The Original Version Of Columns For The HP-UX Has Just Been Found

Most people will probably know of Columns from Sega's versions of the game — which have since been reissued across various compilations and mini consoles — but the title actually has an interesting history that predates those releases.
It was originally designed by Jay Geersten for the HP-UX operating system while working at Hewlett Packard in 1989, who later gave his source code to various other developers to produce additional versions for MS-DOS, Atari ST, Macintosh, and Windows 3.x.
In the past, Geersten's original HP-UX version of the game was considered to be lost media, but yesterday, the video game collector @TrevgauntletNeu announced that they had found the original title and had managed to get it working in MAME. They've since shared ...

But what pisses me off is that he could of! If he had more than one game, new characters could've been introduced and expanded upon.

For example, some of the chharacters from the first game could be expanded upon, such as Planet Flora's elder or Ristars parents.

Yes, unfortunately the sales weren't that good since it has to compete not just with 16-bit games such as Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and Donkey Kong Country 2 but also with many 32-bit games such as ...







If only it was released three years earlier.

Paramount+ does not typically release information on the number of viewers for its titles.
“Knuckles” and “Special Ops: Lioness” were the only exception that I could recall so I guess they must be happy with the results.

I've seen some of the TIkTok animations. All I would ask from it is if they released widescreen versions of the videos for YouTube than just keep them on TikTok. I don't see how hard that would be.

It wouldn't be hard but now that Youtube has youtube shorts / reels that has smartphone format it'd be faster to just put it as it is.

Sonic Speed Battle? I presume it's a physical product.

Unless you're on about my Sonic RPBG then no, I don't see the point in wasting cardboard on a physical copy only I can play. I'm making it for Tabletop Sim.

I see. I once had Sonic monopoly. Was that counted a tabletop game or not?

Kirby also has many other interesting characters such as Meta Knight, Bandana Waddle Dee, and King Dedede.
Ristar doesn't have any memorable one other than himself.
May be if the game has a sequel it could introduce more characters but sadly there was none.

May be the limitation of budget for CGI are the reason why they're mostly concentrating on characters other than Knuckles.
Cartoon and animated series wouldn't have that problem.

It is regarded the most likely reason.

You have to include Shadow in the name. The game was the main title for "The Year of the Shadow" and also made to promote Shadow to promote the third movie.

Blame Free Riders. Its low sales ended this franchise's life.

I really don't see why one bad apple spoils the barrel. Why can't Sonic Team just try again but don't use Kinect controls this time?
