Sega Sammy profits double for the year
« on: May 13, 2011, 12:28:56 pm »
Says Edge:

Quote
The drastic upshift is partly attributed to titles Sonic Colors, which sold 2.1 million units), and Iron Man 2 which sold 1.5 million. Vanquish also performed well, reaching 830,000 copies sold while Shogun2: Total War, which was released only weeks prior to the end of the financial year, saw sales of 600,000 copies.

Looks like Vanquish did better than I thought.  Iron Man cashed in nicely, but at a cost of reputation of quality...

And quoth Gamasutra:

Quote
The group -- which also has arcade and pachinko divisions -- revealed that 7.8 million games were shipped in the U.S., 8.2 million copies in Europe and 2.6 million copies in Japan and other regions, for a total of 18.7 million copies. These figures fell below the performance level of the previous fiscal year.

It was also noted that, due to constraints of the aftermath of the Great East Japan Earthquake, sales at Sega amusement centers were down to 99.3 percent compared to the previous fiscal year.

However, profits saw a huge increase, up 104.8 percent to ¥41.5 billion ($515.5 million), compared to ¥20.3 billion ($252.2 million) last fiscal year. The hike came from factors including royalties from patents and reversal of subscription rights to shares.

For the fiscal year ended March 31, 2011, the company saw revenue rise by 3.1 percent to ¥396.7 billion ($4.9 billion), up from ¥384.7 billion ($4.8 billion) year-over-year.

It goes on to say they expect to sell about 23 million total units next fiscal year, with Mario & Sonic at the Olympics expected to be a top contributor to that figure.

Activision Blizzard profits = $418 million
SEGA Sammy profits = $515.5 million

Therefore

SEGA Sammy > Activision Blizzard

Therefore

Or something.

It's interesting what they choose to highlight, and not highlight.  I would think they would point out the success of Ryu Ga Gotoku 4 as that was the top selling PS3 title in Japan last year.

It's probably because Yakuza 4 was out in the fiscal year of 2009 and they already mentioned the bulk of it's sales then.

20 SKUs planned for the 3DS this year!
if we count 2 for Mario&Sonic , 2 for CRUSH3D , 2 for Captain America and 2 for THOR.
in this case we have 12 more SKUs , so at least there are 4 more titles to be revealed (including sonic)
