Geocaching.
« on: May 07, 2010, 04:48:23 pm »
The other day I was exploring a German bunker from world war 2, there was a giant crack in the floor and of course I had to explore it.

When I looked inside hidden behind some long grass that was sprouting up though the floor was a big plastic box. Thinking I had discovered some guys drug or money stash I was very excited as I hooked it out and had a look inside.

Unfortunately not... Instead when I cracked it open I was met with a piece of paper, a guest book and a bunch of pointless trinkets. The paper explained to me that this was hidden on purpose by some strange, strange people that do this for fun. They then register to a website www.geocaching.com and give GPS coordinates for other like minded strange people to find it.

They encourage you to take a trinket with you and leave something of equal or higher value... Needless to say I took all the good shit and replaced it with shiny rocks i keep in my pocket.

So, interested to see how many weirdo’s did this in my area I looked on their website, typed in my location and it turns out there are 200 of them hidden in my 9 by 5 mile island... Suddenly I had a purpose in life, track down and ransack each and every one of them!

The point of this story? SEE IF THERE ARE ANY IN YOUR AREA!
www.geocaching.com

Here is a video to explain what they do.

My favorite part of the story is that you keep rocks in your pocket.

4 in a 2 mile radius, one in St. Johns River. One I found a odd looking dress there, gave it to my friend and he wore it to school. Odd story? Yes.

True story too, I like have a thing for carrying rocks. It always shocks me that rocks are free so I feel the need to collect them when I see them.

I've heard about this. I think the name is really funny too. It's a fancy word to the act of finding tupperware boxes under rocks.

I suggest we call Sharky's rock thing Rockporting, and we should make a site about it and we should all do it.

Same thing happened to me, there was one at the end of my lane, like a minuite down the road from my house... I must have walked past it thousands of times.

Needless to say I went and ransacked it. Infact there is about 10 in walking distance from my house. Interesting stuff.

What the opera fuck? I just looked up my area code and found thousands of items around me. How has this happened for so long without me knowing?

Weirdest bit is that a lot seem to be done by the same person. A lot of the titles are references to Forrest Gump... For some reason.

My exact reaction, most of the ones around me are done by about 3 or 4 different extremeist wackos too.

I was thinking about tracking them down and taking a dump in all of them. =D

I don't get why Sharky is such a dick about this. It's probably some primary school kids having fun or doing it for a school thing.

Would be funny if someone tore up your garden and killed your chickens then posted on a forum about how mad funny it was that they killed some losers plants.

Having said that, I found one close to my house and they used the word 'Muggle' in the description a few times, so... I don't feel as sorry for them as  I once did.

Psst, mademan... I'm joking about ransaking and pooping in them.
In fact I've gone and found about 4 of them now (in walking distance) and left money in them.

I'm planning on putting one outside my house so I can catch people in the act from my window.

Edit: They're still all loser wackos.
