SEGA in the media. Version 2.0
« on: March 04, 2010, 09:29:44 pm »
I know there was a topic like this on SEGA Nerds, but I feel like bringing it back since I just saw something SEGA-related grace my TV screen. :P

I was just watching "Kitchen Nightmares" tonight, and during the commercial break there was a Hyundai commercial showing some kid playing Crazy Taxi! And it was featured pretty heavily too, which is why it's so surprising! (completely zoomed in on the game!)

Anyway, list other recent SEGA cameos you've seen in TV shows/movies/commercials here.

We should dig up all the old stuff we had and make a mega list again. Fuck, I forgot about it.

Here are ones I remember from the old thread (from the top of my head):

Film:
Punch Drunk Love - Barry Egan has a Dreamcast in his apartment
Terminator 2  - After Burner II unit appears in the arcade scene
Black Mask - The games Tracy plays on the Sega Saturn while locked inside Black Mask's apartment are "Virtua Fighter 2" and "X-men: Children of the Atom."
Rumble in the Bronx - Jackie Chan gives wheelchair kid a Game Gear (without a cartridge and yet it plays games! Jackie modded it!)
Jurassic Park: The Lost World - Jeff Goldblum's daughter plays a Game Gear (they call it a Sega)
Surf Ninjas - One of the lead characters is shown playing the Surf Ninjas video game on a Sega Game Gear
Josie and the Pussycats - Sega and Space Channel 5 adverts are all over the place, this was due to Archie Comics connection with Sega and their Sonic series
Suburban Commando - After Burner is incorrectly misrepreseted as some sort of game with kings or wizards or aliens or some shit. Check the Nostalgia Critic's rant in his video review

Television
X-Files: "D.P.O." - Virtua Fighter and Sonic the Hedgehog can be seen/heard in the arcade
The Drew Carey Show - Drew has a Sega Saturn on top his TV for much of the series

Music Videos:
No Doubt - Hella Good - JSRF footage features

Just got back from seeing Iron Man 2 for the second time.
Near the beginning there's a monitor in the background that has the SEGA logo on the bottom along with a couple other companies like Kodak.

Guess Sega Studios San Francisco's work was good for something.

A programmer from Sega was on Total Wipeout (BBC one) this Saturday. At one point Richard Hammond commentated "As this guy's company once said 'to be this good take ages'." :P

I've been wanting to make a video feature collecting all the Sega media references into one YouTube vid.

I watched it on iplayer just as I posted that, it's still up on there if you wanna catch it. I think I misheard at the beginning though: the guy was a Sega marketing man rather than a programmer. He did mange to make it to the final though, so he'll be in this Saturdays episode too (the final...final).

Here is that commercial I mentioned in the first post:

Really recent commercial too. Which is why it's so surprising.
