Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII
« on: September 03, 2012, 04:10:56 pm »
Not exactly the idea I had for Final Fantasy XIII-3, since the 2nd game ended on a cliffhanger ending, but this appears to be a different sequel of sorts.

First of all, only Lightning is playable. You wander through various locations and you have basically save the world in 13 days (game time, that is), you have the option to rewind time, ala Zelda: Majora's Mask.

Apparentely it takes place hundreds of years after the events in FF XIII-2... So I'm curious if they actually acknowledge or address what happened.

Sounds to me like they're going to be trying to do an open world-type of game, which is interesting, though I wish they would have just developed it as a new IP instead of trying to shoehorn it into such a forgettable universe/characters. (And don't get me wrong, I liked FF13...did it deserve sequels? No way.)

The time thing is just a bad idea, though, since the whole fun of this game should be the ability to explore at your own pace.....sounds like the timer will just get in the way of that.

It seems pretty interesting so far.

I'm mostly looking forward to some closure after the ending of FF XIII-2.
Can't wait to play as Lightning again though :).
