Penumbra and Amnesia thread of the ultimate horror!!
« on: September 01, 2010, 02:49:17 pm »
Penumbra is a survival horror series on the PC , to put it simply, its the scariest game I ever played in my life! especially the second part!

What makes it more interesting is that the game is based around physics, I'll let the videos speak instead!

There are Penumbra: Overture (First Game)  and Penumbra: Black Plague (The Sequel) all are great, but in Black Plague, they removed your weapons so its all about survival now.

You can pick them all in steam for around 10 dollars, really if you have a decent PC, you HAVE to pick them up, great gameplay, great horror, great story, its truly one of the PC's underrated games!

The game's spirtual successor is coming in a few days, its called Amnesia: The Dark Descent
It's exactly like Penumbra, but instead of modern urbex environments, you are thrown in a medieval castle!

Ohh, this sounds really cool!

Do they have hard copies as well? I haven't bought anything from Steam in ages, and I try to avoid it when possible. I might take a squiz at eBay!

These do look very cool indeed, but I think I rather watch someone play this instead of me doing it. I think it would frustrate me a lot.

Cool find.

I lost intrest when you had to open the Fuse Box, with a rock. The whole back and forth camera movement gave me a head ache, a bad one.

I don't like First Person games in general, but when you can't even the hand of the character, when S/He moves object, that is too much.

Really? I mean, you're not going to be swinging rocks all the time in the game, this is just a puzzle that you won't see like it except 3 or 4 times in the whole series.

Rendered hand is too much for an indie developer like Frictional Games, you  can pick up nearly everything in the game, so the hand must be well animated and modeled or else it will be a mess.

I agree. Running around in an adventure game drives me nuts. Sorry, but I don't have time to run to one end of level only to find out I was to somehow guess that I was actually supposed to be at the other end. Bleh.
I did see the majority of the gameplay for the first game, though, and it does look cool. I wasn't scared, though. Clock Tower is still the scariest game out there, imo :P

If you're a survival/horror game nut you might want to give this site a look:
http://www.dreamdawn.com/sh/index.php

It lists some very obscure titles that are pretty interesting. Hell Night (which was actually released in the UK) looks like a reason enough for me to import a UK PlayStation system.
