Future of SEGA outside videogames
« on: May 14, 2014, 03:32:14 pm »
Hi, this new topic basically is about how could be the future of SEGA outside the videogame industry, i know this could be weird but lets talk about it. First i want to clear that i am not saying that SEGA should stop doing videogames and focusign on something else (Of couse not ;) ), this topic came because in these years and in the future to come, SEGA-Sammy is losign power (and money) in all their divisions, except the one that make videogames ("The consumer division") and after the bought of Relic and Index last year is clear that the Holding want to be relevant on this market. I am glad of that, but the reality is (if you read the FY Presentation 2014) that the Segment that develop arcades plan to lose 1.7 BY this year, the segment that manage these arcades plan to lose 0.6, and the Pachinko and Pachislot Division have a forecast much less prominent that the one that used to have years ago. I know is not an extreme situacion, and is not the end of wherever thing, but seeing this results the Holding plan to expand to others business and they are going to managements resources to the Resort field (Build and manage Resorts) and casino field (Create casino machines and manage casinos). This take me to the point of this topic, How do you think this can affect the future of SEGA?, Do you think that the end of arcades is near because of mobile gaming and stuff? Do you think this projects are good ideas and SEGA can win a lot of money with them? Would you like to see a casino-Virtual fighter manchine XD?. Let me Know in the comments.

Eh? SEGA Sammy are doing fine from what Aki's reports have stated (sure, they're making losses here and there, but their overall market is positive).

Personally, I would love to see SEGA focus more in their Merchandise Segment, but it sadly makes hardly any money there.

Yes dont worry about their "health" i am saying that they will enter into new markets and asking what do you guys think about that. Speking about Cash reserves they have a huge "bed".
Abou they marketing deparment they will spend more than 14.0 BY, and that is only the consumer division (Videogames) so in that case this will be a good year.

Well, maybe three generations or so from now maybe "video games" will not exist as we know them.

Anyway, perhaps it depends on what sort of strength they have from the resorts they own

So SEGA to compete in QoL against Nintendo?
