Yakuza 3
« on: March 09, 2010, 11:16:23 pm »
My pre-order is coming in tomorrow.  I managed to time it so I just completed Yakuza 2 over this past weekend (well, by "completed" I mean I finished the main storyline, and most of the side missions... percentage-wise I was more along the lines of about 50% through all the collecting, eating, drinking, etc.).   The reviews are coming in looking good.

I'm... I'm blissful.  I can't wait to play through Kazuma's uneventful retirement by the beach, and not have to worry about any more yakuza conflicts.  30 hours of relaxing with the kids and putting all that crimeworld stuff to rest for good, here I come!

I sure hope that my UFO Catcher Sim plus Yakuza game comes in tomorrow, too. ^__^

I went to pick up my pre-order yesterday, but they said that it wasn't there yet. I'm super busy with school and work for the next few days, so I won't be able to pick it up for a little while.
On top of that, I just started Bayonetta a couple of days ago, so I think I'll probably finish that off before I get into Yakuza.

Has there been rumblings of Yakuza 4 making its way to the US? I guess sales of 3 will give us an answer, but having made the commitment to bring english speaking folks part 3 opens the doors to 4.

Also, are 1&2 on PSN?

Sega said recently that if you want Yakuza 4, buy Yakuza 3.

I'm still deciding if I should get it right now, I would like to get a PS3 eventually, and theres games  Iwant for it, but... it's still kinda pricey.

Yeah, as it stands I could never afford another console right now, and a deciding factor on getting a PS3 would be the promise of an english Yakuza 4. So it's sort of a catch-22: I can't afford Yakuza 3, but wouldn't really care to play it unless the rest of the series sees an english release. Beyond Yakuza there is no real PS3 Sega game calling my name. The Last Guardian looks awesome, but I still need to play Shadow of Colossus.

I'll probably buy a new PS2 (my current one has a faulty video out) and complete Yakuza 1&2 plus Shadow of Colossus. Then, probably next Christmas, buy a PS3 on the cheap.

Not to sound like a broken record, but I hate the fact that the PS3 does not play PS2 games.

Yeah the no BC annoyed me as well, but considering the PS2 slim is cheaper than an Xbox 360 game (or it was when I bought it), I just got one of those instead.

Maybe the idiots should not expect us to buy hundreds of dollars (or in your case probably a thousand) on all their new games all at once. There is no way normal people can buy all the stuff they are releasing right now.

I got my copy today, and played through the first couple of chapters.

I was quite surprised to see how much up-front storyline there is. I thought that the game would keep a good ratio of gameplay to cutscenes and dialogue, but nope. It was around 10% gameplay, and 90% cutscenes and dialogue. Hopefully that ratio will even out as I get deeper into the game.

The games start off very cutscene-heavy to set everything up, I noticed that on Yakuza 2 especially.

Don't worry, it gets much more intense and gameplay heavy as you go.

The game is just setting up and recapping the events from the previous games as well as putting in motion the storyline. It allows much more freedom later on.

That's reassuring to hear, guys. ^^ Not to say that watching the cut scenes was so bad. Since I (now regretfully) did not play the first two games, it helped to inform me on who these characters are and what they are like.

Forgot about this...

*looks into deleting stuff*. Well I can delete the Just Cause demo and the PSP demos I have yet to install on the PSP when I'm ready.
