PlaySega Joypad
« on: December 26, 2010, 07:11:10 pm »
Barry, I know you got one of these from what I've seen on othersites maybe You could answer this...
I'm considering signing up for PlaySega.com, It's nice to support the publishers rather than doing what I'm currently doing to play Genesis games which is via Emulator for the Dreamcast.

This Joypad you get for free from a three month+ membership.
It's USB from what I saw.
Can I use it for anything a normal gamepad could be used on?
Or is it exclusive for the site?

I think it can be used for other games, however it is quite cheaply made. Not as good as the classic Saturn pad.

If it's USB it's probably a generic USB controller.  It'd likely work on PC, Mac and even PS3 (The PS3 supports generic USB controllers)

Wasn't USB gamepad support removed in a recent PS3 update?  In which case these wouldn't work there.

Everything but the shoulder buttons are just like a Saturn pad, from what I've experienced. Shoulder buttons don't have that light mouse click, it's more of a hard click but still totally fine. From what I hear, it works just as any other USB controller would, so you can find a variety of uses for it: playsega, emulators, etc. I recommend it! It's an official SEGA piece of hardware, which is rare these days, and you're giving a little cash to SEGA. Win, win!

I don't want to sound like a negative nancy, but the only reason to sign up for PlaySEGA is for the joypad and to play whatever content they have until you get tired of it.

They haven't updated the site in ages. They actually gave me my money back because they put me auto-renew without telling me (when PlaySEGA VIP first came up there was nothing about auto-renewal.). I think the fact that they actually gave me my money back means they know it's not worth charging for.
