Creative Assembly hiring for Alien “blockbuster” – Vaizey

Ed Vaizey, the British Minister for Culture, Communications and Creative Industries, has seemingly just confirmed that Sega studio Creative Assembly is creating a “blockbuster” title based on Alien. The information based on the visit Vaizey mentions in his tweet is under embargo until 2.00pm BST today. ‘Bargo bustin’ stretches all the way to the top, you know. Watch for more later.

....What a disappointment. I REALLY hope this isn't the high budget project that was mentioned.   :x

Not a fan of the Alien series?

I'm a mild fan so consider me interested, I'm sure Ryan will probably freak out when he returns from France most likely though.

Also announced that it will not be present at this year's E3, so the game still has a long way to go, this is probably the big title Hayes was talking about when he said SEGA had it coming out in 2012.

The franchise has a lot of incredible potential I think, but usually it is wasted on basic FPS' where you just have to not touch their blood.

If it is based around more of the escaping/studying on the creature, I think that would be really cool. Also would be awesome if there was only one alien, just like the first movie. I always thought that when there were tons of the aliens that it was not scary at all, just more action packed.

Every game that The Creative Assembly have made I either like a lot or can appreciate an extreme amount. I am not pushing this game aside just because games based on the Alien franchise are done to death. People keep returning to them because they are conceptually one of the most awesome fictional creatures of all time.

Isn't Gearbox supposedly still working on their Alien RPG for SEGA as well?

No, Aliens RPG is long gone. Gearbox is working on Aliens: Colonial Marines. SEGA is in a three game Aliens deal with Fox, so after AVP, there's this and CM to go.

Oh yeah, I remember now, thank you for clarifying.  I never could imagine what an Alien RPG could possibly be like.  Well, here's hoping for some good games.  Seems like this deal was announced ages ago and we've seen very little other than AVP.

Actually Sega have the license for a number of years, quite a long time if I remember correctly, they can make as many games as they like in this time.

I'm quite sure GearBox are STILL working on Colonial Marines, Rebellion are probably making Alien vs Predator 2... Since it sold a lot.

Anyway...

This is VERY bitter sweet for me... I love creative assembly, have since the very first TW game, one of the best British developers out there. What ever they make I'm sure it'll be awesome.

I also love the Alien series... AlienS is easily one of my favourite sci-fi movies of all time and the design of the Alien and of the drop ships are iconic and have been copied countless times in countless games.

That said I was really hoping for some kind of spiritual sequal to Viking, which I really enjoyed despite its short commings and I think it had so much potential to be awesome.

Oh well, I can't say I mind... Alien is awesome.

Alien game to be a Tripple-A, Award Winning, Dead Space-like game?

Quote
Sega has confirmed to CVG that Total War studio Creative Assembly IS making a new Alien game - and that it hopes the title will be a "peer to Dead Space 2".

Neither the studio or publisher would be drawn on confirming a genre for the game, and wouldn't say if it was a strategy title - the category Creative Assembly is best known for.

However, CA did confirm to CVG that the game would be making its way to "console", but didn't specify formats.

Creative director Mike Simpson said that he'd been given the directive to win awards by Sega, but wasn't overly pressured because "we like winning awards". Class in a glass.

"This is very much a triple-A project," Sega West boss Mike Hayes added. "We want this to be a peer to the likes of Dead Space 2."

CA is now hiring to ramp up production on the title, and wants to take its staff from 160 people to 200 in a matter of months. The studio is famed for its multi-award winning Total War series on PC.

Meanwhile, Sega is thought to be readying another Alien title in Alien: Colonial Marines, which is being developed by Duke Nukem Forever studio Gearbox in the US. We expect to see more on that one at E3 next month.

Government Minister Ed Vaizey let slip that CA was working on an Alien game earlier today on his Twitter account.
