PSPgo or DSi xl/ll?
« on: February 10, 2010, 12:43:58 pm »
I've saved up a bunch of money to buy a big tv for my birthday but am deciding to wait until 3d tvs are on the Market and reasonably priced instead.

I was going to get an ipad but the more I read about it the more I hate it.

I should probably note that I did have a ds briefly but only played zelda and mario on it.

Which handheld would be better for me, I prefer quick action games or retro styled games.
Which has better sega support?

Is it likely they will both be replaced with the ds2 and psp2 this year?

With the DSi/XL there are a ton of 2d action games (Contra 4, Metal Slug 7, Mega Man ZX, etc...), plus Retro Game Challenge, and Space Invaders Extreme for the retro side of things.  SEGA's got the Sonic Rush series, Sonic Chronicles, The Rub Rabbit's series, Sands of Destruction, and Phantasy Star 0 as games that jump to mind immediately.

I just picked up the PSPGo last year. Mainly on the strenght of Valkyria Chronicles 2 alone.  Crush and Sonic Rivals/Sonic Rivals 2 are solid SEGA games for the platform.  I tend to use it a lot as a multimedia device, but for other good games that might interest you, there's:
Prinny: Can I Really Be The Hero? - Very solid 2D action platformer, with tons of humour.
2.5D remakes of titles like Mega Man X, Mega Man, and Castlevania: Rondo Of Blood (which includes the original versions of Rondo+Symphony of the Night)
MGS: Peace Walker comes out this year too.

I really wouldn't recommend a PSP go until a price drop.
Rumor is Sony is going to be relaunching it soon, and probably with a new price.
Also a rumor of PSP 4000 coming down the pipeline.

The PSPGo is pretty expensive at the moment. Really solid device though.

Thanks guys you've both been really helpful, I still can't make a decision one way or another.

hmm, I know I can link up my ps3 with the psp go and play some games like resistance with a ps3 pad.

I know the dsi is massive but it's also brown, which means it is pretty groovy.

No problem.

If you do have a PS3, then the connectivity is another plus. Remote play is a pretty sweet feature. I've sat around on my breaks at school watching tv shows streamed from the PS3 hard drive.

The DS has been lacking in new releases. If you owned one sometime in its lifetime I advise against getting it. I really don't think it's worth it. The PSP isn't worth the money and the PSPgo is just a joke.

Save your money or get a DS.

I'm pretty sure that's the only way I'll ever get around to beating Final Fantasy VIII.

You're hands down my biggest competition for trophy count as far as people on my friends list. Good job sir.

I got pretty into that game. I think I've clocked around 50 hours in it.
For a racing game (hell, any game), that's pretty rare for me.

DS XL  is awesome. The most awesome way to play Mario Kart.

PSPgo is stupid. I hate DL only. Imagine yourself in 5/6 years wanting to get a game and simply can't cause the service isn't there anymore.

The PSP3000 on the other hand is magical.

I personally wouldn't buy a new PSP, I have a feeling that Sony will be showing off a PSP2 very soon, especially since low sales, PSP-Go bomb and the fact that PSP-3000 is doing "shit" outside of Japan.  :|
