Saw the screenshots and the teaser... I guess it's not going to be a Strategy RPG? This seems like a more traditional JRPG.

That's the part that really cements this as a whole completely different beast from Valkyria Chronicles, which is okay since it's supposed to be a spinoff of sorts. Although we all know Sega would replace Chronicles over this forever as soon as they see the sales are better. And that's the part that frigthens me because between this and Chronicles, I'm 100% sure that I would just want a Chronicles games that builds up on the first one in every aspect, while disregarding the sequels.

Anyways, the graphics looks pretty good, although the character models are pretty iffy. Sucks that Raita isn't the character designer, that porn artists was half the reason why the characters looked so charming in the first place. By which I mean the cuties with the rural backgrounds.

The fact that they are giving the first game a retail release in Japan makes me not fear that they are doing away with the SRPG element of the series. Even if V:AR doesn't have SRPG elements, I'm not fearing it is the end of that aspect of the series.

And it seems like they never will . SEGA Japan should be allowing its own In-House teams learn and get used to next gen consoles, not pay Media Vision (whom seem to really nice tech)

But Yakuza 6 is a PS4 exclusive...

But I have to say it before anyone else does: this looks like a ps3 game.

That's the art style VC has. Nothing to do with looking like a PS3 game.

Valkyria Chronicles 1 looks like a PS3 game... This doesn't. I will agree they are using really dated technique for that grass, which is a pet peeve of mine, but otherwise it looks solid.

It's certainly improved from VC1, there's no question there.

But it doesn't even look as good as some of the high end ps3 games, much less a ps4 game.  I know a lot of this has to do with the art direction but this amount of detail on the characters, the textures, and lighting all could have easily been accomplished on ps3.  Obviously, we'll have to wait and see but hopefully there will be a silky smooth frame rate and tons of stuff happening on screen to justify the simple looking visuals.

Well one would hope given that VC was a 2008 game. Game I must say looks really nice but it seems clear on the graphic and development front SEGA isn't pushing the boat out  (compared to the original )and doing it on the cheap. But I guess it's nice to see a new entry in the Val series

Glad to hear it. I'm not saying realistic graphics don't interest me as such - it just depends on what they're going for, that's all. Take Shenmue for example...That's a game that needs the art to look realistic for the tone and type of experience Yu Suzuki wanted.

I never got why people are so adamant about how high a game's graphics should be. If the game at least looks fine, that should be it, right? Why give a crap if a game doesn't look "next-gen" enough? I feel like we're back in 2008 over here.

But yeah no, the graphics don't bother me at all. It looks interesting but I'm hesitant to give any Valkyria game a try simply for their genre.
