cheap common genesis recommendations for new time owner
« on: October 02, 2013, 03:33:33 pm »
I recently have gifted a buddy of mine my spare model 1 genesis because i said that he had interest in procuring one and playing it and in an effort to spread my love for sega to my peers (im in high school so there aint to many people with interest in that around me) i gave him my spare, the hookups, 6 buttton pad, sonic and knuckles, and a copy of sonic spinball. so my question to you is what should i recommend for him to buy as he is coming over from nes to genesis that would make him love sega as much as we do? please respond and have a nice day  ;D

1. Sonic the Hedgehog - That's a must for any first-time owner.
2. Ghostbusters - One of the best action/platformers ever made, and it's gorgeous.
3. Streets of Rage - Like Sonic, it's a must-own. Great fun for 2 players.
4. Virtua Racing - Still a damn good game.
5. Bio Hazard Battle - A challenging, fun and beautifully designed shoot-'em-up.

All are reasonably cheap and VERY common.

Great suggestions.

I would add Sonic 3 since it is the perfect companion piece to Sonic and Knuckles and really should be treated as one longer game. Some think Sonic 2 was the best, so I would add that one too.

I find Streets of Rage 2 to be the best in the series, so I would add that to the list.

1. Gunstar Heroes (platforming shoot'em up) (This one is 2-player co-op)

2. Vectorman (platforming shoot'em up)

3. Phantasy Star 4 (rpg)

Vectorman is pretty sweet. It's very affordable and addictive as sex, drugs and rock & roll. I haven't played the second one yet.

Beware of Phantasy Star 4. I love Phantasy Star, but it ain't cheap.

General Chaos: An excellent, console friendly real time strategy game.

Ristar: Best platformer on the system. A little hard to find, but pretty affordable.

Shinobi 3: An excellent, easy to find action game, best Shinobi game ever produced.

Aladdin and Lion King: A pair of excellent platformers based off of Disney classics.

By the way, I'd recommend eStarland an online retailer of choice:

Might also want to check for local Play N Trades:

This is a pretty good (but not perfect) Genesis resource. Some of the reviews are of questionable quality, but the vast majority of them are pretty reliable:
