This is why movie producers should make contracts for actors to cover more than one film per contract.

Good luck to Paramount trying to replace him. I've seen popular TV series end just because they had to change the actor of a main role to someone else.
Unless Robotnik is the kind of Doctor from Gallifrey, I doubt even Paramount could pull off replacing Jim Carrey.
EDIT: Wait a minute... is this an April Fools? 'cus I'll admit, you got me good.

I wish it was an April Fools, but even though the interview was uploaded in April 01, it's a recorded interview that's happened before that :

Jim Carrey Says He's 'Retiring': 'I've Done Enough'

But he still could be back just for Sonic 3 if the studio's willing to fulfil his wish :

Jim Carrey Once Shared He Wanted to Destroy Hollywood

Quote
“My plan was not to join Hollywood, it was to destroy it.
Like, take a gigantic sledgehammer to the leading man and to all the seriousness,” he said in the same interview with Hollywood Reporter.
Given his popularity during the peak of his career, it’s arguable that Carrey achieved just that.

It's nice to know that while he wants to retire from the cinema he still wants to finish up the movie series he's devoted to. Jim Carrey made his place with the Sonic franchise a a whole, it be a pity he drops from it.

Completely understandable really, given how corrupt it was. But not even he could take down the regime.

Indeed but he rarely did a sequel (Only Ace Ventura, Dumb & Dumber, and Sonic the Hedgehog), let alone a second sequel.
Jim Carrey had very little interest in reprising his role as Ace Ventura in the sequel back then.
He even spent a lot of time away from the movie production due to "sick leave".
The only reason he agreed to make the film is because of a contractual obligation to do so.
He hated to "impersonate his past self character".
Same character in the sequel had to be different, and we know how different Eggman is in Sonic 2 compared to Sonic 1.

Morgan Creek Entertainment has attempted to persuade Carrey to make more Ace Ventura movies, to which he declined.
That's why now Evan Peters is the one who's going to be Ace Ventura.

It's an almost impossible task. One Man Against the World.

James Marsden and Ben Schwartz Reveal Video Game Movies They Want to See

Quote
Marsden suggested Frogger, which prompted Schwartz to throw his name in the hat to be cast as the frog.
Ironically, there is already a Frogger TV series on Peacock.
Schwartz also off-handedly mentioned the text adventure game Zork, which has no visuals of any kind beyond words on the screen, but quickly realized that actually does have some potential for a film.

It was awesome! Better than the last movie. And I realy did not expect that mid-credit teaser!

Just won't be the same. But I can sort of see why Jim Carrey would avoid sticking with his characters for too long. Jim Carrey is more than just a silly-man actor, he's been in mature roles, dramatic roles and even scary roles at times. He probably avoids Ace Ventura and The MAst because he just doesn't want to be type-cast when he has a whole range of personas to act.

It is. But people are becoming more aware how shoddy and corrupt Hollywood are. And while China is no better with their strict media rules, at least we are slowly getting an alternative to Hollywood for our cinema.

How would one make a movie on Frogger? What would it even be about? Just a frog crossing the road.

Scenes in Hawaii were also funny even if it just starring the human companies.

The Mask 2 / Son of the Mask while it was kinda funny was disappointing, so may be his decision was right.

Kinda like Muppet Show movies may be?

But story about crossing road had been done by Pink Panther on "Think Before You Pink" before and I don't think any could top that :

Lee Majdoub on playing Agent Stone in 'Sonic the Hedgehog 2' - Interview

Quote
Lee Majdoub reprises his role as Agent Stone, the sidekick of Jim Carrey’s character, in Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
He talks about filming in British Columbia, what he liked best about the stunt his character does in the sequel and how hard it is to keep a straight face when Jim Carrey goes off script.

I thought the hawaiian scenes dragged on a bit and could of had less of them to have more of a development between Sonic and Tails. I also thought how GUN was introduced was kinda pitiful, especially with Rachel agreeing the name "GUN" was bad. Because it felt more likie an undercover SWAT team than a proper government agency as depicted in the games, perhaps would of been more believable if Walter introduced the team as "Virtua Cops" which would of been more believable.
The Mask 2 / Son of the Mask while it was kinda funny was disappointing, so may be his decision was right.
The Mask 2 as mostly it's own thing though and sort of ended up bad on it's own merits. Perhaps Carrey's inclusion to a sequel would of offered an entirely new story but I doubt it. But then again, why Son of the Mask and not a movie adaption of the comic "The Mask Returns"? Albeit less violent and bloody.

I dunno, I haven't seen every Muppet movie out there. Sort of lost interest in them after Treasure Island and Christmas Carol.

Could they make that concept of an episode longer than an hour though? I dunno.

I guess if I made a Frogger movie, it would be an adventure journey movie. Could be about a frog who's living peacefully in a pond until one day his pond was filled in with concrete and the lands dug up by diggers. He escapes but gets knocked out, only to wake up and see a busy intersection paved over his pond. Now he must make it not only across the intersection, but the big city in order to find a new home for himself. All the while meeting a colourful cast of characters along the way. Maybe Frogger meets a family of turtles who are under the same prediciment as he is in. I'm imagining it similar to such movies as The Brave Little Toaster or An American Tale where a small protagonist loose their life of simple pleasures and have to overcome odds and urban hazards to make it to a more pleasing destination.

This is why Paramount should've aimed for SEGA Cinematic Universe instead of Sonic Cinematic Universe.
But may be guess SEGA wouldn't let them so they just use what they could. Who knows.

Director doesn't want to stick to the original comic book material wasn't a new thing.
Lot of examples of these and hopefully they learned the lessons.

Yes, that's more interesting. Also in Frogger 3D (3DS), there are many frogs where the protagonist frog can ride on to help him on the journey. A big giant frog, a frog that could emit light, a frog that could jump very far (but had trouble to make short jump), etc. They could make a cast of those many frogs as characters like on Angry Bird movie so the protagonist wasn't the only frog in the movie.

Idris Elba and Jim Carrey on Elba's 'Sexy' Knuckles Voice for 'Sonic The Hedgehog 2'

Quote
"Idris makes the coffee table seem sexier, you know, he puts his feet up on it and suddenly it's like, 'damn that coffee table is fire,'" Carey joked. "The guy has just got it going on."
On a more serious note, Carrey said he's glad Elba "joined the gang."
