you don't have to be done with Sony.

What I have notice is that Sony is always late to get quality software up and everyone doubts them... but usually deliver.
