Think like Coruscant from Star Wars. This is a concept which is kind of fascinating to me, especially the idea of the vertical city, whether or not it's giant and continent-spanning. I'm currently working my way through the re-released Chung Kuo series by David Wingrove, which I am very much enjoying.
